It's a special episode for a special event. Xbox and Bethesda have teamed up for the first time to put on a showcase displaying what is heading to the ecosystem throughout the rest of 2021 and into 2022. Out of the 30 titles shown off, 27 are making their way to Xbox Game Pass which no doubt piles on the already staggering value. With that, they also hit hard with new console exclusives like Contraband, Starfield, Redfall, and many more. For a company with "no games," Xbox has attempted to flip that script very quickly. The remaining question is, has this showcase delivered enough to justify the purchase of the new consoles? Are concepts enough? As expected, we dive deep.

Who knew having games for your gaming console was a good idea. Thanks Uncle Phil.

Alan Ortega-Lopez

Hey Dukes, I gotta push back on the take that the fake voices in BF2042 multi-player were there to make it feel single player. I started on bf3 and since then all the battlefields have had player soldiers scream out lines depending on what's going on in multi-player.

Man you guys seem sleepy. I know you guys been working your butts off because of e3 but I was expecting high energy right off the bat and it was just kind of mellow. No disrespect, still a great episode.

I like ACG, I really do. But his SoT take was just factually inaccurate. Yes, the game was empty at launch. But the AI worked. You could fight skeletons on islands and at skull forts. In fact, it was basically the only thing to do, apart from PvP. I'd also argue (and yes, we're getting into opinions here) that the game was good at launch. Over time, it's become excellent. But fighting another crew over a massive loot haul has always been fun. <3 everything you guys are doing.

with all due respect, Karak does know what free means right? lol

Explosivebob

Agreed, it sounded like every other battlefield game I've played. I believe the bad company's had soldiers yelling out reaction lines aswell.

I’m fairly new and I love what I’ve heard from Colin’s crew, but with all the respect I can muster, I found Karak to be incredibly arrogant almost every time he opened his mouth. I’m not sure I can listen to these if he’s a regular.

I love Matty but ACG was particularly bad on this episode. I'm not a big fan of Halo MP being F2P but how can you say it's not a big deal? It's not 'always been done'. This section was so tough, and the BF take about it 'trying to be single player' was also so hard to listen to. Sorry, this has been a bit of a whiny comment but some parts of this were borderline unlistenable

Explosivebob

Does a game have to have a singleplayer campaign to offer the most value to the gamer? As someone who grew up playing the multiplayer side of games, when a game says they are multiplayer only, I don't immediately question the value they are offering. I get that Battlefield is a bit different as they have offered a singleplayer mode since BF2 Modern Combat. And Matty you mention that Battlefield should not just give up and should at least try to offer a singleplayer mode. Does this apply to all games, or are these thoughts mainly directed at the Battlefield series? I find this argument interesting because I never see this notion of cut value directed toward singleplayer only games, in fact when games started tacking on a multiplayer mode like Bioshock 2 everyone reviled and wanted the game to go back and focus on its singleplayer roots. Love the show, the hard work you guys put into making this! Have yourselves a bombastic day.

MrMattyPlays

I think that's because I found the showcase solid and not out of this world. A lot of the things I'm interested in outside of Halo are far off.

It’s incredibly frustrating having to read all the Nintendo fans shouting Nintendo saved E3 & continuing the narrative that XBox has no games or no interesting games on the official Facebook groups I’m in, even platform agnostic ones like What’s Good Games & Giant Bomb.

Kingstons Grandma

I'm confused, and maybe this isn't the same but forgive my ignorance as I'm not a COD fan. Regarding weather or not we've seen a premium single player game offer a separate FTP multiplayer component, wasn't the last time we saw that with Call of Duty: Warzone? Or is Warzone a standalone game and not a part of a single player COD game?

As I said to ACG on Twitter I don’t have a crew to play any of the non-CoD MP games with, so I’m just waiting for BF 2042 to hit Game Pass. The difference of it not having a campaign is the difference between me buying it on a Black Friday sale, or not buying it at all & just waiting for it to hit the subscription service.

Explosivebob

@Jason Billingsley That's totally understandable, does the fact that this Battlefield features a Vs Bot mode change things for you in that respect?

Viktor

I think it’s safe to say that Asobo Studio are the winners of this year’s E3.

Es muy lindo

BlindRiot

ACG makes enjoying Defining Duke difficult…somebody had to say it.

BlindRiot

Great coverage Matty!

Josh Walker

Why doesn't 343 just say Infinite is a game as a service? After the E3 showing it's clear to me that Infinite will launch "unfinished." You won't be able to fly from one side of the Halo ring to the other, until maybe year three of the game being out. It's all in the name of the game, Dukes.

Roman Harmon

Can we all agree ACG might have had a few too many “brownies” before the show.

Alan Ortega-Lopez

I toss some of the takes on this ep along with colins take on the ps5s ssd being too fast therefore causing problems lol. Everyone has had too many brownies at times.

Keenan

If it wasn’t for ACG it would just be another run of the mill podcast. But I get that most people just want a generic happy go lucky host, that’s boring af to me. ACG spices the show up.

BlindRiot

No, I mean in that he sounds a lot of the time like he’d rather not be there, plus that Halo confusion was odd. Lastly he doesn’t realize that saying I don’t care negates whatever follows it.

Greg Mocha

You may enjoy his own podcast more, I tend to feel he does better when he is the host instead of the guest. I don’t think anyone wants happy go lucky. But we do want fresh invested thoughts. He does come off arrogant unfortunately. But, his compassion for his Patreon community is legendary. I was a part of his Patreon for many months and he was respectful and fun. A great community. I lost my job and he took time to wish me well and encourage me. and then months later when I found a new one he reached out and congratulated me.

AllTooEasy_

I still dont understand how Karak and be “here with ACG”. That’s you dude.

Anonymous

Lol that's his brand like Colin with Last Stand Media. Karak with Angry Centaur Gaming.

Brent Lindquist

The “multiplayer you paid for has always been free” conversation was frustrating and hysterical. I’ve gone back and listened to that part three times.

BlindRiot

Thanks Greg, I’ll check it out.

BlindRiot

Does anyone else wish that PlayStation was a bit more personable like Xbox? They often come off as dry and robotic. At times it’s as if they’ve forgotten that their industry is fun. Maybe it’s the dour dire games, I’m not sure.
