Hey All,

Knowing this audience, I suspect all of you area already all over this. But just in case, I wanted to reiterate what your friends, family, and trusted movie critics alike have already told you: Dunkirk is a fantastic film.

During my week off, I split time between Philadelphia and Long Island. The second half of my trip was on Long Island, where my brother, my father, and I went out to Montauk, rented a couple of hotel rooms, and shot the shit for a couple of days, away from everyone and everything. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't great, and we were cooped up inside. It was a perfect excuse to go see Dunkirk in the small local theater, and after trying and failing to get into three sold out shows, we finally caught the 10:10p.

If you watched or listened to my video on Dunkirk, you will know the history and all of that. I liked that Christopher Nolan only gave a little bit of background before jumping into the story, one that's told through different points of view over differing amounts of time. At less than two hours, it's a short flick by Nolan's standards, but to me, it was the perfect length. It was emotional, riveting, and abstract.

Go check it out. I really think you'll dig it.

Saw it, last night. Could not agree more! Seeing it in a theatre really adds weight and tension to the guns and artillery.

I'm glad you got to see it! I went Sunday morning to the IMAX screening here and it blew me away. Nolan is truly a cut above every other filmmaker working today. I was riveted the entire time, and I loved his use of different, yet converging, timelines to tell the story.

Saw it on IMAX! Go see it on IMAX!

Great film! But i cannot stress more, Dont see it in a little theatre! I did and i think I've missed out on the full magic compared to otheres. See it in a imax if you can or atleast a cinema screen that has a high end audio system.

Such an incredible film. Saw it in imax last week. That was one loud-ass movie...but fitting for a war film. My brother in law had never heard of Dunkirk before so I actually sent him the link to the CLS episode on it. He fell down the rabbit hole haha and now we've got another CLS fan! Spreading the word, and knowledge!

Saw it Sunday, Absolutely fantastic movie. Tom Hardy is a master at acting with just his eyes lol.

Hot take: LOVED the film but felt it would have been stronger with the last 10-ish minutes lopped off. Perhaps ending after seeing the Moonstone boat (nice) and seeing the plane maybe or maybe not landing on the shore. Nolan has always been Spielbergian like that with the drawn out, sappy endings, imo. The film's physical impact and highly provocative themes didn't need the epilogue and would have been stronger for me without it. Would have been better to do the historical context with some thoughtful text on-screen instead of epilogue. As a whole though, no one should miss it. 👌

I saw it. It's a solid movie but it just really jumbled at times. It's unclear wether a scene is a flashback or not. No real standout performances. If you didn't know anything about Dunkirk you're not gonna know a lot going out. Some weird choices like no one saying the world German or nazi. It had amazing sound design and great moments of tension but as a whole it felt lacking in comparison to other WW2 movies. Actually the more I think about it the more I'm disappointed by it. It's good but it could have been so much more.

Hey Colin - saw the movie, it's amazing as expected from Nolan. Now i have an itch to learn more about WW2 (I just know the basic things you learn in history classes in school). What are the best WW2-related books you would recommend?

It really does. I wanna go see it again! Ramon's here for a week or so; my sister Ali is coming through shortly, too. Maybe I'll go with them.

Interesting. I'll have to keep that in mind when I see it again. It did feel long, but it was also short for a Nolan flick.

You think so? I loved how they told the story from three perspectives over three radically different periods of time. It was very cool. Very complicated, but very cool.

Hey Daniel, I think I may have answered your question in a different thread? Let me know if not; you can always DM me here on Patreon if need be.

Loved the film. My bday was the 21st and I went that Sunday with my friends and family. Absolutely fantastic. If you pay attention to the beginning it'll tell over how much time each perspective takes place. It's an interesting way to tell a story, and I loved how it was more about the incredible events and what the British and French went through as a whole rather than making it about a couple specific characters with a war in the back drop.

Done and Done. I believe this is my new favorite Nolan movie. The man can do no wrong.

I like the idea of having the story told through three perspectives but it was the way it was put together that felt muddled
