A few days ago, cell phone footage of a new, triple-A Harry Potter game (purportedly an open world RPG) was leaked, giving us a glimpse into what the popular franchise could look like on current-gen (and possibly even next-gen) consoles. But this week's news doesn't stop there. All signs are pointing to PSN name changing possibly happening very soon, Skybound Entertainment swooped in to save the Telltale Walking Dead franchise, Killzone's revival is looking mighty likely, The Witcher's author is suing CD Projekt Red, Symphony of the Night's PS4 release may disappoint Castlevania purists, and much, much more. Of course, we sprinkle a couple dozen of your questions, comments, and concerns in there, too. So keep it locked: We've much to discuss. Much to discuss, indeed.

Best Sacred Symbols title ever!

Tony Palylyk

Thanks for answering my question and you didn't even butcher my last name. Well done! ;)

Kenneth Oms

nothing makes me happier then getting the email notification that's like "EARLY ACCESS SACRE-" and thats where i stop reading before jumping in!

Jonah Gespacho

Everyone, be prepared. I can now finally be BongBro420. Rejoice.

tejotl

Really getting used to those Patreon perks 😂 (not the app though - it is trash)

Kenneth Oms

also, Col in terms of your algorithm issue, i have a infographic of all the SEO ranking signals for youtube you can check it out and see what works, its kinda outdated but it lets you grasp some things. I do SEO for a tech company, so i know some of how youtube works, but it often feels like they're updates are breaking more than fixing, and that goes for Google search as well.

John the Nabo

Havent heard it yet, just read the subjuects discussed today and im fucking exited.

Owen

When are we getting a Sacred Symbols shirt? Saw my PSILY XOXO shirt in the closet and I realized we need a new shirt.

Owen

If someone told me I would never eat ice cream again... Im not sure how I would react.

There’s No I in LLC

Yeah its not a big deal to leak things unless its rockstar because they will fuckin find you!!!

John the Nabo

Well, as someone with a lame username i do want it changed. Im frustrated becaus PS is the only plataform that I play in, do hope this happens soon enough. LETS CHANGE THE SUBJECT NOW GODDAMN

Richard Duflo

Congrats, Colin! You might be the first person to pronounce my last name correctly without having heard it first

Gabriel Garcia

I have yet to listen to this episode but I really wanna give a shout-out to you on these super detailed (probably to an unnecessary level of detail but very appreciated) timestamps for every episode. Just the amount of work it takes to listen to it all, encapsulating that particular conversation and recording the time. It's the little things, Colin, and it doesn't go unnoticed. Keep it up man :)

Gabriel Garcia

Also I think you should always read the drop! If it takes the entire episode to read over 100 games, so be it.

Good ep! When funny games were brought up, I immediately thought of Conker's Bad Fur Day. Great game

Show Puss In Book is coming to Pornhub Interactive, it’s being developed by former Telltale employees, true story. Of course it’s an open world rpg, what other kinds of games are there??

Michael Candelaria

Konami did the same thing with the Silent Hill Collection (which contains Silent Hill 2 and 3) that came out many years ago. The voice acting was completely different and they sighted rights to the voices as the reason for the change at the time. There was so much hub bub about it from fans that they went back and relicensed the original audio for 2 but not 3. That actually stopped me from buying the collection, and those first three silent hill games are some of my favorite games of all time.

Michael Candelaria

Another follow up, Duke is in Bulletstorm Full Clip Edition. I think a more story driven Duke game could be funny. Think a Demolition Man type fish out of water story. A guy that says the things Duke says and is looked at like he's completely out of touch, but since he is good at what he does (killing aliem scum) the surrounding characters have to deal with him, and in the end realize he's just "misunderstood"

"Can you think of a desert worse than Jell-O?" You, sir, have obviously never had Jell-O shots.

Korey Burns

Just want to confirm that I had trouble finding your recent CLS Side Quest video in my YouTube feed. Thankfully, I remembered I got an email about it, and was able to find it that way. YouTube has gotten worse with showing you new content from people you subscribe to first.

To your point about wanting to know what happen in the world of The Walking Dead they came out with a prequel series that was suppose to be about the origin of the outbreak. I dont know much about it aside from the fact it exists.

hugplx

For years you've been wondering what the hell Dreams is, who it's for and the very point of its existence. I feel this episode answered that, conclusively. Dreams is the vessel that'll allow you to make the Megaman movie we all deserve. You don't even need to make the art, you can outsource or just steal it from people that'll no doubt make the models themselves. Heck, you could probably just write the script and get your fans to do it. As you're so fond of saying, 'it's time to shit or get off the pot' lol! I'm not sure I'm ready for Wednesday to be made great next week.

Colin always forcin the "P" out

I just finished the first book in “The Expanse” and I’m loving it so far. I’m about to start the first novella. Show is great too.

LastStandMedia

The app is terrible. Patreon knows that I think the app is terrible. That's about the best I can do, unfortunately. =\

LastStandMedia

I hoped to have this under control by now, but truth be told, I can't find the time to properly pursue merch. I just dunno when it's gonna get done at this point. I have next to zero free time.

LastStandMedia

Hopefully the next time we speak about it is when Sony either makes an official announcement, or it just appears one day on PSN.

LastStandMedia

You're welcome. I spend ~5 hours editing each episode, so I just keep notes as I go. No big deal. =)

LastStandMedia

Could be cool, but I doubt it'd happen in this climate. Who would develop it? (Gearbox would obviously publish it.)

LastStandMedia

I didn't even know voice acting had rights associated with it. That said, I think, with Castlevania, Konami simply thought the compressed, old VO recorded in 1996 isn't any good. They're right. It's terrible quality based on a bad translation. But it's still awesome.

LastStandMedia

The show is awesome. I'm still early in the first book. Not much time to read, unfortunately.

Started Hollow Knight yesterday. Loving it so far. The rabbit hole the keeps on giving! Definitely has potential to compete with Salt & Sanctuary for my goty (as played, not released).

Phillip Guglielmo

Colin, I'd be lying if I said part of my motivation for getting involved in the questions isn't to have a laugh while you battle with my name (and now Chris too!). I absolutely love it, and don't worry, I'm used to it. Thanks for answering my question - game preservation is so important, and I take no issue with QOL upgrades and some gameplay changes. However, I firmly believe these culturally significant games beautifully represent the time and place in which they're created and that full experience shouldn't be trapped on obsolete hardware.

Tyson Williams

Never forget “jjhill sandwhichh”. I like it when remakes or ports have a new version of something but allow the option to revert back to the original. Like the Wonder Boy remakes have entirely remastered soundtracks and sound effects along with entirely hand painted recreations of all the levels, but if you click L3 or R3 you can quickly swap between graphics and sounds from the original and the new version. Although it may not be as simple for something with 3d animation and detailed environments swapping to the original audio and animation and environments. For something like SotN it seems like they could have the original voiceovers and the new ones with the default being the new ones. For something like Resident Evil I wish they would have something where you unlock the original cutscene to watch at any time after getting to the part in the game where you see the remade version of that cutscene. Like how some guys allow you to rewatch cutscenes, you could rewatch the cutscenes and the original ones, maybe some original concept art and promotional art and music sorta like what was in the Megaman Legacy Collections.

Daniel Schiffer

Colin! I'd love to see what you think about that Warhammer Tactics game. I'm a huge 40k fan and would be interested to see what you think! ...... Also in my experience a lot of educational games I've played / seen being designed are usually a textbook dressed up as a game. They get the educational facts first and make a game second to that. When they should work in tandem or the other way around. Let the design teach us!

Dan Parsons

Good episode! RE: Digital games is buying the licence, physical games are exactly the same. You are still buying a licence not the game itself.

Andrew Tamagni

Colin, enjoyed your quick thoughts on Hollow Knight. I'm about 12 hours in myself and the first part was pretty easy so you weren't wrong on initial impressions...it soon ramps up though. The more I play the more I see why so many people like it. I'm going to reserve judgment on whether it's the best in the genre until I've played SotN when it comes out later this month...but I find there is often bias towards more recent games when making those sort of calls. Just look at most top 100 lists currently for evidence of that. Keep up the great work...that goes for Chris too!

Adrian Pinter

Another great episode. Love how the chemistry between Chris and yourself has grown over the course of 15 weeks. Can't wait for next week. Much love.

Marcus Brown

Great show! I'm definitely extremely hyped for RDR2 and looking forward to a review! Maybe a spoiler cast? Like Chris I love Splinter Cell. I was really bummed that they didn't announce it at Ubisoft's E3. It's what got me into my favorite genre in stealth. Can't wait till next week. MTGA

Jimmy Valentine

Colin and anyone else interested, I'd recommend using this list to read the expanse. <a href="http://www.howtoread.me/the-expanse-reading-order/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.howtoread.me/the-expanse-reading-order/</a> I've read through the first four books and all novellas leading up to the fifth book in the past four months. The series is really good. The short story describing how they travel through space at an accelerated rate is also really good. <a href="https://www.syfy.com/theexpanse/drive/prequel.php" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.syfy.com/theexpanse/drive/prequel.php</a> I still have that SpaceX shirt coming your way as well Colin! 👍

Jimmy Valentine

I first read your comment as having R2-D2. LOL. I was going to say....there is a game coming out?! 😁

LastStandMedia

I played Salt &amp; Sanctuary very, very briefly. It didn't click with me, for some reason.

LastStandMedia

Yeah, it'd be wise (and prudent) to give gamers that option, when they can. Clearly, Konami ain't putting in a ton of work.

LastStandMedia

I'm pretty much certain we'll do a spoilercast for RDR2, but we gotta see how the cards fall.

Petre Cismigiu

I think this was the funniest episode of SS and that's no small feat. Thank you for the hours of entertainment, gentlemen.

Jeshua Anderson

SOFTWARE ETC. YES!! THANK YOU CHRIS!! THAT'S the name of the store where i used to browse video games when I was a kid before Gamestop, EB and Funco land! I thought I'd never recall the name. Give Chris a big sloppy kiss next week on air for me! ...pinch his nipple too. Thanks.

As crossplay has been mentioned a few weeks running now theres something I’ve been thinking has gone under the radar with this issue. If we take for example Sonys exclusivity deal with Destiny which gets players weapons and armour which is only available on Sony platforms, how would this issue work when using cross play. If my main weapon was a somy exclusive weapon and I logged into my xbox how would this even work? People would be pretty bummed to be unable to use their main weapon but obviously the exclusive deal would have to stop it being used in other platforms. This would surely apply to all manner of current ‘games as a service’ who depend on some sort of platform specific deal. Just something I had thought of during the debate and hadnt heard anyone mention it.

LastStandMedia

I think your stance is a bit nebulous. Whether or not you're buying a license technically with a physical game, it doesn't really matter. You own it, and you can do whatever you want with it. It's relevant to the argument.

LastStandMedia

I'm right near the end, but I haven't played in a few days. I gotta rectify that, hopefully tonight. I've just got so much on my god damn plate! Thank you for your kind words. =)

Anonymous

I'd guess this is one of the non-technical reasons crossplay is such a sticky point for Sony. As the go to console for this generation, they probably have more of these exclusivity deals than the competition, which makes it easier for Microsoft and Nintendo to commit to crossplay. Would also stack up against the comment they would always give, which was all about Playstation being the best place to play these games.

Brandon Reed

I binged every single god damn episode of this show and now I have nothing to listen to... guess I gotta check out KnockBack, Side Quests, and Fireside Chats!

That black guy

Oooh, just got around to listening to this show and as a Killzone fan, I'm happy they're going back to their roots by bringing on Siege's guys . If you don't know what I mean, back in Killzone 1 they actually experimented with the idea of proto-hero shooters elements with the 4 playable characters (Jan Templar, Rico, Hakha and Shadow Marshal Luger) who had different stats and special weapons/ firing modes unique to them (except Templar, he was Jack of all stats and had no special items) . So bringing on the guys who made siege what it was fits perfectly with that ides . I'm particularly interested to see where this takes the franchise and if they'll try and what the new story brings(maybe we'll finally find out what happened with Hakha &amp; Luger between Killzone liberation and shadow fall) . P. s. Colin, you may not remember but back in the Podcast beyond days around the time of Killzone 3's release I actually sent an email to the show pointing out how Rico is an interesting character choice, writing wise. As it's a character that is your designated buddy character but keeps doing things that will make you hate him &amp; he is an overt racist. However, he's the only back up you got 80%+ of the time in Killzone 2 &amp; 3 . It's a weirdly compelling element that's always kind of endeared me to killzone.

That black guy

On megaman live action: take the Astroboy film from a few years ago but give it the megaman twist. Like instead of the son dying its Light's wife and so in her memory he builds Rock and Roll and Wily was a colleague and helped him build the city and then Wily seemingly loses it and causes events similar to megaman powered up to happen .

Anonymous

Hey Colin/Chris...loving the show. You guys do a great job keeping things concise but still injecting the conversation with some unique humor and personality. Anyway was just listening to the latest episode and the possibility of a new shooter from Guerrilla Games. As a big Killzone fan I’d love to see something new from that franchise. But during the discussion a thought crossed my mind specifically in reference to the hiring of the former Rainbow Six Siege developers. Instead of breathing new life into Killzone, what if Sony was actually bringing back SOCOM? With Zipper Interactive, the franchises’ original developer, long since shuttered could Sony have passed the IP to GG with the hopes of bringing an exclusive tactical shooter to PlayStation fans. There is no denying Siege evolved into a mega hit for Ubisoft and with the success of PS4 growing the Sony playerbase to stellar numbers it seems like the perfect time to introduce some thing like this. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks and keep up the amazing content!

Zach Brown

I can't believe it - I was listening to this episode while writing lesson plans, and the listener's question about using video games in education came up. In my 10th grade English class, I always discuss Bioshock when introducing Anthem. Lo and behold, Colin, it's exactly the example you use as well. Great minds, huh?

Marc Boggio

I’m 99% certain that Space Hulk is Warhammer 40k - kind of like how Vermintide is Warhammer.

Bobby Bell

".... more like 'Kingdom Farts'" lmao

LastStandMedia

The original Killzone is (I believe) the only one I never played, though I did play it at an event once, when it was ported to PS3. I do indeed hope that the Siege guys going to Guerrilla is proof that Killzone is coming, just as we knew for years, without confirmation, that the team was working on an open world RPG through their hiring, even if they never confirmed it. So, here's hoping!

LastStandMedia

I truly don't believe Mega Man should ever be live action. It just doesn't seem or feel right.

LastStandMedia

That's very interesting, especially because I think SOCOM has a place in today's gaming landscape, particularly on PS4. You've given me something to ponder. =)

That black guy

Yep it doesn't but if you're gonna do it, try your best to make it work as possible.
