Capcom's recent resurgence hasn't only been fueled by Street Fighter, Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry, and slick retro collections. Resident Evil -- known as Biohazard in Japan -- has itself been a lynchpin since RE7 shocked us the gaming world early 2017 (not to mention RE2's wonderful remake earlier this year). Now, the Japanese publisher is teasing a new Resident Evil, but it's unclear just what it could be. A mainline entry? Another remake? Or perhaps something else entirely? Let's talk about our hopes and dreams for what's next for Raccoon City and beyond. After that, we delve into the apparent return of Telltale Games, September's surprisingly strong PS+ free games offering, the relaunch of some classic 16-bit Disney platformers, and much more. We then round out our weekly offering, as always, with questions, comments, concerns, thoughts, and ideas from the audience. Will game prices really go up next generation? Does Sony have any intention of playing nice with Stadia? Has 2K gone too far with NBA 2K20's gambling features? Is a Pizza Roll just an Italian Gusher? (That last one made Chris really angry.)

I'm just asking for Nemesis remake. Is it that much to ask Capcom?!!! :D

I love the consistency of your posts. 5pm GMT every time. You time it perfectly for when I get home and sit on the toilet haha.

So much to talk about with this post! Great as always. I liked outbreak but man was that online game way too early they should have waited till ps3/360 when online was good. Not sure how a reimagining would do since they did that umbrella online game that wasn’t good. Carmack on JRE was great he even talks about how valuable crunch is to him, as well as super charging his ferrari lol

James Galos

I listened to JRE and it was a pretty good podcast with Carmack. Him talking about his cars was the best part. Rogan knew a surprising amount about gaming and VR tech. It’s worth a listen if you haven’t yet.

I miss Demos, I miss demo disks from ps1! Nintendo has made finding and playing demos on switch really easy and because I was able to play these demos I've bought games I never would have. And holy crap Colin, my mother says the same thing "if you don't laugh you'll cry" is this a Northeast saying? I've never heard anyone else say it besides my mother and now you

RE Outbreak was very good imo. It’s the survival RE we all love but with three other friends, and if you are bitten, the virus spreads over time and you can only stop it from progressing but you cant get it out of you. Once it reaches 100% you become a zombie and then have to kill your friends. I think they can do a great job with that idea. With that leaked image of 4 people, it can be a Outbreak revamp like RE7 🤔

For the record, at 19 I am definitely too young AND too stupid to understand all the Seinfeld references

Petre Cismigiu

Regarding my question about cyberpunk's character customization, I guess at first I felt this change was just for the sake of being "safe", but in a cyberpunk environment, indeed you are right, it makes a lot of sense. Thanks for opening my eyes a bit on this one =) cheers

I was born in 1991 and love Seinfeld. I felt like it was either that or Friends growing up when I did and most of my friends still to this day don't understand Seinfeld and prefer Friends. Now I'm wondering why I'm even still friends with these people....

Jeremy Miller

Hey Colin, loving all the content lately! I was just wondering with the influx of new patrons have you thought about reading out more questions (say 10) on the show to accommodate the increase in questions being asked? Thanks!

Michael Miller

Great episode, fellas. However I wanted to point out real quick that RE: Outbreak isn’t an arcadey shooter. Outbreak was the story driven online cooperative game for PS2. A sizable chunk of the RE fandom have been clamoring for a sequel or a remake for quite some time.

Jimmy Champane

Great episode as always! I played through Man of Medan in one sitting and I think reviews are being overly harsh. It's a much tighter experience than Until Dawn and while it takes its time getting into the story, once things get going it's actually pretty scary. A lot of the deaths don't feel as cheap as they did in Until Dawn either. For a $30 dollar game I feel like it's been worth every penny.

Anonymous

I would just like to be annoying and reiterate what Michael Miller said. Outbreak is not arcadey.

Love Colin, and on paper, I'm all for the "just dont buy them" argument, but I think my biggest issue isn't that they're there so much as when games are balanced to drag you into purchasing them. Was Playing the Modern Warfare remaster and couldn't BELIEVE how long it took to unlock any single weapon. each gun of worth, required that several other high cost unlocks be purchased previously so instead of unlocking just the gun, you're forced to spend xp points, which come slow af. OR you just spend real money on spinning the wheel to have a better chance at getting the weapon you want. I'm all for things taking a bit to unlock, but the time:unlock ratio in COD was SHIT intentionally to encourage you to buy it. the presence of loot boxes / micro transactions in the game actively and intentionally make the game worse. I'm not worried about protecting children, and yes parents should be a bit more involved with what is being bought and when, and of course, people need to be responsible for what they purchase - ALL of that can be true and it's STILL shitty the way lootboxes/micro transactions are implemented in $60 games. and of course people buy them, but that's hardly a sound argument for them being enjoyable.

Woo new Resident Evil!!!

Big Swingin' Rick

Great show boys. I think regarding shovel knight, DLC packs were stretch goals of the original Kickstarter, so they can't release a sequel until after they have obliged all of those backers with the promised content. My suspicion is that it's almost definitely in development, and probably quite far along, but won't be shown until all the originally promised DLC has been released. Hence the interstitial game.

Hi Colin, just in regards to the Last of Us collectables to hopefully save you some time. A few of them you’ll need to select from the backpack menu, scroll to the bottom of the highlighted collectable, and some even flip over to see the other side in order for the system to count them. Ellie has her own collectables you’ll need to look at from her bag as well. I ran into a similar issue on the remastered version where I thought I had missed one based on the count under stats, but after looking at them individually and flipping over whichever had the option, the trophies popped. Hope this helps, keep up the awesome work!

Colin: If only I was still in Journalism I would be grilling those Stadia guys... Did you see John Carmack was on JRE? Pretty cool that a dev would give some behind-the-scenes insight to their game on a podcast Me: Yeah, cool huh? If only WE KNEW A PODCASTER THAT JUST CANCELLED ONE OF THEIR SHOWS AND NEEDED TO FILL THAT GAP WITH A NEW IDEA

Brent

I recently dropped some serious dough on a new gaming PC. (First time since 2007). I was given a free code for Control with my Nvidia RTX 2070 card. I must say that having been playing exclusively on consoles for the past 6 years, this feels like a sneak peak at the next gen. I’ve been maintaining a fairly buttery 60 FPS with medium settings and Ray tracing effects on high. The ray tracing tech is no joke, I just can’t stop staring at the game.

Carlos Quintanilla

I really don't have a problem with games structured around micro-transactions. I bought Street Fighter V at launch and have spent over $600, over 3 years, in add on content I wanted. Whether that was Capcom's way of monetizing an empty game or not, it was ultimately my decision to support their support of the game. If you think it's BS, don't support it.

Hey Colin, My main point was that overt gambling mechanics shouldn’t be included in a game that is frequently played by children, and is rated for that demographic. I don’t really have a problem with these loot crates and micro transactions if they’re in free to play games, but if you’re asking players to buy in at a $60 entry level... then riddle the game with systems to milk the player base for more money that thrive on making the games feel grindy... Too much. Also, slight correction: NBA 2k20 is rated Everyone not Teen.

Adam Barnes

If you listen to a lot of JRE then you wouldn’t be surprised by his knowledge of gaming and VR. Dude set up a gaming room in his studio months ago

Oliver Johnson

I don't really se what the confusion is with Stadia. The whole point is that there is no console. I have a lot of friends who are casually interested in video games but won't spend $400 on a console. Stadia is a way to sell AAA games to casual consumers. I don't know if that market is ripe enough to invest in but that seems to be the idea. I think the immediacy has some appeal to people too. Watching something on Twitch but you don't want to replay what you've already seen? Just click this button and now YOU'RE the one playing Resident Evil. It is meant as something that appeals to the people that a playstation doesn't. Whether or not that will be successful is different story.

Jeremy Miller

Colin, was the person you unfollowed Boogie?... Blink twice if it was Boogie 😐😑😐

NeO JD

I’ve never seen Seinfeld. I probably will once Hulu gets its shit together. Haven’t played Control yet but the way you guys talked about it reminded me of Days Gone. The PS5 devkit was seemingly confirmed by a dev from Codemasters.

Craig Carter

First person that came to mind when he said that.. I hope he gets better but my gawd if he hasn’t become completely insufferable on social media.. it’s become quite ridiculous

Keep the Seinfeld references coming!

strawhatninja

People should be required to watch Seinfeld for the citizenship test.

Cannonball_Jones

Just to reply to “no one is talking about that fall of 2015” comment in regards to Konami. You should really, really check out this video that lays the whole thing out and just came out a week or two ago “PT’s Hidden Meaning.” https://youtu.be/yr4RvdREwl8

Erk-Prime

I'm hoping to be selected for the new RE game playtest sessions this September in NYC...

Peter Mark

CD Project stated they made the choice for INCLUSIVITY, not staying true to the universe. Had they stated the latter, this would be a non-issue IMO.

Peter Mark

Also, aren't buying baseball/magic/etc cards very similar to loot boxes?

Will Hahn

Just out of curiosity, Colin, Why are you playing TLOU on PS3 if there is the remastered version on PS4?

strawhatninja

I think it's because he has the multiplayer trophies for the PS3 version already

Tyler

I disagree about the new Resident Evil being an Outbreak like-game a bad thing. Those games are actually pretty cool and were a head of its time. The main RE titles I think are safe. Capcom seems to have found their footing in that space. This spin-off can actually be pretty cool seeing how online games have become much more robust compared to when Outbreak 1 and 2 released. As a RE fan I’m excited.

Lucas Gremista

Colin: "I like to keep my visual novels to a 'bear' minimum..." Me, 10 seconds later: "HA!"

LastStandMedia

Thank you! We're consistent. If we're not gonna hit a date or time for some reason, we'll let the audience know ahead of time. If the show doesn't go live and we didn't say anything, assume one of us (or both of us) are dead.

LastStandMedia

Nah. I like the show as-is. I don't want it to be too long and too bloated. We don't shoot for a specific time, but I like being in that 80-100 minute window.

LastStandMedia

Well, I wouldn't deny that it's designed not to take your money. It's designed to annoy you. But people need to speak with their wallets, and -- again -- children shouldn't be playing these games, or have access to the necessary funds to do it. I suppose they aren't finding the right balance, but again, people need to resist and send the only message they actually hear!

LastStandMedia

They did promise those DLC packs, that's true. But they could still do whatever they want. It's taking them way too long.

LastStandMedia

Thanks! I'm about halfway through the game and everything seems to be unlocking so far. I'm playing without a patch and offline.

LastStandMedia

There's no confusion about their intent. There's confusion about the wisdom of their intent.

LastStandMedia

It could be a nice change of pace, but they have a real energy right now within the IP. They need to take advantage of it and be careful they don't ruin goodwill.

Nathan Densley

Sorry I'm late. Been helping my dad floor his house and haven't had time to listen. The dropping me on my head joke in regards to why Final Fantasy VIII is my favourite made me do a spit take my diurectics medication. Funny. Great work as always.

Tyson Williams

I'm 17 and love Seinfeld (and the frequent quality references)

Tyson Williams

Nitrome has been making quality flash/browser games for ages and then moved to mobile where they continue to make some games that shine much brighter than many other mobile games. I really love Nitrome and I'm glad they are getting a shot at making this Shovel Knight spin-off in their own style. Haven't played Bomb Chicken yet though, which is their first console release I believe and the only one that isn't free to play?
