NOTE: These episodes have all been recorded. Keep your powder dry for next time! <3

Hey All,

Pretty much the only reason I announced CLS: KnockBack before having an episode to air is because I want listener contributions to be a significant portion of the show. Dagan just arrived in Santa Monica, and we're gonna go get some food and settle in, but in the meantime, I wanted to throw this thread up to solicit your questions and comments (and concerns, I suppose!).

Below, you'll find the eight topics for the episodes we're going to record:

  • The Empire Strikes Back
  • Ranking the Nintendo Consoles
  • The Retro Gaming Scene
  • The Best War Movies
  • The Twilight Zone
  • When Anime Was Underground
  • The Most Underrated NES Games
  • GI Joe

Do you have any questions about any of these topics? Comments? Memories? Things you want to say? Let us know in the comments below, and we'll integrate as much of your feedback as possible in each applicable episode.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Definitely need to hear about how anime went from underground to mainstream in the last 20 years.

Evan Bederman

Follow-up question to best war movie: what's the best war movie about a fictional war? Science fiction or otherwise? In terms of their genre or in terms of traditional war movies?

Michael Ferrari

What do you guys think of the Nintendo 64 controller? I hear a lot of people complain about it, but as bizarre as it was/is, I thought it was incredibly comfortable, and at the time I really enjoyed using it.

Brett Medlock

Have there been any video games that deeply affected how you think or feel about something in real life?

TheBufferPiece

Empire Strikes Back vs The Last Jedi. Is TLJ a modern version of ESB? Or can you not really compare them.

Anonymous

What was your first introduction to anime?

Anonymous

Do you think some of the retro games are considered so good due to nostalgia?

Christopher Hopkins

How much does inherent nostalgia play in ranking classic systems? For instance the N64 is my favorite but it was honestly outclassed by the SNES and probably the NES but I have the most memories on the N64 because of 4 player and games with my 2 brothers and sister like goldeneye, no mercy, perfect dark, Mario party etc.

Anonymous

Favorite games for each of the Nintendo consoles and why you like them. What type of game (platformer, FPS, etc) shined the most on each console.

Fred Bence

I could listen to you guys talk about start wars for hours, but if Dagan is a music fan, I would love to hear you guys talk about important music to you two from the 80s and 90s growing up

Anonymous

On the topic of war movies, have you both seen Full Metal Jacket and what are your thoughts? Unlike many movies in this category it was a hard critique of the US. I remember finishing the movie and just being scared, war is truly hell.

Fred Bence

Or some 80s and 90s crushes...whats up Kelly kapowski? Haha

How will the retro gaming scene evolve as older hardware and physical media start to fail? Do we need to start taking game preservation more seriously? Also how will retro gaming look in 20 to 30 years?

Bryan Finck

good call, would love y'all to rank the controllers during this discussion too.

Nathanael Haller

As a huge Star Wars fan and altogether movie lover (studying film at Georgi State University now), Empire Strikes Back is my favorite movie of all-time. At 23, I’ve noticed not many people my age can grasp why this movie is so much more powerful than the newer movies (which I also love), solely because it “looks bad”. When have this conversation, I tend to tell them to rewatch it and look at two scenes. The first is when Yoda teaches Luke a valuable lesson about the Force when he pulls the X-Wing out of the swamp on Dagobah. The other is the entire duel between Luke and Vader. These scenes resonate with me more than any other film has since, and are some of the main reasons I want to have a career in film. Anyway, I wanted to know... What is/are your favorite scene(s) in Empire and why do they hold that title for you?

Anonymous

Please remember the TurboGrafx/Duo in your Retro Gaming Scene coverage... Under rated console IMHO.

Anonymous

When ranking the Nintendo consoles I hope you rank the handhelds as well.

Bryan Finck

As part of the retro gaming show, what game genres that have disappeared or become less prevalent over the years that you miss?

Bryan Finck

For the GI Joe show, discuss what was the best action figure in the line.

Anonymous

How do you think the retro consoles have aged? I feel that the N64 has aged quite poorly compared to the SNES which still feels great to play today.

Bryan Finck

Maybe overall, but I don't think I'm alone in saying they had the best wrestling games ever.

Anonymous

What are both of yours' favourite Star Wars movie (and least, while you're at it)! Anything other than Empire and Attack Of The Clones (respectively of course, AOTC is garbage).

Owen

Have you seen a lot of these older games getting Randomized for speed runs? LTTP probably being the most played one at the moment. Pretty cool way to revitalize old games

Benjamin

Being from Australia GI Joe (I think) was known as Action Man. "Action Man the greatest hero of them all". I loved those ads

Adam Niksch

Do you think Lucasfilm will ever be able to make a new movie that tops Empire?

strawhatninja

I'm curious about both your backgrounds as sports fans. I know you like the Jets and Islanders, but I'd like to hear more about your entrance into those fandoms growing up a long with Dagan's sport fandom.

Jeremy Cochran

Was there a certain conversation or moment that inspired this show in particular?

Anonymous

Top 3-5 episodes of Twilight zone that had a lasting impact on you, or are your favorites to revisit

Anonymous

Looking forward to these shows!!!! what is considered "retro games" at this point for you?

Anonymous

For best war films mine has to be schindlers list if that counts when I first saw it I had no idea he was a real person and then the ending is just excellent.

Adam Niksch

For the nintendo console show, my favorite is the SNES. I was very young when I got one (I don’t remember the exact year we got it), but I’ll always remember going to the Target with my brother and using our combined savings to buy one. We were quite literally handing them quarters and nickels to round out the final few dollars. And then when we got home and played Super Mario World for the first time...just amazing. Will always be one of my all time favorites.

Anonymous

For G.I Joe can we skip over the recent films cause there really isn't much to talk about there

Ryan Wood

Does Black Mirror have the potential to be as revered long-term as Twilight Zone?

Anonymous

Is Deadly Towers really as bad as I’ve heard throughout the years?

Anonymous

For the retro gaming scene/ Nintendo console episode, if the N64 classic ever happens what 10-15 games would you have on the console. Taking licenseing issues into consideration.

Christian Doolan

How old does a game have to be to be classed as retro? Should digital- only games be excluded indefinitely? In my opinion, there would have to be an official physical copy available! After all, it’s a collector’s market, isn’t it?

Michael Cline Jr.

What is the best war movie and why is it Full Metal Jacket? :)

Stefan Catinella

Have you seen Enemy at the Gates? While not the BEST war movie It is definitely one of my favorites, along with The Longest Day. Also Twilight Zone is an American Treasure and will never get old. I would love for you guys to discuss the Gameboy Advance and what you think about it's short lifespan. I think it was underrated and then done in by the DS.

Anonymous

In 20+ years will the current gen consoles be played as retro consoles the same way SNES/NES are played today?

Eric Wilson

Do you guys consider the best star wars movie: Rogue One to be classified as a war movie?

Ben Rusch

I don't know if this qualifies as retro but shoutout to super buster bros on the SNES. That game was the shit

Jimmy Valentine

Do you guys consider the success of Cowboy Bebop on adult swim as the point that anime became "mainstream"? That was my gateway as a pre-teen. I watch it every few years and it's in my top 5 of all entertainment. I also love Samurai Champloo.

Anonymous

My favorite war movie of all time is Saving Private Ryan. I did a project in grade school (maybe 6th grade) on the D-Day Invasion, and my paper for the project was pretty much me just describing the first 30 minutes of Saving Private Ryan! I think I got an A!

Anonymous

Not sure if it's the most underrated, but Tecmo Super Bowl still holds up today as my favorite football game ever created. There are still tournaments held throughout the country ... Did you guys play growing up and who did you use? (The Jets were atrocious.)

BettyAnn Moriarty

Can you mention 'Kid Kimono' please? At some point? 😬💞

Tony Colton

Would love to see you guys discuss the "Star Wars Ring Theory"... Does it explain why the prequels are so bad

Tony Colton

Oh and while on Empire Strikes Back..... Have a look at the fact the TLJ is the reverse of ESB

Cesar Solis

Need you guys to finally give Saving Private Ryan the G.O.A.T title it deserves! Also, Darth Maul was the best thing from Ep. 1?!? Confirm or deny!?

Steven Oslund

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Thin Red Line vs Saving Private Ryan as I've seen some contention on which is better. Personally I'm on team Saving Private Ryan and it is one of the few films that gets me to cry every single time. I'm guessing Band of Brothers won't make the discussion but it deserves a shout out in the topic. I think a discussion of how Apocalypse Now, Platoon, and Full Metal Jacket approach Vietnam, their similarities and differences, and which resonates more with you would be excellent too!

GentleFan

For "When Anime was Underground," anime is certainly a lot more mainstream and accessible today than it has been in the past. But do you think it will ever actually hit the mainstream level of American TV Shows and would us fans even want to see that happen?

GeeIdontknowRick

On the Anime Topic, do you still watch anime, and if so, what have been some of your favorites?

Anonymous

Talk about the best toys from the 80’s or early 90’s.

Hose A Contra Razz

Piggy back on above comment, Talk about the cartoons from the 80’s or early 90’s. Like He-Man, Voltron, GI Joe, Transformers, Thundercats, Duck Tales, Chip and Dale, Animaniacs and those Saturday morning cartoons

Ryan Martinson

I would like your thouhts for The Retro Gaming Scene on devices like the Super NT and NT mini before it. Are interested in owning one yourself? On a somewhat related note: do you have any predictions to when and what virtual console will look like on the switch?

Anonymous

I really love empire.

Anonymous

Did you watch The Wizard and did you want a power glove?

Anonymous

Were you into comics much? I just recently got into them, but I read exclusively from Image, not Marvel or DC, just from personal preference. All in all, I cannot wait for these topics!

Robert Graham

All these topics are so good. Super excited.

Anton Kaye

I think Twilight should be watched and discussed. It’s only fair.
