Strange and potentially exciting things are happening at Electronic Arts, the once-maligned super-publisher that seems intent on turning things around, at least when it comes to hardcore players' perceptions of its brand. After ruining Mass Effect, nearly running BioWare into the ground, closing down storied dev Visceral, and botching most of its exclusive run of Star Wars games, it seems EA finally gets it: The audience demands more single-player games. And rumors are EA's about to deliver another one in the form of a Dead Space revival. That makes what was once dead very much alive, and we're very excited to talk about it. Plus: It appears Castlevania is getting a new collection, Sony expects PS5 to break sales records once it can adequately manufacture units, Ghost of Tsushima may be getting a standalone expansion, and much more. Then: Is Microsoft's xCloud a really big deal? What does it mean for a developer to be "media trained?" Will Sony wow us when they return to the mobile market? Does Chris know the difference between Cesar Romero and George Romero?

How do I hate and love this thumbnail so much?

Real Radec

You would look so dope in Prada, Louis Vuitton, or Gucci shirts.

They actually did release a bit of Morse code btw. I deciphered it on Twitter and tagged em. Dunno if this is Kojima but it’s interesting.

Kenneth Oms

On blue box, idk if this is kojima but I will say this. I spent the last few days going through their website using wayback machine. Their failed game rewind is sketchy as fuck. Legitimately popped up in 2015 and within a few weeks had multiple website changes and concept changes within days. The Kickstarter was up for a few days before being closed due to them finding a “private investor” a lot of their indie db pages have been deleted. Using wayback machine I found that blue box was working on this failed game called rewind , and a game called the haunting that Jason mentions in the article. The haunting is also listed on psn via hasans account as an early access game that you can wishlist. Sony doesn’t allow early access games. This studio is really sketchy dude. Just take some time and throw their website in wayback machine. It looks like a money laundering scheme

NeO JD

I wanted to write in about all these Sony devs (and now Quantic Dream also) making multiplayer games all of a sudden but you had already closed the thread. Hoping you guys mention this on the next episode, or at least reply here.

Jacob

about to start dead space 2 for the first time! really liked the first one so it has a lot to live up to. probably gonna skip DS3 haha

GameSimp

If you pre order physical games on Amazon, you don’t get charged until the product ships. Another perk of buying physical, just saying ;)

Stephen Forgione

No offense to Motive, but I don’t trust them to make a great game, let alone a good dead space. Battlefront 2’s campaign wasn’t good, and Squadrons was solid but very bite-sized. Hopefully they can get their feet wet with a remaster of the trilogy with Ray-traced lighting and fast loading before tackling an original dead space project

James McGivern

After posting the announcement about their involvement with Blue Box, Nuare unfollowed hundreds of accounts on Twitter except 10 -- one of which is (drumroll) Hideo Kojima. If this isn't some PR stunt, it's some Sean Murray level bullshit

LastStandMedia

It seems like they're doing a lot of second party multiplayer and first party single player.

Hey Colin. Would you ever consider doing a sacred symbols plus episode on the subject of pay in the gaming industry? With the beef jason has with you when talking about cdpr dev pay was and the Bobby topic on today’s show it would be very fun to deep dive in. Like Bobby has been with blizzard for 30 years but how much has his company grown under his leadership. Is it fair to equate his job with a low level dev or even a janitor at his company. How private and public has changed a lot of these perspectives. It would be fun to talk about this in depth as it’s a topic I think nobody wants to talk about it depth.

Ian (616Entertainment)

Listening to Colin and Chris talk about Superman is always infuriating, lol.

Adam

No offence to insomniac of course, they make really fun games to play. But I’m starting to get annoyed at people not giving naughty dog credit simply because they didn’t like the story/narrative around tlou2. That is arguably the best game ever made for many many reasons. I don’t believe anyone can make a game like they can in the scope that they do. I actually believe that if they made a more “fun” game in place of the most recent last of us with the same amount of detail to perfection people would be singing their praises to the high heavens. I enjoyed ghost of tsu more than the last of us and have put more hours in but if we are judging a game in its entirety and what actually goes into it and all the different aspects. Naught dog cannot be beat and I can’t wait for them to show people wrong with whatever they do next. They are AAAA if there was a thing.

Paul Knickerbocker

I'm calling it now. The Blue box studio game will be called supernatural. It starts with an S and ends with an L and fits the theme.

Andrew Arana

Fair point. I get the desperate approach and the reaction for people like us. The announcements are pointless at this moment. That initiative comparison clicked for me. Appreciate the response!

Andrew Arana

Also sorry about the complaining part. I meant that specifically about the topic, not in general. I meant no offense to any of you. My apologies.

Wayde

Playing Scarlett Nexus and it's fun as shit. You guy should give it a chance

Brandon Soto

Personally not looking forward to Silvicultural directed by Hassan Caramel

Jacob Alexander Irvine

The only two Romeros that you're aware of, Chris? *Ripping and tearing stops*

Big titty drinker

I love insomniac but Naughty Gods are king. This isnt a shot at insomniac but there are legit 3 games ND have made that are on a level insomniac has not reached yet. (They are the only ones even close tho.) Also completely unrelated but I finally played hades and found it pretty MEH. Transistor was way better and more creative in my opinion. Where as hades kinda bored me. ( which is weird considering I love Greek mythology) Not saying it's terrible but man as much as people hype that game I walked away kinda unimpressed tbh.

Big titty drinker

I'd have to agree with tlou2 being in the convo for greatest game ever. The gameplay is complete fire, every encounter feels like a life or death game of chess and some of the best enemy AI in a game ever. Story is phenomenal as well due to the various complexities behind charecter motivations. If your into psychology it really is fun to try and figure out WHY abby and ellie are making certain decisions and developing in a certain way. Like for example ellie's story. People try to write it off as a revenge plot. When really its a woman whos running away from her own guilt , shame and loss of purpose.

Adam

I just started hades after returnal. Returnal was my first actual rogue like game and I heard so much about hades that I was stoked. I like the dialogue but as for the gameplay I wasn’t impressed at all really. Maybe I’ll give transistor a try and see if that’s better.

Jeremy Seal

Welcome to Sacred Conspiracies. I love it.

Alec Dyer

Didn't quite understand Chris' point about the guy not being a developer just because he was attractive lol

Excited for the Castlevania Advance Collection. Played Circle of the Moon this year and made it to the final boss but I can restart it. I beat the other two. I imagine the games will look like the Megaman Zero games on PS4. Not crazy about the FF9 show. With this stuff it's almost always bad.

Andreas Lennartsson

You should invite Snake Man to this show some time. He sounds cool.

Michael Limauro

Really hope a dead space updated trilogy is real. Just started my first playthrough of Mass Effect 1 through the legendary edition. I appreciate the opportunities to play better versions of games I missed out on in the past.

Douglas Morreale

People are paid based on their value to the market place. Therefore Bezos, Kotick and so on are paid appropriately. Subjective "ethics" are irrelevant.

Douglas Morreale

Insomniac is better than Naughty Dog at making more fun video game ass video games.

Best ending to the podcast by far lol

Kyle

That line about the difference between a worker making $50,000 and the ceo making 10 million, or a worker making $50,000 and the CEO going to space killed me. God I love this podcast I couldn’t care less about executive compensation though. Only thing that matters to me is the quality of the product.

Derek Alcott

It's not that I don't want Playstation exclusives to come to PC but it is frustrating if they go on day one. I know that my situation is not the general public but I bought an expensive LG Oled and PS5 since Sony preached that Playstation is the best way to play their games. I wanted the games to look the best they possibly could but now it seems that's not true. I could of saved my money and bought a high powered gaming PC to get the most out of their exclusives. With that being said I do understand from Sony's point of view and why bringing games to PC is a good thing.

Robbie Sorrentino

I’m really excited to hear the potential for a Ghost of Tsushima DLC. If this were to happen, do you think Sucker Punch would aim for a standalone release like Infamous First Light or an expansion of the current map similar to what Guerrilla did with Frozen Wilds for Horizon?

Daddy Dilkers

Howdy gamers. Piggybacking off the question regarding fighting game crossovers, I wanted to haunt your dreams with what I cooked up. ClayFighter x Celebrity Death Match. For some reason I would love to see a claymation clash between Bad Mr Frosty and Vince Vaughn. Any other horrific ideas out there?

TIger Castle

Not sure if this happens to other people but I usually listen to Sacred Symbols on the apple podcast app on my phone because the Patreon mobile app stinks IMO but i feel like sometimes (this week way more frequently than others) the podcast will replay like the last 10-20 seconds. So i hear Colin say something....then all of a sudden he is saying it again, 30 minutes will go by and Dustin repeats the same 10ish seconds again. Only happens to Sacred Symbols on the apple podcast app. I may have to just suck it up and listen to all my SS casts on the Patreon app from now on as this week it was egregious amount of replays. Why does apple have to poo poo on my listening pleasure and does that happen to anyone else?!

Yo, I know you guys aren't all that keen on mobile gaming but I'd really like to know your thoughts on Sky: Children of the Light, that game is NUTS. Its from the creators of Journey and it is now a regular time killer for me, I play Sky over Black Ops Cold War sometimes now. It single handedly changed my mind about the potential of mobile games with its charming artstyle, I literally forget I'm playing a phone game at times

Ladder Ape

Wow you guys must have really enjoyed Downpour.

Hugo Stiglitz

It's coming to switch soon right? Maybe they could try it on that. I know I will. I think they might be like me and just need dedicated controls to play games. Not a fan of touch screens, and controller support on mobile is hit or miss. More often miss in my experience.

Hugo Stiglitz

I would just like to say I appreciate Dustin becoming a regular co host. I definitely enjoy that he adds correct technical information to the show. Especially when he pulls a Jamie and looks something up to fact check. I know you guys aren't super invested in the technical side of games so it's nice to see someone who is at least knowledgeable enough to improve the show in my opinion. Thanks Dustin

Hugo Stiglitz

Listen, I HATED the Last of Us Part II more than you'll ever know, however I still disagree with that statement. Does Insomniac make more gamey video games? Sure. But I don't think that necessarily make them more fun. Fun is subjective. For example, while I HATED TLOU II, I had an absolute blast with its stealth/combat gameplay, let alone a naughty dog game where I'm actually super invested into the story and other gameplay elements. IMO insomniac doesn't quite deliver those heights yet, though Spiderman 2018 and Rift Apart came pretty close IMO and I can see them surpassing ND. Especially if they bring back Resistance and make it as good or better than Rift Apart (much easier said than done)

Hugo Stiglitz

That's why I despise Playstation putting games on PC. I don't think there's anyway they don't eventually put games out on Day 1 if this continues, and when that's the case, the games will be worse for it without a doubt. A lot of people were against the PS4 Professional and XboneX because they thought it would add more development time. Those are just 2 extra hardware configurations that developers have to dedicate time to with the same architecture as the base consoles. 2 extra hardware SKU's is absolutely nothing compared to insane number of possible hardware configurations and architectures that PC has. The very reason why exclusive games are so special and so often able to achieve better results than third parties on the same hardware will be eliminated or at least reduced significantly. We will see worse games because of this. It's the same reason I'm against cross gen. I want games to be as good as they can be, and crossgen and PC ports make that impossible.

LastStandMedia

We've heard of some bugs related to the Apple Podcast app. I personally use it for my own podcast listening and have no issues. This is something that maybe deleting and reapplying your RSS link could fix.

Nate McKinney

I'm so excited for the Castlevania news. I remember we talked about this when the last collection came out. I asked if you thought the GBA games would be coming out as well. I'm fucking psyched to play those games again and with TROPHIES!

Nate McKinney

Dude. Don't you fucking jinx it, Colin! LOL. I hope they don't either. Those games don't get nearly enough love.
