Sony's newest State of Play presentation gave us a glimpse at some third-party games of varying quality, Death Stranding's PS5 port, a sequel to one of PSVR's most notable adventures, and so on. We also got a deep dive into Arkane's upcoming PS5 console-exclusive Deathloop, and it looks amazing. With its Dishonored roots shining through, Deathloop is like Returnal meets Hitman. Let's chat about that, the rest of the State of Play slate, and all of the week's other news, too. Speaking of Returnal, Housemarque apparently had other suitors before Sony secured the team, Ubisoft is making some major, series-altering changes to Assassin's Creed, Electronic Arts' DICE LA has a new name, RoboCop and Dan Houser are both making video game comebacks, and much more. To add clarification/ a correction for the Titanfall Message in Apex event. TF1 was released on steam in an unplayable state because of internal server hacks and DDoS attacks. TF1 is an online only game, so to release it when it is already broken, while knowing it is broken, is horrible. The DDoS attacks are now occuring in TF2 as well and this has been for months. Respawn/EA have the resources to the fix the issue. It is complicated and will be costly, because it is essentially a security vulnerability within the servers but then why are the games still for sale? The hacker/s can target specific players based of their IP address which no external actor should be able to see/do, period. It is ridiculous.

Deathloop looked alright but I'm not really that hyped to play it. Best part was the bantering of the characters. The gameplay kinda looks like it could get a little boring and repetitive. Honestly FIST looked WAY better. Also are we gonna make fun of Microsoft the way we did sony when MLB the show went to gamepass? That game seemed so irrelevant , but people really leaned into a sony studio being on xbox. Are we gonna do the same when a better game from a Microsoft studio is now EXCLUSIVE to ps5 lol. Its actually pretty hilarious Microsoft spends 7.5 billion for bethesda and the first thing that bears any significant fruit is exclusive to sony while xbox still currently has no 1st party exclusives out.

It hurts my soul to hear y’all shitting on Mortal Kombat. To say that street fighter (whose two main characters are guys in karate suits) has better characters is bad enough, but to talk down on mk characters for being too 90s while at the same time ignoring that injustice is just a game full of lame ass super heroes in tights is unacceptable.

I wanna say that I agree with Dustin’s take on Xcloud. I dived into it on my phone, I have a really fast WiFi and it ran really bad. It started out ok then just lagged so bad. I also dived into Stadia to compare and it ran extremely well. Stadia’s technology is there, I think their problem is their ecosystem. Game versions are all over the place and the U.I. Is really bad.

Also I much prefer the DualShock 4, and always use it when I can for backwards compatible games, or on PC (and even on Xbox with an adapter). I only use the dualsense when I have to, and it also tires out my thumbs more.

Not to minimize Dustins XCloud experience, however I’ve gotta say that mine has been quite the opposite. Whether iPhone, iPad or laptop, XCloud is a very nice bonus.

Personally, outside of Ryu, Ken, and Chung-Li, I much prefer the MK cast of characters. Also, I still prefer the DualShock 4 over the DualSense. The only parts of the DualSense I prefer are the bumpers, the sticks, and the rumble. It’s interesting that Chris said he likes that they went the Xbox route by making it bigger when Xbox actually made their controller smaller for the Series edition, which I’d argue is now my favorite game controller of all-time.

Would love to hear what they think of Rockstar (if possible) or what their experience was in writing GTA and Red Dead, and what a GTA would look like if it came out with today’s political climate. Concerning the discussion on influencers’ trophies/gamer score, it seems everyone gets push back on lighthearted critiques of Chris’ trophy list for exclusives lol he plays all exclusives in two bursts…at launch, and then right before the spoilercast is to air lol

Anyone else notice issues listening to some recent SS episodes on Spotify? The audio skips around for me a lot starting around the 57:00 mark, and it's totally unlistenable. Haven't had this issue with any other podcast/music on Spotify.

We've not heard this problem, no. People sometimes have spotty audio on various podcast services, but as it's not something everyone is experiencing with the product as a whole or just with a particular episode, it's almost certainly on the user's end, or that of the particular service.

Totally disappointed with the new direction of Assassins Creed. I love just getting these games and having a great 40+ hour single player experience every 2 to 3 years then never touching it again. Who are these maniacs who play these games perpetually? Very disappointed. I don't want some GTA online shit in my single player games.

Small grammar note: the way you're using the term "mechanic" is still using it as a noun. When you say "X is a gameplay mechanic of Returnal", the word "mechanic" is still a noun. It's the object of the sentence, the word "gameplay" is the adjective because it describes the mechanic. "Returnal" is another noun, and is the object of the prepositional phrase "of Returnal". The dictionary entry you read is probably misleading -- if you look at the example sentences provided on Merriam Webster, it gives "The company's mechanic shop...", where "mechanic" is describing "shop". It can be used as an adjective, but the noun/adjective difference has nothing to do with the definition difference you guys were discussing between the occupation and gameplay element, which are both examples of the noun version of the word. I am starting to realize it seems less based on your internet speed and more on your physical location. My internet at my condo is not very good but I have almost no lag problems whatsoever even with using wifi and 4G LTE, same with many of my local friends i have talked to about it. But it other areas, even with gigabit and 5g ultrawide it is basically unplayable.

On using the DualShock 4 or any other favourite PS4 controller to play PS5 games on PS5, you can try using USB devices like ConsoleTuner Titan Two or Cronus Zen. Both works great. I can use back my ASTRO C40 TR to play all my PS5 games 👍
