SEGA never stops trying to make Sonic the Hedgehog relevant again. Indeed, the storied games publisher even announced a foray into feature films some months ago. But now, that mere announcement has been given life and motion, and... well... the results are highly disturbing. But with the filmmakers' decision to heed fans' calls for design changes, have we reached Peak Entitlement? Let's chat about it. Plus: Sony reveals perhaps the most disappointing lineup of free PlayStation Plus games yet, Dreams is getting its first big update, Rage 2 is ready for launch, and Bloodstained finally has a release date. And what's that, you say? You have some input, too?! Why, of course you do, listener! So let's take your inquiries, per usual, touching on topics like the publisher-developer relationship, how to (maybe?) not support crunch in game dev, and the reinvigoration of the single-player FPS genre.

"that's a good stuff" - Colin Moriarty

Marcus Brown

I very much enjoyed the Sonic trailer and model🤷‍♂️ Mabye I'm a monster?

Jimmy Champane

Great episode! I've stuck with Fallout 76 to the point that it's my most played game this year at over 100 hours. I took a break from it after launch because it was broken but I came back in February because instead of pushing out content that wasn’t ready, Bethesda delayed it and legitimately fixed the core game. I wouldn’t necessarily call it bug free at this point, but it’s definitely in as good, if not better shape technically than Fallout 4 which is fine with me. They’ve also been updating it with new, free content every two weeks for the past couple months and most of it has been really good. There’s a full mystery quest line leading up to a Legendary cryptid called the Sheepsquatch, alcohol brewing and a camera to make photo mode easier. Today’s content drop is the biggest yet adding in a new faction questline, craftable backpacks to increase carry weight, player vending machines and more small stuff. The game’s not perfect, but at this point I’d go so far as to call it great and I think it’s a good example of what can happen if publishers stick with their products instead of abandoning them. Just thought I would share since you guys talked about Fallout 76 and Anthem for a bit.

Great episode and thanks for reading my question! I actually disagree with your stance on guest hosts. I think most of us have followed you for years and are familiar with people like David Jaffe, Alexa Ray, or Lorne Lanning, industry vets you have talked to on air before who can offer great perspective and fit in smoothly since we're familiar with them. Not saying there should be a 3rd guest host every week, but two or three times a year wouldn't be too bad. Just my 2 cents.

Jimmy Valentine

Publix Subs, which they don't have in the Northeast or West Coast, is the SSS tier. The chicken tender sub is heaven.

Daniel

I bought a $55 used copy of Halo 5 because of how mad I was about the broken Master Chief Collection and wanted to make sure none of my money was going to 343.

Michael Miller

All the bullshit before the podcast officially starts is my favorite.

The best episode so far!!!!!!

LastStandMedia

I'm glad you're enjoying it. I think that's an important component of our show: If you like something, more power to you.

LastStandMedia

Your input is perfectly valid. Every guest idea you mentioned is 100% doable. But I want the core show to remain Chris and I.

Forrest Hunter

I love when you guys dick around for the first 10 minutes, haha.

Forrest Hunter

Holy shit you went on for another 7 mins about fast food. I fucking love you guys.

New Patron happy to be here guys love your show. I have a question for Chris is this where I ask it or is there another feature on patreon? I’m new to the platform please let me know. Thanks

Brandon Soto

I really hope Infamous comes back for PS5. If not Sucker Punch, I hope a good developer makes the game.

Brandon Soto

To rally off Chris’s point about McDonalds; I’m 26 as well, and growing up eating McDonald’s, it was always terrible, no matter which restaurant. However, since they’ve changed their ground beef, and now serve everything fresh, it’s actually pretty damn good.

Ivan Hornett

Really enjoy the new credits. You and Chris should take turns reading them. Reminds me of the old Nickelodeon thing to write to them “New York, New York” Reading them live each time would give some life to them too! Anyway, till tomorrows drop.

Timothy Bryant

Whenever they are taking questions for a new episode or anything like that they will post a separate thread. So for instance if you have a question for the next episode of sacred symbols. Check back Friday at noon eastern standard time and Colin will post a thread for questions

Jason Bolla

Ooooh new closer. Sounds good.

LastStandMedia

Timothy beat me to it (which I appreciate). New threads each Friday. Post there to your heart's content!

LastStandMedia

That's a nice idea, but honestly, this is just a way for us to streamline production. I primarily wanted to change it to give Dustin credit and to shoutout social handles, etc.

Hey Col, just a reminder for the Borderlands plat: some trophies are tied to coop. I agree with Chris on the look of Sonic not being enough to save that movie. Worst free games ever? Colin, you’re BUGGING. I agree that PS+ has had bad months for a long time now but I respect this month’s games and actually bought both previously. In terms of the games industry question, I’ll say this: 1 of the trends Twitter used to highlight for me was tweets by people in the industry. After a while, I had to turn it off because it was just too negative. Interesting that the listener brought up COD WW2, I actually liked that campaign. Part of the reason I love Borderlands 3 coming out is because their over the top style is refreshing in terms of first person shooters.

Caleb Peacock

Had to stop the podcast cause I was disgusted how hard Chris disrespected McDonald’s. Worse than BK? McDonald’s has stepped the fuck up and try their double quarter pounder and tell me that’s worse than a whopper. I dare you to lie through your teeth

NeO JD

Could try killing 2 birds with 1 stone: Do a let’s play recording with Chris and a friend to get them. Colin’s return to coop or something. lol

Jonathan Broussard

I would enjoy this. Each start up and you would be able to knock out alot of the co-op trophies with doing that.

DB Cooper

I agree with you and Chris about BTS/EPK stuff for games. I think it'd be great if there was some "special features" thrown in to certain games like films have. Looking forward to that GoW doc especially.

Luke Bernhard

on the subject of astigmatism, it would be like saying "you have a cancer"

Luke Bernhard

Also - you should do a fireside with someone about nuclear power. By far the safest and least pollutant form of energy production out there right now. People just afraid of it because of the sensationalized accidents that have occurred in shittily run facilities.

Jason Stafford

I've actually been having a problem since they changed the beef. My local McDonalds doesn't cook them done enough for me. I can't handle a fast food burger that's pink in the middle. Steak, just knock the feet off and wipe it's ass, but not burger.

Jason Stafford

I'm starting to think fast food quality is on a town by town basis. Where I live in Rome, Ga all of the fast food is terrible. It's like no one gives a damn, but 14 miles away on I-75 there's a little nothing town called Adairsville that has the best fast food I've ever eaten. Their Burger King, McDonald's, Taco Bell, and Wendy's are all top notch. It blows my mind.

LastStandMedia

Funny you should say that, because I was talking to a guy from a nuclear power plant, but we couldn't work it out for some reason (I don't really recall why).

2022-01-24 10:02:11 Just curious, Colin~ In the midst of this slew of "annualized" IPs from pre-est. franchises, i was curious to wat u think about this Hollywood vacuum that is, for the most part, devoid of any real creativity? TL;DR Do u feel Hollywood is nothing more than just MCU movies, polarizing Star Wars films, failed attempts @ video game adaptations, & rehashes of older IPs e.g. Ghostbusters?

Kinda. But making a commercially viable game is far easier, cheaper, and more straight-forward than making a commercially viable film. So there's a lot more room to explore, and thankfully there are people in the cracks making all sorts of off-kilter, smaller, zanier, and interesting stuff that exists in between the AAA fare.

Weldon

Thanks for educating me more on the video game development process - didn't think there was that much of a difference between the production budgets for the two different mediums. Btw I remember you saying way back before you founded CLS when you were still a part of KF that the talent nowadays is in television, not film, and it could not be more evident. Lowkey miss your contrarian takes on popular entertainment haha ~Always a pleasure to hear your opinions, Colin! Keep up the amazing work!!!
