Welcome one and all to the inaugural episode of Sacred Symbols+, our weekly Patreon-exclusive supplement to Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast. As promised, we're going to try to explore some different stuff on this show, in addition to answering tons of your inquiries, expanding on our thoughts on various games and industry issues, and more. But to start out with a bit of a bang, we thought we'd play a little game: Which of us could draft (sports or gym-style) the more compelling first party lineup out of 10 of Sony's biggest fully-owned teams? Hell, we even flipped a coin to see who would go first. We're looking forward to hearing your feedback, and we hope you enjoy the show. Oh, and thank you so much for the kindness and support you've shown us. It means a ton. <3

Great first episode! I got 4 years of SS+ to go through. Listening while I grind out some FFVII Remake Intermission. Sheesh that Media Molecule in 2023 still hasn't done shit. And my poor Japan Studio disintegrated. I want more Gravity Rush 😔

As if we needed even more value for $5. Keep up the good work guys, proud to be a Patron

Wow, now Fridays are great too!

Can’t wait to listen. Downloading now

Just joined this month and I used to listen on Fridays with ads. Was stoked about hearing the show early on Tuesdays but sad about no new episode on Fridays. Prayers answered. Thank you Colin and Chris.

David Graham

You starting a new PlayStation podcast is what finally tipped me over the edge in joining the Patreon. Now this is icing on the cake. Well, figuratively speaking. I find actual icing to be unnecessary.

Will Hahn

Hell to the freaking yes!!

Christian Longo

#keeptuesdays(andfridays)great

Beyond!

Adam Thiry

Unless we are talking chocolate icing. That’s never unnecessary

Anonymous

Heck yeah. Colin, we seriously can't thank you enough for putting up with all the bullshit for us.

Free Chris!

Forrest Hunter

This was a really fun episode! Loved it!

Raymond keys

Yes!! I am very aroused for this! 😂😂😂

Will Hahn

You know what else is great on a hot dog? Mustard 😝

Kyle Goodrich

Funnily, I haven't even turned on my PS4 since a few weeks after RDR2 came out - I'm mainly a PC gamer save for exclusives - but still listen to every sacred symbols and am very excited to dive into this!

Joey Finelli

Is there a way to download this to my phone? I’m getting in a flight

Sacred Symbols+: A Five Guys Podcast

Saulius Vekteris

Podcasts and RPG level grinding, made for each other

Guerilla's success in changing genres in looking a lot better in the wake of Anthem, 76, and the new Wolfenstein. Really hard to do something different.

Anonymous

I would've taken Geurilla first. Lots of people there and can make open world games and fps games.

Richard Duflo

Why did Chris sound like an alien from Mars Attacks at the very end? LOL

Marc Elfering

Awesome kick off episode! ...and hold up, i love Mayo...but on a hot dog???

Great inaugural SS+ episode, although you guys somewhat confusingly disagreed with my picks, even though we had almost the same thoughts. You said I'm underestimating Polyphony even though I had them in my top tier, and I mentioned below the list in my comment that London has great potential and Guerrilla could easily move to top tier. My one pick that I might change after listening is San Diego, since I hadn't considered how cheap they probably are to run. I just threw them in the bottom tier since I've never really seen the MLB games make a splash, but I probably underestimated them.

Kenneth Oms

Colin what you eat scares me lol idk how your heart/body handles that much five guys

Anonymous

Do you realize how amazing it is to come home on a Friday after a VERY long day at work, crack a beer, and settle down to some video games and a fresh episode of Sacred Symbols?!?! Oh, and surprise, I don't even own a PlayStation.

Adrian Pinter

Love when Chris sends secret messages whenever Colin leaves the room.

Zack E

You should put up a poll asking listeners if they could only ever play games made from either of your teams from this moment onwards, which team would they choose I think it’s clearly Chris’s team for me.

Zack E

He did it in I believe one of the E3 episodes as well. I think it’s hilarious

Anonymous

Super excited for this!

Anonymous

You should really use a different intro for the +. Differentiate it from the main show.

Alex Lawrence

Hyped for this inaugural episode of sacred symbols+ (a DLC,) the topic for this podcast was awesome, one of my favorite bits since the e3 madlibs

LastStandMedia

Just thinking about it is making me hungry.

LastStandMedia

I don't know what you're specifically referring to, but for some people's comments (maybe yours?) I only used a fragment. Pithy or death.

LastStandMedia

Different music, you mean? I'd have to get Ramon to make a new track. Seems kind of a lot of work. LOL. I like the shows being associated!

Lucas Gremista

Do we get two free games a month with SS+?

Anthony J Sanchez

This is incredible!!! I'm really happy I pledged!!!

Anonymous

Btw now I'm considering a 75 mile drive to my nearest Five Guys

Anonymous

Thank you for even more quality content guys!

Steve

Even though I’m a naughty dog fan boy.....Chris gets an A+ grade and Colin’s gets an A

Anonymous

I was more entertained by the food talk you guys had at the end than the actual draft. Sacred Eats podcast next? 😏😏

Anonymous

For an upcoming episode you should do a list of studios your would bring back and what you would have them develop.

Anonymous

I think it would be fun idea at the eve of the next gen launch to do a real draft with first and non first party studios. I’m not sure how you could decide on a point system, but maybe sales figures and awards.

Anonymous

Really liked this bonus content! I know you take pride in your podcast editing normally, but I really enjoyed the looseness of this episode. Nice change of pace, it was really fun. P.S. I've been listening to you around 12 years, I had no idea you didn't drive/had no licence.

BM

You guys should do a draft towards the end of the year and pick games launching 2020. Highest combined metacritic + sales wins. Maybe place bets. Also, have Dagan and Sophia be part of the draft.

Anonymous

Great episode but I LIVE for those random conversations you guys have I loved the end portion about food 😂👏👏👏

Anonymous

Great first episode! It didn't show up on my RSS feed in Pocket Casts though, had to listen on Patreon. Did that happen for anyone else?

Marcus Brown

Great 1st episode! I personally would've drafted Naughty Dog 1st as well seeing how they're the 'Rockstar' of Playstation in terms of every game being an event and always delivering. Till next time.

Greg Horsman

Happening for me. Still hasn't shown up. Had this happen once before but it showed up like 6 hours later.

Monterey Jack

Liked the episode a lot, nice supplementary content. When you guys eventually do the next draft, I think that it would be interesting if criteria of the draft was indicated such as revenue, most copies sold, gameplay diversity, etc. Looking forward to future "plus" episodes =)

Tyler R.

Colin’s team won. Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch are definitely my 1 and 2. Guerrilla is a clear 3rd and Santa Monica and Japan 4/5. Awesome content, thank you for making Friday’s even better (since Tuesday’s have been for some time) for those of us that work a 9-5 M-F!

Daniel Schiffer

This was exactly what I imagined for SS+. Great first episode and love the idea for the unlimited draft. My vote goes to Colins Draft. Also I went to Europe for a month and the best meal I had was Five Guys...

Joey Rawlings

I’m just waiting for the eventual “this weeks episode is sponsored by Five Guys” in the style of the Game Scoop intro. ❤️ Daemon.

Perfect platypus

Was a great episode and even better was a excellent start to plus! Loved the draft so pleased it was saved and used after the pax BS. Also loved the food chat at the end another example of what good friends you are and how well you work together. Great work, thank you

NeO JD

Chris choosing Polyphony 3rd was a shocker. He’s a strange kiddo

Caleb Bean

Great start to SS+ gents!!!! I personally would’ve snagged Guerilla first pick, just to bet on the bright future ahead of them at this point. Horizon was a truly great experience and that exciting future, mixed with the proven consistency of Killzone, would make them a top choice for me but I’m also a NY Giants fan so idk even trust myself anymore lol keep it up guys!!!

Kevin Sullivan

This is shaping up to be a solid listen on a weekly basis. I appreciate you for flipping a real world coin instead of just simulating it.

Ryan Hughes

Hey Colin and Chris. I have an idea. Now that you have made the draft. I think it would be fun to (hopefully) come back to the draft near the end (over even half way) through the ps5 life cycle. Tally up the sales/money made from each studio selected and see who made the right pick. What do you think??!

Sam

Great episode! This kind of granular nerdiness is what I come to Colin for. Also, Chris - it's ok, we're sending help. Sit tight.

Brett Carlson

Hey Colin did you mean ardent as in we are a passionate fanbase, or did you mean the literary definition that we are burning......like in hell. I feel like you mean the former lmao.

Brett Carlson

Wow Colin great fucking pick with San Diego. MLB The Show is the most UNDERRATED first party game for a long time. I understand it's a sports game, but The Show has been the best sports games for many years. By far the best sports game. This is a critical game for us Playstation fans. Every year I hear people complain how Madden is always the same game. San Diego improved the game EVERY YEAR. Its remarkable and I believe they deserve some more credit for their consistency.

LastStandMedia

Thanks! Dustin does all the editing now, so whatever stays in or out is generally up to him.

Prince Borutski

I'll be honnest. The topic for ep. 1 did not grab my attention at first. However, I quite enjoyed listening to it. I thought that the deep analysis of each of the studios was incredibly informative. 👍

Anonymous

Colin thanks for all your praises and respect for Sony San Diego. MLB The Show is THE reason that I bought my ps3, psp, ps4, and vita. Before I ever played this game I liked baseball, but now I LOVE it! Anyone interested needs to make sure to use the operation sports rosters. MLB only allows players to be in the game after they have played a MLB level game but the people at OS make a 90-man roster for all 30 teams with proper attributes and likenesses. The create a player and work your way to the pros (Road to the Show) works better for this game than any other sports game because the minors are so important for MLB.

I loved this episode. My kids and I still play the Puppeteer, such a unique game design. Maybe one day they'll remake it in Dreams... Just a suggestion for another drafting episode, it would be wild to hear a third (or fourth) voice throwing wrenches into your draft boards. Perhaps a CLS/ Chris Ray Gun crossover where you have Dagan and Tom Sweeny picking as well (or Sophia and Dustin). I will say that when I tried to Mel Kiper your boards, I failed. I lot of good stuff and interesting dialogue in this episode and I can't wait for tomorrow's SS+.

Benjamin

@richard Jones Jr. puppeteer would also be a perfect game to recreate in vr. the game looks amazing.

Tyler Ryan

Just listened. It appears GT Sport has sold approx. 8 mil copies. So not as well as previous games in the series (other than 6 which sold 5+ mil) but not terrible for a 4 year dev cycle.

Anonymous

Well gonna have to do another one of these now lol Insomniac FTW!!

Dank Yharnam Nugz

Got through to the end of the line up and took a break to check out gamescom. Geoff announces onstage that Sony bought Insomniac! Surely that changes the lineup?
