Ken Levine on Judas, Game Dev, and AI | Sacred Symbols+, Episode 381

Please welcome legendary games writer, designer, and director Ken Levine to our show. Today, Ken joins me (Colin) almost a year after our last conversation on Sacred+, and now that his upcoming title Judas has been more thoroughly shown-off to the world following its announcement back in '22, he's able to chat more openly. Obviously, we focus quite a bit on Judas itself, and all that surrounds it -- "narrative LEGO" and generation ships and the like -- but we also get into a variety of other topics: The modern games industry, the potential of AI, the price and length of games, the cost of outspokenness, and more. Do enjoy.

Such a great chat, very good questions Colin and I just can’t fucking believe we are finally getting a new Ken Levine game soon, Bioshock Infinite feels like a lifetime ago but I still remember the crazy hype leading up to its release. Good old times.

Loved the conversation, Ken dropped a nice couple of nuggets behind the inspiration of Bioshock which give it even more context. It was interesting to hear how Ken is using AI to QA the game. I guess since there's AI used as a tool in this game, I'll be eating some delicious horsemeat.
