Beta Energy | Sacred Symbols, Episode 315

The next PlayStation Studios game in the pipeline is Concord, and we're all interested to see how it pans out. But by opening up its imminent beta weekend to all PS+ subscribers instead of those who pre-ordered the game, it's obvious that the pre-release energy for this title simply isn't there. Will a mass of people going hands-on change its trajectory? Or do things seem a little bit dire for Firewalk's maiden voyage? Plus: Bloodborne for PS5 appears on PlayStation Stars in a cruel tease, Zenless Zone Zero hits 50 million players in only a week, Arc System Works is toiling away on a 3D Double Dragon game, Sony gets into bed with PalWorld studio Pocketpair, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! What do we think of the extensive changes Microsoft made to Xbox's Game Pass program? We've talked a great deal about AI, but how do we feel about its distant cousin procedural generation? Which changes do we want to see instituted most in Firaxis' Civilization VII? Will Chris trade his PSVR2 to a listener for standing room concert tickets? Tickets to Sacred Vs Dukes live show: https://bit.ly/SacredDukes Follow the hosts on Twitter! Another post by me and this will be a bit of a ramble. I disagree with Colin when he says people didn't think it was going to be bad in regards to Helldivers 2. A lot of the chatter on twitch and YouTube before Helldivers came out was exactly that. That the game looked generic, that the game probably wasn't going to be good, but it blew up on twitch and YouTube during the BETA, and that reception slowly spread and caught on with the mainstream. once the public had access to it People are detached from twitch and YouTube and I get it. It's not for everyone. Palworld for example blew up on twitch 2-3 days before it released on Game Pass. Streamers were given early codes for the STEAM version, and then it continued to blow up once it reached Gamepass and more people were able to jump in. People love to hate on twitch and YouTube but a lot of games blow up there and end up going viral because they gain steam on twitch and it spreads across the internet. Rocket League for example back in the day BLEW UP on twitch and everyone was like "when can I play this?" and streamers kept telling everyone "Wait, it's coming out on PS+ in a few days" It helped Rocket League get a lot of attention. It's like how Among Us blew up and became a phenomenon. It was because of twitch. Same thin with Fall Guys, etc. Streams put a lot of eyeballs on games. Ramble over.

Man with all due respect, it's getting tough to listen to some of xbox related conversations by Colin. Again this proves why Colon only focusing on playstation ecosystem causes deeply flawed talking points regarding Xbox. I still love all of you, but just a tiny bit more education on Xbox would help. Just sometimes comes off as "xbox hater energy". With peace and love

Andrew

What flawed points? Game Pass isn't doing well for Xbox. I did some research a while back. Last reported Xbox Live numbers I found via google was around 12 million subscribers, that was before Live was folded into Game Pass. Phil Spencer said during the business update that Game Pass was around 34 million subs when they announced the 4 games going multi plat. In 2022 it was reported that Xbox Game Pass had 25 million subs. If you add 25 million Game Pass subs + 12 million Xbox live subs that equals 37 million subs. So somewhere along the way they've lost 3 million subs. That's with Starfield, a highly anticipated game, Halo Infinite that was highly anticipated, and a lot of other great games that made it to Game Pass. That isn't good for Xbox. Phil Spencer also said in an interview he has weekly meetings with the CFO of MS to discuss Xbox's profitability. Xbox can't be losing money. Xbox is under the microscope at all times. I love Game Pass. I play on my Series X all the time, but what I'm saying is reality. If you don't believe my stats, google them or I can provide links.
