Pawnee, Indiana doesn't actually exist, but after watching Parks & Rec on NBC, many of us wish that it did. That's because Pawnee is full of some of the most hilarious, charming, and ridiculous characters in modern TV history, and their antics offered more accessible and often kind-hearted takes when compared to its far more vulgar and out-of-control sister show The Office. What resulted is something truly memorable, a series full of both character and characters. So let's talk about the sometimes hard-working and often incompetent Pawnee government, all that surrounds it, and have a few laughs along the way. Just don't get Jammed in the process.

Hells yeah, I was just watching Ron Swanson clips.

Super excited for this. I never thought I'd say this until this past year, but I actually love this show more than The Office. Not by a huge margin, but still. Also, Ron Swanson is my spirit animal. The relationships between these really quirky people really got me in the feels. :)

Where do the Moriarty men fall on the Swanson pyramid of greatness?

I'm not listening to this episode until I find myself at a breakfast buffet. Also gives me time to grow my mustache right.

Have you guys thought about doing your favourite childhood stories about each other for Ep100?

Colin you're 2 for 3 on the intro game

Finally, I've been waiting for this episode for so long... I like P&R better than the Office, I find Jim character an asshole and I don't like Michael at all, he's too annoying. Ron Swanson is the best part of P&R

Great episode! As an aside, there’s this really great anime from 1999 about trees that I think you’d really love. It’s about 9,999,991 episodes, but I think it’s worth it once you get into the 48th season and it picks up. Definitely give it a watch some time and do a KnockBack on each episode. 👌

I'm probably one of the few that thinks Parks and Rec is wayyy better than the office. The first season stumbles but every character is charming, and even the town itself can be a character of its own which is something that wasn't talked about. I also just don't personally find crude humor to be that funny at least in a comedy show cause in my opinion that's just low hanging fruit like I could make those. P&R is just much more clever every facet of the show is just oozing with wit and charm where as in the office everyone's just an asshole that gets away with it and sometimes no resolution or growth at the end of any particular episode.

really glanced over Ben Wyatt there huh

The writers have said that they found real life Ron Swansons who share his politics and attitudes during interviews of p&r departments to base the character on.

Audio Question: I notice Dagan sounds odd at times. It went in and out. He sounded cotton-mouthed. I wasn't sure if this was audio or Dagan needed a glass of water haha.

I'm in the camp that Parks and Rec is better than The Office. I’ve seen The Office all the way through about twice and Parks and Rec probably 6-8 times. Dagan helped put into words things I felt without realizing it. The negativity, cringe and bullying of The Office grows tiresome. The show was amazing for the first watch but has little rewatchability for me. Parks and Rec has so many lovable characters. I would say half of The Office cast is throw away for me. They get there 15 seconds to shine from time to time but Parks really highlights their cast often. It feels like a show around 10 people not a show around 2 or 3 with a lot of background characters. Every character has really good arcs and moments that are completely separate from the main plot. To me The Office has 10 Jerrys and Parks has 10 Jims. I could go on and go but I love the show to death. It’s on my TV every single day. It’s the folding laundry show. Glad you guys did an episode on it.

I haven't watched this show in years but have watched all the episodes, Absolutely love a lot of the people on the show. If I can ever pull myself away from doing hundreds of standard orders in death stranding, maybe I'll have time to do something else before December :-) I'm about ready to start snow blowing my football long dirt driveway in the mountains and going to listen to this episode, I am assuming that there's going to be a couple jabs at your dad regarding Ron Swanson in some way...

We have a lil something lined-up for Episode 100, don't you worry your pretty little head.

Hey! To answer your question, there aren't murals where I work, but framed concept drawings of hilariously bad park ideas from city patrons. My personal favorite is "sand world." A park made completely of golf-bunker sand where people feel like they're always walking on the beach. Complete with trails and hills.

Is it weird that Tom Haverford reminds me of Tim Gettys?

This was the best thing to listen to on Thanksgiving!

2022-01-24 07:08:15 Just catching up on this show, and man, just hearing you guys talk about it makes we want to rewatch the series for what seems to be the 10th time. As someone who adores “The Office”, I gotta say that I think I prefer “Parks and Rec”mostly because I think it’s a more consistent show. If you ask what my favorite season of P&R is (excluding Season 1), I don’t I could tell you, because the show is consistently funny and fresh. However, when it comes to The Office, it has its at highs (seasons 2-4 which the show never seems to top) but a lot of lows too ( the last three seasons especially). P&R is absolutely bananas and consistently one upping itself. Also, I gotta say that I absolutely love Derry Murbles, the pretentious host from the NPR like station WVYS. His segment “Thoughts for Thoughts” and the crazy ass jazz music he plays during commercial breaks, has me absolutely dying everything. So good. 😂

Also, on the topic of Chris Pratt- I know you and Dagan don’t watch the MCU movies (which btw I think you guys should because the way Marvel lays out their movies and lore is brilliant, and it’s a blueprint that Star Wars should absolutely mimic), but you guys should absolutely watch Guardians of the Galaxy. These movies are a dark comedy Sci-fi, that has this retro 1970’s aesthetic and vibe that’s incredible (killer soundtrack too) and Chris Pratt is absolutely hysterical in these movies. The Guardians are kind of like the broke-ass version of the Avengers. They’re foul-mouthed, selfish scoundrel types, that find themselves in situations where they hesitantly have to play the role of hero, which is what sets up the comedy so well. These guys are lazy, self-centered and the total opposite of the typical hero Not only are they great action movies but they really leverage Chris Pratt’s and the rest of the casts comedy chops, and it’s incredible...it’s def in line with the type of comedy you and Dagan like. I don’t know if you Dagan have plans to watch the MCU movies, but if you don’t, I would at least urge you to watch the two Galaxy movies. They’re stand alone enough where you can understand what’s going on without having to watch the other films. Would highly recommend
