Hey guys,
Been editing nonstop for a week straight and so stoked to get this new series moving, called 'Texas Border Crisis.'
Unlike our previous coverage along the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona, which predominantly revolved around the experiences and first-person accounts of of migrants from a variety of faraway countries like Guinea, Bangladesh, Senegal, Guatemala, and beyond -- this series aims to take things a step further and to explore the lucrative, billion-dollar human smuggling industry that is ran by traffickers on the Mexican side of the border, often called 'coyotes.'
After my strange encounter with the Tribal Police on the T'ohono Odham Reservation, who strategically diverted me away from following the migrant bus inland from the Gringo Pass border crossing by using a tribal loop-hole that bans 'filming permissions,' unless journalists have been pre-approved by the tribe's council, I felt like there was something extremely suspicious and deliberate going on.
And so my mission began - to find coyotes across the border and personally shadow them, ask questions about what is really going on, and develop a better understanding the human smuggling economy.
What we filmed along the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas was quite possibly the most shocking stuff we've ever captured, and I'm going to put this series out in four, 12-15 minute parts for a couple reasons.
For one, I am editing all of this by myself and your continuous feedback as I work through footage is an integral part of the creative process and helps me refine a condensed final product for the 'surface net.'
But most importantly, some of the stuff we filmed in Mexico could possibly land us in hot water with some organizations that I'd rather not interact with, so we need to be VERY thoughtful as to how we present the footage.
In this first episode, we'll fly to Eagle Pass to meet up with our bilingual escort (and the homie), rapper Chedda Blanco, who walks us into Mexico to first meet the coyotes.
Enjoy,
AC.
P.S. - This is a re-upload of a video I posted two hours ago that I guess was missing a couple blurs. Shout out to the Patrons who caught that!
