In its mere existence, 2016's Rogue One is an interesting movie. It's the first Star Wars film (per se) that's unassociated from the three trilogies, yet it intimately intertwines with and sets the stage for the very first Star Wars offering: 1977's Episode IV. Of course, it's even more interesting when it comes to what it's about, a daring caper to steal Imperial plans for the original Death Star so that the Rebellion may exploit its weakness and destroy the Empire's moon-sized weapon. We see that play out in A New Hope, so Rogue One is entirely prologue. Yet, that's what makes it awesome. We're infinitely excited to talk to you about what we deem to be easily one of the best Star Wars films, and if you don't agree when you hit play, you may just agree on the other end.

The best star wars movie after empire.

I was lucky to see an early screening of this while deployed in Iraq right before it came out. They said they were going to do a trivia contest for some swag and my buddies goaded me into raising my hand. Well, they pulled a bait and switch and said they just wanted us to sing the Star Wars theme song by Williams, and by applause they would pick the winner. After a few soldiers went, I got up and said I was going to sing the true Star Wars anthem and proceeded to belt out the Imperial March to mad applause. Got a pretty sweet Death Star shaped General's coin out of it :)

I found myself watching this last Night far too late to ask the Question I came up with so I post it here Why is the Imperial Navy so Timid?!?! The Scarif Garrison Fleet was more than enough the wreck the Rebel forces but those ISD's stayed far back and let the fighters attack vs moving into brawling range. When the Devastator jumps in, she absolutely mauls the Rebel Fleet - Now granted the Rebels had been in sustained combat and the Devastator is coming in fresh but just look at what Close Range Superiority an ISD has. I realized now that I don't really have a question, I just want to talk about imaginary Space Battle Tactics...so if you ever want to do that Colin give me a call ^_~

Rogue One is without question my favorite Star Wars film. I didn't think it would ever happen, but they made something better than the originals, this movie was amazing. (even more so as I hadn't realized what I was watching until it was happening near the end and I knew this was a pretty much closed ended story 👌👌)

In one of the more recent Star Wars comics, it's revealed that Luke's fighter wing during the rebellion, Rogue Squadron, is named in honor of Jyn and the crew of Rogue One.

Michael Toledo

This is probably my favorite star wars film. It hits all the right notes without overstaying it's welcome

Read the Thrawn books by Timothy Zahn. There are three trilogies and 1 book of another trilogy on the way. All are amazing books and will make you hate everything after the return even more, his original Thrawn trilogy should of been episodes 7,8 and 9

I think Star Wars is in a better place weirdly enough. I think they understand that the smaller screen is a better medium for the property while giving us time to take a break from the disaster that is EP 9

Adam Niksch

It’s always a good episode when you and your brother talk Star Wars. This is easily the best Disney Star Wars movie, and up there with the best Star Wars since the original trilogy (Clone Wars Season 7 is also great). I’d love for you both to talk about Episode 3 at some point. I hated the prequels for as long as I could remember, then I listened to your episode on Episode 1. It made me go back and rewatch all 3 and I came away actually thinking Revenge of the Sith is a pretty good movie, as well as realizing they prequel trilogy is surprisingly vastly better than the sequel trilogy.

It’s awesome to hear that you two love this movie, but I thought the film overall was pretty weak. I didn’t care about any of the characters, and I thought some of the performances were pretty cringe, including Felicity Jones’s. Lol I know this is a hot take, but I’ve never understood why people love this movie so much 😂 That ending scene with Vader was top notch stuff, though. Probably one of the best Star Wars scenes ever produced.

My favorite Star Wars film, looking forward to this one!

David Kramme

This was a perfect excuse for me to revisit the movie, still great, thanks for the conversation.

I still cant believe you liked Solo that much Colin. I didn't hate it but it was just kind of a nothing burger. Didn't feel like Star Wars more like The Adventures of Space Man. But I totally agree that Rogue One is arguably one of the best things to ever come out of Star Wars.

Film is awesome. The final showdown on Scariff is arguably my favourite hour in film history. Shame we can't get more like it from Disney. I guess AotC and RotS are next for you two 🤭

Kendrick Calles (Ca-Yes)

I’ve always been an apologist of the prequels. I can totally see the issues people have with Episode 1 and 2. But yeah man. Episode 3 is actually a good movie.

Adam Niksch

I still don’t like 2 at all. I think it and last Jedi fight for worst film. 1 isn’t nearly as bad as I remembered though, especially with the recent Dave Filoni explanation of why the battle between Maul and Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon was so important. I think George just tried to do too much with the prequels overall. Trying to tell the story of Anakin and his fall, along with the fall of the Republic, rise of Sidious/the Empire, and expose the problems with the Jedi order was too much for 3 films.

Lucas Flatter

I feel similarly. I love the final battle and Vader stuff, but the first 2/3 of the movie are a mess. Especially the first 20-30 mins where it's constantly jumping between planets.

Kevin Tuber

I’ve tried to watch this movie several times but never seem to get very far into it. I will finish it one day.

MikeLee

It's a little funny being a big Last Jedi fan and listening to these Star Wars episodes you guys do. I wished that you guys would really discuss some more of the big criticisms Rogue One gets, since you guys are always taking shots at some of the other films, especially Ep VIII, but at the very least, I'm glad you guys got a lot of enjoyment out of one of the Disney era films.

LastStandMedia

I don't read enough to even know what the common critiques are. I like to go in with my own head of steam, as it were.

Jeffrey Watts

Honestly even more horrifying for that Vader scene is when you realized the door to escape isn't jammed, Vader is holding it shut with the force to prevent escape

Craig Birchmeier

For the love of God watch the Mandalorian. It is exactly what you say you like about Star Wars. I liked season 1 but season 2 has me putting it on the same level as the OT.
