In December of 1994, the original PlayStation launched in Japan, and the rest (as they say) is history. Fast-forward 25 years, and the PlayStation brand is an absolute powerhouse. PSone, PS2, and PS4 have all surpassed 100 million sold (only one other home video game console has ever done the same), and even those that fell short -- PS3, PSP, and even Vita -- have all left an indelible mark on our industry. So let's celebrate, shall we? Then, let's get into some news! Hideo Kojima's longtime producer has officially left his side after nearly two decades, more PS5 dev kits have popped up in the wild, Codemasters made a new studio purchase, and Titanfall 2 dramatically returns as a free PS+ game. Also, listener inquiries! What does the increasing prevalence of digital marketplaces mean for game sharing? Is PS4 Remote Play on iOS and Android viable? How do games with broken Trophies make it through certification? Does anyone in this world like Long John Silver's? Let's talk it through.

Nice, I see my comment in the timestamp! Can't wait to listen.

I've been playing Jedi Fallen Order on PC since launch, and I never experienced any problems or glitches. That is until Chris mentioned he had problems. Now I've got screen-tearing and bad texture pop in. So once again Chris willing things into existence.

Dark meat has a higher fat content, as those muscles are used less vigorously. That’s why it objectively tastes better than white meat. White meat, like the breast, has a low fat content because it’s a vigorously used muscle. If you say any other piece of chicken is better than the chicken thigh, I highly encourage trying each piece of chicken side by side. You will become a chicken thigh evangelist just like me.

Adam Barnes

Colin, you said in this episode that you’ve never had lamb outside of an Indian restaurant. That’s fuckin’ crazy to hear as an Australian. Lamb is one of the main proteins over here. Is that just a you thing or do Americans not really eat lamb?

Mitch Trubisky’s Number 2 Fan

hey. not trying to complain or anything but the quality of chris’ voice in this episode is a little lower than normal, or maybe i’m just paying closer attention. not a huge deal but there might be a problem with skype or the recording software or something.

Anonymous

I would much much rather have ads and product placement in games, than have micro transactions or a price jump.

I'm playing Fallen Order on a launch PS4, I haven't had any crazy or game-breaking bugs, occasionally I'll get stuck on a door or in between two objects but eventually get loose. I thought the load times were awful so I actually lowered the difficulty to story-mode just so I don't die as often. I still really like the game a lot.

Zach Theuriet

I feel that the patent filed by Sony for “user generated content” feeds back into their talk of granular loading and being able to load into a more specific instance in a game or chapter, but translated into a social version of almost saved game sharing.

Benito

Hey Collin Fallen order is actually between the 17 year gap of 3 and 4! Take care!

Haydyn

Fallen Order is set 5 years after Revenge of The Sith. The lore is related to The Clone Wars and Rebels animated shows more than it is to the Prequel Trilogy and I'm glad to hear that it's sucking you in.

I for one am excited about the resurrection of Titanfall 2. For someone that never got to really play it. I’m currently at work listening, and my friend sends me a screenshot of the current player numbers. And it’s already up about 5k from normal. Total about 8k on PS4. That’s probably the highest it’s been in years.

Joey Finelli

75 episodes. Well done.

Hey CnC, long time listener, concerningly frequent writer. did either of you catch wind of IGN's Pokemon Review, and the subsequent defense on NVC, during which the reviewer claimed that there are "no glaring issues with the game?" If so, how have you guys found it best to approach having a sharply different opinion regarding a game than your audience? and why is it that I get the sense that for certain franchises - nintendo in particular - those in games media almost outwardly try to sell their products? is the hope to work for a Nintendo someday, so better mind one's P's and Q's now? Or am I just crazy? I bought mario odyssey and breath of the wild after MONTHS of the proverbial "conversation" treating these games as if they were divine entities for which should all be humbled by sharing oxygen with. and I thought both were shit. top to bottom and I dont think im particularly smarter than anyone else who's played these games, so how could I see that and others couldnt?

To people who gameshare on PS4. It seems to me coles question was super confusing to me as someone who game shares on Xbox. All you have to do for Xbox is out your account primary console as your friends and they have access to your games to download and play on their account. Cole basically seemed worried about losing trophies to his friend but is the PS4 that different where you must be logged in as your friend or can he just use his account and just have access to your games. Seems like Sony’s way of game sharing isn’t that different and maybe Cole isn’t aware how to gameshare without a hassle

Colin and Chris, I love you so much, but our relationship may have been damaged with your conversation about White/Dark meat. Personal preferences aside who on earth calls RED meat, Dark meat? Maybe it’s another America V Different regions of the world thing but it’s time you both adopted red meat. It’s called that way because it’s red and bleeds...red blood

hugplx

You've really only had lamb at an Indian restaurant? I like Indian fine, but traditionally their style is to smother their food in flavour and sauces to cover poor quality meat. I don't know what Greek restaurants are like in America, but you need to try some Lamb Gyros from one when you can. Rib-eye is still my favorite meat, but lamb is a close second (i also find lamb cutlets better than pork, though that could still be meat quality differences between countries...) I'd invite you both over to try some proper Greek bbq, but your sensitive souls wouldn't survive the assault from Australia's fauna. :p

hugplx

That Sony patent to me read like everything you said, but then the person searching said moments then gets to PLAY them.

Barrett Boswell

Awesome episode. If you haven't seen it, Game Informer has a cool article interviewing people who worked on the Playstation consoles the past 25 years. I recommend checking it out.

I'm shocked. Shocked at Chris saying he doesn't like Thanksgiving leftovers. As for Colin, as a Canadian I'll give you a secret.. throw your leftovers on some fries and cover it with cheese curds and gravy. The best variation of poutine there is.

Anonymous

Hey guys, this might be due to the fact that Chris is in New York, I think, but there were times where he sounded muffled. Still a great episode as always, just wanted to let you guys know. Thanks for everything.

TheBufferPiece

It also sounds like it's not the user tagging the photo, but instead it automatically detects different things in the screenshot/video and tags it accordingly. Being able to play those moments sounds like it could be really interesting depending on how it works

TheBufferPiece

I really don't feel like money was the main reason for Monster or Ride being in Death Stranding. Kojima has always liked having real products in his games going as far back as Calorie Mate in MGS3 (even though Calorie Mate was not created until after MGS3 takes place). As Americans we just didn't notice it because they were Japanese products instead of American. Peace Walker had Doritos you could eat and you could buy PW clothes from UNIQLO and put a code in so snake could wear it in game.

Anonymous

Just saying, but Lamb is clearly the superior meat. You guys are sleeping on some lamb.

TheBufferPiece

I game share on PS4 with my friend. All you have to do is set your friend's system as your account's primary and vice versa. The only down side is in order to play games that you own you need to be connected to the internet. You can play your friend's games offline though. It doesn't mess with trophies or anything like that. I only ever need to log into my friend's account when I want to download a game he just bought. If game sharing messed with trophies would have never done it lol.

Just as an update, the current player numbers are 15.5k

Sumojoe118

Interesting you think Metalhead is the best black mirror episode, I think it's the worst. There is barely any plot and there aren't really any deeper themes to think about like the other episodes.

Alex Bolton

Colin, about your meat conversation at the start of the ep, I've got some great recommendations for awesome burgers in Richmond. Boulevard Burgers and Brew is hands down my favorite place. Their burgers are excellent, and the atmosphere is awesome. They play only 90s and early 2000s rock on the radio, and they have a great beer selection too. Citizen burger is an even better burger, but not a great beer selection. They have really thick patty burgers and the fries are excellent. Lastly, you gotta try Bottom Burger, kind of a hole in the wall type place but the burgers there are so good, if you like a shit ton of toppings this is the place to go.

Player Hater’s Ball is one of my favorite skits! “Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go put water in Buck Nasty’s Mama’s dish” 😂😂

NeO JD

Chicken all the way. Never thought about it but yeah where are all the Scarlet leaks at? That PS5 thing you couldn’t get, to me sounds like the thing Stadia wants to implement where other ppl can search for things, and even recreate save states. The best example of picking up a game later for me was The Last of Us. I didn’t get the gameplay at first but then went back sometime later and everything clicked. I’d love to see GTA try implementing choices.

Kenneth Oms

It sounds to me that the UGC patent is for an update the community thing that psn has. My hope would be that is that they will integrate it to the PlayStation store, so if you want to buy a game you can see the UGC tab in there and watch someone streaming it on psn or user submitted videos etc to see if you want to buy it or not. it just sounds like they want to do their own reddit but built into the psn so they can keep you online longer/meet new people for help/team up for multiplayer games etc. The website I work for has a big UGC component so I’m strangely excited for this.

Andres

Colin, Yes Heavy Metal is one of the sickest Black Mirror episodes but .. No, Boston Dynamics did not copy Heavy Metal's robot. Boston Dynamics has been making quadruped robots in that shape & style since 2005 (BigDog). They have been making a small version, the Spot Mini - like the one in Heavy Metal, since 2015/2016.

Sumojoe118

Hey Colin I just wanted to let you know about this website called gamstat.com, someone has figured out some sort of mathematical algorithm based on trophy data to calculate player numbers for everything on psn. There is more info on the website but it seems to be fairly accurate and presents a ton of very useful data.

This. When Chris and Colin we’re discussing this patent’s description, I had a very similar thought to your comment. This patent sounds like it could function similarly to Google Stadia’s game sharing “hyperlink” system. Where the idea was that you could be watching a content creator’s gameplay of a game, grab the link, and throw it into Stadia (somehow) and play at that exact instance. Cool stuff if you ask me! Thanks for putting up this comment, Zach!

Jedi fallen order takes place after episode 3.

I'm playing on hard and I think I'm gonna bump it down to normal, because I'm just not very good at it.

LastStandMedia

I don't read IGN except to look for news, and I've never listened to NVC. So, no. =\ Nintendo gets a reviews bump. I'm telling you guys. =)

LastStandMedia

We said that this wasn't the first time he put products into his game. I love you guys lots, but I feel like sometimes y'all just wanna correct things without listening. <3

I think we're all lucky the PlayStation Store works at all, so let's not get carried away.

Per Chris’s comment about new player base fodder, nothing beats when Conan Exiles was released on Playstation Plus earlier this year, the noob slaughter was amazing.

Just had to write in and say that Ryan who wrote in about cardinal directions was incorrect. Saying "south by Southwest" or "north by northeast" is incorrect and not real cardinal directions. The correct terms would be of the form "north-northeast" etc. The directions "x by x" refer to the ones even further in between and even then the correct two would be "north by east" and "northeast by north". Colin, you might be able to appreciate this. Dylan Wagner said “My dad likes Long John Silvers”... So I was camping with my wife and her friends this summer, who are about 10 years younger than I (34 years old). When The topic of 311 being my favorite band came up, one f%*king whipper snapper said “My mom likes 311” :::silence::: that hit me pretty hard and has been a constant joke from my wife when I mention 311.

Hodge

I know you’ve said it before, but it makes me happy that you and I share the same feelings for episode 8. That movie fucking sucks.

Re: a trophy that prevented me from getting a Platinum - I couldn’t find 1 out of 350 shards and it drove me nuts at the time. It’s actually the game that broke me from being a trophy hunter, seeing as I didn’t print the maps and use a sharpie to cross out collected shards. https://psnprofiles.com/trophies/99-infamous/Boogieman117

Re: A new PS5-related patent has been filed - I think this could be a cool thing to enhance the existing social network that PlayStation has built into its network. Sadly, that social network is vastly underused and fairly barebones (it feels like Facebook ala early 2010s) so I can see Sony trying to bolster its internal network. Just my thoughts.

Hey Colin and Chris! I saw on Youtube they released a documentary about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order where they detailed the game actually had been in production since 2016 after pivoting from a melee game they had in preproduction in 2014 with Stig (and you can see BTS footage of mocap on that 2016 E3 Conference). Given that, the fact the game came out that janky with that timeline seems kinda unacceptable (and I say that as someone that really loves it overall). Just wanted to give thoughts since you keep mentioning the weird name reveal of E3 2018. Keep the great work!

This was the first time I could somewhat tell that Chris was not local. I think there was some distortion at the beginning due to the internet connection. It could be because I use high end headphones to listen to this podcast and small things like Chris' microphone placement may not have been perfect on this podcast. I love the content though and it is always a fun listen.

That guy who started his letter with C-men [semen] left me in stitches. He deserves more praise for un/intentional double whammy. 😂

Hi Colin, I know the comment from one of the listeners wasn't really the best demonstration of this fact, but the Dutch have overtaken Sweden as the most proficient English speakers in the world, outside the Anglosphere. Keep up the great work. Pete

Listening to your discussion about trophy not triggering due to game bug, I recently experienced this in Death Stranding, where my last trophy for the platinum was the Homo Faber trophy and I just needed to fabricate all weapons/tools/vehicles. I confirmed that I had every item available to fabricate, and I fabricated all of it at one of the stations. The trophy did not pop, and I initially thought it I missed one, or it was because I didn't fabricate the "backpack cover" that can only be fabricated from the private room, but that was not it. Turns out, quite a few members from gamefaqs also experienced this and confirmed it was a glitch where random vehicles you fabricate did not count and you know, because the fabricate menu tells you how many trucks you "own", and it still showed 0 owned. I did what others tried, by jumping to other stations to fabricate everything again hoping trophy will pop, I got very frustrated as it wasn't working, and I was actually running out of materials to fabricate, especially when it was the last trophy, I really don't wanna deliver anymore of those god damn cargoes. On the 6th try, the trophy popped.

Hey Cheeseburger Colin and Bacon Cheeseburger Chris, After hearing listener Corey write in last week about remote play and the hassle on the PlayStation Vita, I wanted to offer a few tips and tricks for the citizens of Vita Island. The most common reason remote play doesn't work properly is if you are connecting your PlayStation Vita directly to the PS4. Yes, that sounds insane but please allow me to explain. The direct connection to the PS4 uses the terrible WiFi connection on the PS4 and unless you are within 10 feet of the PS4 it will not work very well. For optimal performance, have your PS4 equipped with an ethernet cable and make sure "Connect Directly with the PS Vita/PS TV" option is unchecked in the Remote Play Connection Settings on your PS4. Your Vita will find your PS4 perfectly fine over the network and this is essential to having the most enjoyable remote play experience.  Thanks for your continued work on everything CLS and keep fucking that chicken.

LastStandMedia

I've realized the last few shows I've gone to that I'm like, still young for 311 shows. LOL.

LastStandMedia

It's always horrifying when you don't know if you're gonna get a Trophy or not. The worst.

you guys mentioned a bug that would prevent getting the platinum like the chests in fallen order. Put about 100 hours into the assassins creed odyssey platinum only to have the final trophy of getting all 30 or so of the underwater sections cleared glitch out on the final section
