After an incredible 33 year run spanning a full 367 print issues, legendary games magazine Game Informer has shut its doors. While it's obviously sad for all who have lost their jobs, it's likewise a blow to the generations of enthusiasts who once leafed through its pages to learn about what was next. Peaking at around 8 million subscribers at its height -- and ostensibly a backdoor marketing arm of brick-and-mortar retailer GameStop (and FuncoLand before it) -- the failure of Game Informer further brings into focus the ever-changing landscape of media. To discuss this topic at length (and to chat about a bunch of other stuff, too), I (Colin) asked The Washington Post's Gene Park onto Sacred+ for a one-on-one we both think you'll really enjoy.

Good episode, but I wish Colin and Gene covered Game Informer's closure in a bit more depth. Along with IGN it was the only gaming outlet I had a good deal of nostalgia for. I still had a subscription to it but the quality was never the same after the 2019 layoffs.

Honestly, I don’t care that Game Informer went down. I was there at peak of magazines like Gamepro, GameFan, Gamers Republic, PSM, etc. Game Informer squandered their good will when they, like the games media at large, started constantly attacking gamers, calling for censorship and the like. Imran Khan was one of the worst with this, even going as far as trying to get Yoko Taro to apologize for 2B from Nier Automata. Nothing but extremist killjoys.

Gene and Colin convos have become my favorite part of LSM. These guys could discuss taxes and make it entertaining.

Such an outlier in Colin's judgement to me. Also saying that billionaires pay less taxes than their secretaries because they don't really have actual jobs and their secretaries do as if that makes sense
