In the early-to-mid '80s, Michael J. Fox was a household name because of his work on Family Ties, the beloved American sitcom. But by 1985, Fox was catapulted even further into the stratosphere by Back to the Future, a film about time travel, and the unexpected -- and often fun and zany -- results of utilizing such advanced technology. Today's episode of KnockBack is dedicated not only to the original Back to the Future, but to its two sequels, as well, and was voted on by Colin's Last Stand's Patrons. Is your Flux Capacitor ready? We sure hope so. We just ask that you stop saying "gigawatt" incorrectly.

This and The Mall episode are my two most anticipated episodes. I can't wait to jump into this!

Jason Stafford

Baffling how people will let "jigawatt" slide for "gigawatt" but lose their minds when someone says "jif" instead of "gif". LOL

Will Hahn

Back to the future 2 > Back to the future

Tony Colton

I always assumed that Jigawatt was a fictional number that was supposed to be bigger than a Gigawatt?

I remember going to the video store w/ my dad & always asking to rent the Delorean movie. I don't even think I knew there were two more movies at 1st. Being younger I leaned towards 3 being my favorite, maybe cause of the cowboys & trains, but lately I'm torn between 1 & 2. Can't wait to hear your thoughts guys!

Jason Stafford

Loved these movies as a kid, and that damn Toyota truck Marty gets at the end was a thing of beauty back then! Part 2 was sooooo much darker than the other two movies, it really raised the stakes.

Yay!!!! Been stoked for this one

Not gonna lie, totally didn't think through how disastrous going that far back could be until Colin brought it up. Me: "Fuck it, I'm going to the Italian Renaissance!" Colin: "Going that far back compounds the possibilities of screwing the future up and having it be unrecognizable." Me: *Thinks through the inevitable catastrophic consequences - Anxiety starts building at my desk* OR, someone already has gone back to the Renaissance, and that's what Da Vinci's flying device sketches were about and (our) alternate timeline was created... LOL

Awesome, I normally wait for the free feeds for this show but this week I'll be listening right away.

Fun Fact: Something similar happened with the filming of Spider-Man 2. Jake Gyllenhaal was originally gonna play the role due to Tobey getting a injury during the filming of Seabiscuit. They actually filmed a few scenes until Tobey miraculously recovered and was cleared to continue on the physically demanding role leaving Jake out to dry.

Why wait if you pay for it?! You know you can feed these episodes via RSS into a service of your choice, right...?

Ford tried to get them to use a Mustang as the time machine, they said "Doc Brown doesn't drive a fucking mustang"

Jason Stafford

Your statement about Marty's dad, and how you can't stand to see people picked on meant a lot to me. I was never quite as dorky as George McFly, but I've been picked on like him my whole life, so i totally get how watching that treatment is uncomfortable. You're a good dude Colin Moriarty.

Kevin Spacey was replaced by Christopher Plummer in the recent movie All the Money in the World. They reshot the scenes with Plummer just a month before the release of the film. So that’s an example of such an occurrence.

Another side note : on the Blu-ray for Back to the Future 3, one of the special features is the video of the Back to the Future ride, it's pretty dope

Tyson Williams

I don’t understand the fandom around back to the future or ghostbusters either, I fucking love the first movie of both of them but still strange that there’s like a culture surrounding them. Also we should rename Knockback to You’ve Got Mail Fan Podcast or maybe name it after some obscure reference from the movie. Edit: your Marty impression was great

Hans Zimmer does Chris Nolan’s soundtracks, Hans also did The Gladiator, Man of Steel, Black Hawk Down, Da Vinci Code, Kung Fu Panda, Sherlock Holmes, The Last Samurai, Blade Runner 2049, Pirates of the Caribbean, Megamind

One theory I like that I’ve seen floating around through the years.... in the new timeline, Marty’s parents realized later in life it was their son that they saw in the 50s.

Really enjoyed this one, guys. I’m in your camp, Colin, in that I liked Back to the Future but never totally understood the “fandom.” Laughed out loud at Dagan’s “flinging French toast like a frisbee” comment! -Cody

Tony Colton

I could see this franchise being revisited in the not too distant future.

Ryan Harvey

Thinking about any time I would see in the past as y of u guys discussed it would be golden age Egypt no doubt. See the pyramids brand new! Could you imagine?

Ryan Harvey

Idk why it changed you into y of u but.... wanted to say sounds awesome seeing you become closer to your bro. My older sister was so much older. I need to reconnect with her now that I'm much older now as well!

Hey col just letting you know I did see one of the pink hover boards that Mattel made at mega con in Orlando once still in the box
