We may not have any idea when PlayStation 5 is coming out, what it'll cost, or even if many of us will be able to get our hands on one at launch. But what we do know -- thanks to a recent consumer survey conducted in the UK -- is that Sony's upcoming console is far, far more eagerly-anticipated than Microsoft's Xbox Series X. Does this spell good (or even great) news for PS5, or are any celebrations out of Tokyo premature? Let's sift through the details and figure it out. Then: Ghost of Tsushima sets a first party sales record, a spiritual successor to Suikoden is on the way, Ubisoft almost green-lit a medieval RPG, Cuphead has randomly arrived on PS4, and more. Plus: G4 is coming back... but why? Joe Rogan isn't a big video game fan... but so what? Crunch seems to be derided in games yet celebrated in other industries... but does it matter? Chris has probably never had baked beans in his life... but how is that possible?

Now my Friday can officially begin.

Anthony J Sanchez

There was a rumor of a PS5 August 6th event, where they would show God of War II and also give us the release date and price of the consoles. However, I'm starting to doubt that now.

Cameron O'Neill

Baked beans are literally one of the worst things to come from American cuisine. Take a delicious healthy thing and add a bunch of sugar and bacon to make them unhealthy. Classic unhealthy American cooking.

"According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, dairy refers to "all fluid milk products and foods made from milk." This includes milk, yogurt, cheese, ice cream, and butter. Eggs are not included. They belong in the meat, poultry, fish, and eggs category, and are considered animal products." Eggs are classified with meat according to the government.

On the Patreon app, I noticed when I was using Android the thumbnail when you listen is the custom one, and since I’ve had an iPhone it’s been the default cls logo.

LastStandMedia

Yeah, for me on iPhone it's just the CLS logo. Which is fine! But I'd prefer the thumbnails come through.

Anonymous

Hi Colin!

Anonymous

I still have no idea how people can fly be that fucking big.

Wayde

Ps5 is more anticipated because of games. Xbox showed us squat to be really excited about.

Troy Leonard

why am I not getting these on Tuesday when I support at the 5 and above level? My last two weeks have been only available at Friday at 11.

Andres

Thumbnails come through on Android. p.s. how is Chris so ignorant in culinary discourse????

Anonymous

Cant wait! The first 30-45 mins of this podcast have fast become my favourite hour of any podcasts (and i listen to a lot) its absolute fucking nonsense and i love it

Anonymous

And i realise i said the 30-45 mins then referenced it as an hour...thats some real advanced level math

Hodge

I’m listening to the Bioshock 2 knockback next but the 10 minute(ish) rant about the games makes me wanna go through them again. But my backlog is so huge and I need to hop into it. Uggghhhhhhhhhhh CHOICES

Mark

5am stumbling home drubk and this pops up. Just what I needed haha

Anonymous

Some of these improv drops need to actually be made into games

Anonymous

Your resident waterfowler is here again to agree with Chris on the deliciousness of duck. And Colin is horribly wrong.

Jimmy Valentine

Sounds like Colin is already 25% to creating a bug out bag. Might as well continue with the gun and everything else you need. :)

Bryan Lozano

Baked beans are good but nothing beats the classic refried beans or on a special occasion charro beans. Also shoutout to the black beans and white rice combo. My grandpa was the good ole classic Mexican bean farmer, so yeeeaa beans took a major role in my childhood cuisine. P.S I could go my whole life without silverware all due to tortillas! My family and I probably go through 2 kilos of tortillas every week which is insane.

Nathan Guergis

No, it's not "mean and unfair" to make up the drop.

Owen

I couldn’t get the scene from Bill Durham outa my head with all this lollygagger talk

Monterey Jack

Leatherly is officially my new favorite word, LOL

Kenneth Oms

Joe Rogans views on games was taken out of context. He was talking about kids who lack motivation from broken homes and instead of having a role model to help them get out they escape into drugs or video games and never break out. He never mentioned that it was like alcoholism, when he said he has a huge problem with them, he meant his addiction problem with it. It was the dumbest controversy, and it’s insane how the story has changed from people to people - like a bad game of telephone. He also had David Choe on who talked about how his Warcraft 2 addiction was so bad he was playing for 18-20 hours a day. It cost him art gigs and even his health.

Anonymous

Loving the show so far and as a Brit I can understand the love and culture surrounding baked beans! Adding to my question and your discussion surrounding Grounded - Xbox Wire published a blog post today confirming the game has hit 1 million players in the first 48 hours of release! While nothing groundbreaking (sorry!), given the minimal marketing, expectations, early access and that only around 13 people at Obsidian worked on the project, it appears the game has been a success so far.

Wayde

I got 10 bucks been a ps plus subscriber since the beginning too 18 plats

The beans video @ 06:05 https://youtu.be/4HhPK8XC75A

About the beans, im hispanic and chris being a hispanic i feel like what he knows as beans is only refried beans like i do.

Dom posa

Colin you always try so hard to be nice to Xbox to not seem like one of the fanboys. I get it and I know there’s lots of Xbox people that support but it getting hard! 🤣

Josh Lucas

Colin you gotta go back and beat Final Fantasy 7 Remake soon because it really would affect all of your conversations about it. It would also strengthen your stance on playing the original first haha. Just got the Cuphead Plat :P it’s sitting at 0.2% right now

Miles Williams

I was driving with my 13 year old nephew earlier, and turned on this podcast. My nephew said "is that Chris Ray Gun?" Apparently he's a fan. I had no idea :)

Kaleb

I was today years old when I learned that Roll was Megamans sister. Most of my exposure to Megaman has been through Battle Network which they have no relation in. Also that Demons Tilt game sounded cool until I remembered you were making everything up.

Paul McFerron

Hey Colin, Love the EP! In terms of the drop: I'm in agreement with the Patron who finds the improv bit a tad disingenuous. I honestly felt the majority of the humor was reading the actual LUDICROUS descriptions of the game... it may take up even more time, but grabbing the actual description from PSN along with the title would be preferred. I took for granted how much I enjoyed the drop, and find myself tuning out a bit more during the segment. Hope this feedback helps! All the best

Anonymous

Hey Colin! I know you’ve answered this a million times, but with the whole discussion of the issues with listening to the podcast in the Patreon app, how do I get the RSS link (I think that’s how you referred to it?) so I can listen in the Apple podcast app without waiting for free feeds? I’ll remember this time hopefully!

Jordan Knepp

What my wife and I do is if we want to watch something on HBO we sign up and when we are done with the show we are watching we cancel it. Then, a couple months down the road when something else comes out we sign up again. This way we aren't paying for months we aren't using it and you can do this infinitely. Same with Hulu for Handmaids Tale

LastStandMedia

Yeah, I guess I feel cheap doing that, but... I really should. I really only use Netflix and Amazon Prime with any regularity. Hulu I barely use.

Zack Forney

Just a few possibly useless comments on the whole Remake debate: I don’t think that guy was saying that he’s not going to play ANY game that was made before he was born. Games that you mentioned like Symphony of the Night, Link to the Past, Mega Man, and Super Mario World are timeless and can be picked up with little to no problems from modern players. (This fact is also why you’ve seen spiritual successors to these games rather than full on remakes) Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy 7 have design and graphic elements that make them almost unplayable to players that haven’t experienced that type of game before, and I don’t think that they need to actually play the games to get why their remakes are awesome. I love love LOVED resident evil 2 remake without playing the original. I’ve seen people older than me play that game, and I appreciate it but I’m never going to experience it myself because I can’t deal with tank controls or fixed camera angles. I played through the entirety of the remake and thought it was fucking awesome, really appreciating how they took a game that seemed unplayable to me and translating it in a way that I could understand while vastly improving on the graphical performance. What I’m saying is that young gamers should play games from any era but also that older and younger gamers can appreciate remakes of older games for different reasons. Older gamers can appreciate a remake because developers have taken a world they experienced before and fleshed it out in a way that they couldn’t before; younger gamers appreciate remakes because developers have taken a world they couldn’t experience before and fleshed it out in a way that makes sense in their heads.

Brandon Soto

My picks for Xbox games I’d want on PS4: 1. Master Chief Collection 2. Sunset Overdrive 3. Ori & the Blind Forest

Jordan Knepp

I would also like to add that Wasteland 3 was a kind of kickstarter. It was done on Prune, or Raisin, or some platform like that. I can't wait for that game. Wasteland 2 was a hidden gem that not a lot of people tried out. If you love Fallout, play the grand daddy of Fallout.

Kevin Sullivan

Is Danny DeVito (4'10") too tall to play Mega Man in a movie?

Henry Maxwell

I guess I'll comment next week with this for corrections, but the incident that Ghost of Tsushima takes place in is significant in history itself because a monsoon came and wiped out the Mongols not once, but twice. First in 1274 and then again in 1281. These incidents are mythologized in Japanese culture as divine intervention, and I can completely understand why all things considered. So presumably, since Ghost takes place in the first of these two events, a sequel would take place in the 1281 invasion.

I'm still tempted to up my pledge based solely on the M4 - Faunts recommendation

Andrew

Girlfriend told me veal is immoral. Needless to say she’s single

Real Radec

What if for a Sacred Symbols Plus episode Chris and MrMattyPlays do an hour all about Destroy All Humans? They both love the franchise and id love to hear their deeper thoughts

Anonymous

I’m actually much more excited for the Xbox Series X. It’s the better piece of hardware so third-party games will continue to play best on Xbox. What they’re doing with back compat is really exciting to me, things like doubling framerate and auto HDR with no dev work required. And then there’s the games. Halo Infinite, The Medium, and Gears Tactics are more exciting launch games compared to what Sony has to offer (so far). And the future has never been brighter for Xbox Game Studios. Lots to look forward to. That said, I’ll still be buying a PS5 Day 1 and it will be my ultimate exclusive machine just like my PS4. I’m really looking forward to both consoles and I think they both have a lot to offer, but to each their own :)

Gabriel Garcia

Hah you were close on Demon's Tilt. It is a pinball game, I only know that cause it was free on games pass for PC and I played it. Idk I watched a documentary on pinballs a while ago and I kinda liked pinball games after that and appreciated them more in what they try to do and how they implement mechanics and objectives.

Tyler Cumerford

Colin I accidentally transferred 4000 into your account. I need you to go to your nearest target and get 7 Google play gift cards. Tell them it's for a wedding. Thanks.

Craig Mcguire

I like Joe Rogan, couldnt care less about his opinion on games because its an opinion a lot of people I know personally share and one I have had to deal with for years. Im almost numb to it now.

lazer_josh

Veal is immoral

Erk-Prime

My back to the shower - first on entry I'll make sure my entire body gets H20 on it. I'll wet my hair to then have head and shoulders shampoo sit in it. To then I grab the bar of soap and use it on my whole body while back is turned. I'll rub the bar of soap on my trap/neck area for a minute or two assuming the soap lather is running down my back to clean it...

Alan Miller

To all the CLS guys thanks for the all the great content gents. It is really helping me get through some difficult times at the moment. Everything is very much appreciated

NeO JD

“Who am I to judge? I just speak English just like you do.” 😂 “I don’t understand what’s going on with you in the shower.” None of us do, Colin.

Brian Lau

Regarding the Mega Man movie, the other guy in the IGN interview referenced Bionic Commando because he had a hook to get around. If this movie ever gets made, it will be like those video game movies in the 80's and 90's where they just take the name and make their own story.

Anonymous

Colin I love you and have been listen to you since Beyond. I know I’m going to catch shit for this but you are turning into a PlayStation fanboy.

Jajcen Harris

Nah man he has always been critical as well as loyal to Sony. I think he still remains objective.

BlindRiot

Who’s excited for the PS4 State of Pay?

Your Boi Nicky V

"Ass Colin" and "Titties Chris". God I love this podcast.

Max Stahl

Duck lover master race checking in! I haven't any that I haven't liked.

Not Sure

About Bob Lazar and UFO's....I think UFO's are time machines. Maybe they're actually man-made, made way far into the future, and put here to advance technology quicker.

Josh Walker

Just started rewatching Hannibal tv series, Hannibal just talked about veal, said pigs are slaughtered at a younger age. Veal is good. God's gift to man.

Empty Symbol

I would argue that making fun of the games on The Drop is not mean and completely fair. For one you are not making fun of the game for what it actually is, only of what the various titles bring to your respective minds. And it is totally fair because you don't leave anyone out everyone gets made fun of equally. The only difference I see between what you are doing now and the previous Drop is that the new Drop is actually funny. Let's not forget you roasted the games before because of their God awful write-ups which was arguably more mean. Anyway that's just my two cents. Take care guys.

Tyler Bello

The egg is nothing if it hasn't been fertilized.. no meat!

Calvin

Colin you should play "blasphemous" metroidvania game and it's just recieved a free update and it's on sale. It's freaking awesome.

Anonymous

Jesus. Chris really got offended by Rogan lol. I'm with Colin, who cares.....

BlindRiot

I’ll probably pick up a PS5 at some point but right now Xbox is getting my preorder. Based on the fact that my One X is where I play anything not a Sony first party. I want Cyberpunk to be running it’s console best.

LastStandMedia

Well, let's be clear: I think you CAN enjoy a remake of a game you've not played, but I think it's impossible for you to get the full experience from it without having played the original. It's awesome that you like RE2R, but it's impossible for you to fully get it. If you're fine with that, then by all means! I think that's perfectly fine.

Tyson Williams

Eggs that we eat aren't fertilized so they contain no meat

Anonymous

1. Meat is flesh. So no, eggs aren't meat. 2. The ethics around veal simply refer to the keeping of the animal, not the age (veal is analagous to lamb in the maturity sense). Calves used to be crated, so they couldn't move, which stops the muscles working, makes the meat more tender. We banned that practice in the UK in 1990, but it carried on in Europe for much longer. So British veal is "Rose" veal, because it is pinker, due to the fact that the animals are actually allowed to live. Moot point really - as crating is now mostly illegal - the ethical dilemma is gone. EDIT - on a (semi-relevant) tangent - foie gras is the same principle. It's not the thing that's the problem, but the production method (force-feeding of geese in that case). Now it is produced humanely; no issue.

Tyson Williams

Diagetic is like top ten favorite words for me

Jeremiah Lyne

I’ve been playing games all my life and would say on balance that they’ve been a positive for me (great experiences, stories, develops problem solving skills etc). However, I can definitely see Joe Rogan’s point - there is not doubt that games are addictive e.g. a lot of digital marketing and analytics tools originate from gaming platforms. When I’m in the middle of some games, they can be an all consuming affair. However, I’m into single player experiences which have an end goal and there is often a sense of relief when I finish a game that I have my life back. I’m wondering if Joe was really talking more about multiplayer games?

Tyson Williams

I take umbrage with Alexandro not giving games that predate his sentience a chance, I'm 18 and have an immense love and interest for gaming history. It's not for everyone but I even enjoy playing games that haven't aged well because they still have historical value. I would even say some of those games that predate my existence are some of my favorite games ever

LastStandMedia

Who knows? He should expand on his argument in a new podcast with someone who can talk about all of it. But generally, I think games are a net positive both generally, and for me. =)

LastStandMedia

Eventually, it might not be reasonable to go back and play through the classics, but it still is, if you dedicate some time to it.
