Here's our first round of coverage of the Lyrical Lemonade festival 'Summer Smash' in Chicago last month. This episode features interviews Oliver Tree, Anthony Fantano, YEAT, and various rabid fans of YEAT. In the next installments, you'll see interviews with Fat Nick, Pouya, Boss Top, and young rappers such as Ikee Munna and G NUK, who give us a tour of Chicago's infamous 'O Block,' where Drill Music originated in 2011 as per Chief Keef.

*FIXED LINK* - YouTube 'Age Restricted' our first unlisted link for some reason, which makes embedding impossible. Here's a fixed vid in Patreon's built-in video.

We've been busy editing hard and filming for two weeks. More coming soon.

Love Y'all

- Andrew, Nic and Evan.

Grimace

I wish I had the kind of passion in life for something like these kids do, damn they hype!

Li Reid

Suited up, yeated up. This is so good

Anonymous

This was great. The opera sound paired really well. I liked the facetiming with their hero bit. Did that guy say YEAT was on a couple Tesla's? awesome reporting down on the street.

Anonymous

already did right click inspect network but thanks anyway for fixing :)

Anonymous

Finally getting that respect on your name.

MundaneBacklot

It's truly insane how y'all continue to produce such fucking high quality content. Never stop Andrew and gang. Y'all are the documentarians the world needs.

Thibault Tresca

that whole fan interaction with yeat and snot was low key dystopian

Anonymous

Chantony Fivetano

Anonymous

What's a yeat

Anonymous

Hahahahaha this is insane. I love this so much. Thank you, Channel 5, you really do capture the average person wherever you go.

Anonymous

Yeat talks like a doorknob

Anonymous

I know this is more coverage on the artists themselves, but I thought it should be said that Summer Smash is held in Douglass park (a public park in a predominantly low-income neighborhood). I'm native to that side of the city, and community members have been continuously fighting to keep big festivals like this one out. They close off the park the entire summer, and heighten police activity in the area. Not to mention, the park is right in front of Saint Anothony Hospital, so you can imagine how the traffic in the area can cause problems. There's a ton more, but... Yeah

Anonymous

Lmao the portapotty interview had me ballin with laughter

Anonymous

GREAT FIRE

Anonymous

Honestly had no idea that burkas are drip

Anonymous

I’m the dude from that part of it, my insta is @h1wayman.iso for proof

Anonymous

Talk to him like a normal person

Fin Hinchcliffe

Y'all really stretching the relationship with yeat

Anonymous

The way the two women and the dude acted towards Yeat really made me sad. It’s hard to explain, it was just… extremely strange and made me uneasy

Anonymous

deadass idt those girls were of age. that whole bit felt mad uncomfortable

Anonymous

@Erdman, don't worry boy. You were good

Anonymous

Man those kids were total dweebs. Great video!

Anonymous

Is that a Freemason cap on your dashboard?

Anonymous

really uncomfortable interaction/scene but they were definitely of age. 20 and 21, they just look and act younger. i know some similar people. they did yeat dirty...

juicy jay

Those rap groupies are somethin else man lmao

Anonymous

OMG when I saw fantano come in on the lawn mower I died XD

Anonymous

Anonymous

Keep the suit on, it's a great look <3

horace

creaky and clickity clackity, sharp turns and consonants that cut through the lisp and inflammation of mucosal lining from the (not juul) mango nic stick. good for him, honestly. i j copped a juul myself after postponing kicknic summer 22 to the fall (of degeneracy and all things unholy [nic])

Anonymous

Right ear audio only?

horace

hnnnnnngg dem gals was neotenous as fuck hope they take some time to reflect after observing their Despicable (them, not Me) behavior as it was displayed at the Lyrical Lemonade Minion Yeatfest. cant find a word for cringe thats really rlly rly cringe, revolting perhaps? i too am on the cusp of the cultural generations but god damn ig some folks j dont peep how they move, all this lacking of substance (of the mind, and various drugs) and whatnot. you were very nice to them sir, idk if i'd be able to participatorily observe such behavior. good yard and thanks for being here andrew nic and evan and sidam call me I got to tell you about a new turban (head thing) 555-555-5555

horace

thank u por da weedyo sir very nice one once again channel 5 has yet to miss

Anonymous

I have never heard of YEAT prior to this, he's the amalgamation of GenZ + Soundcloud rap + Tiktok and a real low point for all three imo

Heather Luhn

so someone in the group into ball-busting?🤨🤔

Duck

Cognitive dissonance hype train

Joe King

More port-a-potty akshun — prearz answered. Y'all deliver that real shyt. 11/10

Anonymous

So randomly I went to a Yeat youtube song (poppin), seems he is hypocritical about the drugs part. I need my drugs, I need my love (we get high) Bitches pullin' up and they suck us up (hey)

Anonymous

i dont understand why people idolize rappers just let them chill and do stuff

Craig

Really pleased to see the suit again. I felt a lot of tension from the soundtrack/atmosphere during Mr. Yeat's segment.

katrina

Those women. Wow.

Benjamin Glover

what's the smell like around those portaloos

Mark Heijblok

Please do an interview with them in 10 years.. What are they doing then? How do they look back on this festival?

Mark Heijblok

Good to see starfucking is still going strong.

Anonymous

i never felt so old before. are these girls 21? also im interested now to see if fan culture was exactly like this in the 60-70s. because ones gut reaction is, now this is odd fandom but I kinda get the feeling e.g. the Beatles would have elicited a similar reaction.

Dane

I could not handle being famous

Anonymous

This world is fucked with this new generation.

a k tomasi

"talk to him normal" brain damage is no joke

Smallbusinessman

its not a generation thing. people acted like this forever. just look up old Beatles vids and people fanboying it up.

Anonymous

imagine it aint snot haha that would have been hillarious

Anonymous

Man I get they're excited to meet their like idols or whatever but these people dont know how to act lmaooo. I've met a few famous people that I love and while I did get excited I wasn't totally uncool about it

Jake Wilty

the yeat groupie to $not groupie pipeline

Anonymous

Another perfect video as always, thanks Andrew & crew <3

Anonymous

Yeah, cause that zip tie would have made the suit look goofy.

Anonymous

Kilt kid funny as fuck

Joe

not to be negative and maybe I'm staing something obvious, but out of every single interview Andrew's ever put out, yeat absolutely has to be the dumbest, most void, most boring, most garbage interview subject ... yet. (yeat) and he treats his fans like garbage too because he's a braindead walking bowl of soggy cereal

Anonymous

Is he everything you hoped? YES

Anonymous

I like how this piece exposes the relationship between rappers and their fans. These guys could take a dump on a fans' heads and get a "thanks for the hat" in return. Glad to see Fantano tho. What a cinematic universe.

Anonymous

Rebrand, only go to B-tier music festivals and have Mellon do a primer interview for every single one after riding up on a lawn mower.

Paige Bowman

fan and groupie culture started in the 60s and the Beatles were one of the first to define it. Elvis too

Paige Bowman

screamed at the cut to Melon w the metal music also many people in the comments are acting embarrassed on behalf of the fans interviewed here but know that they likely would've acted the exact same if they were 21 and had the chance to meet their fav rapper or artist, its cringe to watch from a distance but none of us are immune to fandom or could predict that they'd be perfectly cool if offered the same opportunity

Paige Bowman

that being said Yeat it wouldn't hurt if u acted even the slightest bit grateful to ur fans

Anonymous

Andrew's interview with Yeat was the most interesting, thought provoking, historical interviews of his career.

alexander house

This shit is so funny to me man. Seeing how crazy these kids get is pretty awesome too. That one girl “I would kill myself if Yeat asked me to” 🤣

Anonymous

Girls: I would unalive myself for you!! Yeat: appreciate it… click

Anonymous

I'm the girl in the red. I am 20. I offered them my ID. Just wanted to make that clear since there seems to be confusion.

Anonymous

I am 20. 21 next March. But I never imagined meeting them at the festival, it was a lot of shock. I was listening to my $not playlist the entire drive to Chicago so it was insane! I didn't know how to react.

Anonymous

Thank you for understanding lol. I'm the girl in red and I didn't think about how I would look on camera. I was shocked and didn't really believe it was actually gonna happen until it did. Stuff like this never happens to me it feels like so it was a great night. So beyond thankful for Andrew, Evan, & Nic.

Nikola Šobajić

"I like cereal", this MF is Cheese from Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends

Anonymous

Wait youre one of the girls? Since you said you simply didn't know how to react, would you say someone pointing a camera at you basically made it feel like you should react in a certain way?

Anonymous

This video was pretty bad...

Anonymous

That was a trip lmao

Anonymous

This was amazing

Anonymous

yeat so fuckin tired of this life

Michael Karger

It's the Gregorian chants during the Yeat content that sent me over the edge. 😂

Anonymous

Laughed so heartily and joyously when Johnthony Deertano came onto the scene

Anonymous

Is YEAT alive? I know dude's walking around and breathing but he has the mental thereness of a lamp.

Anonymous

Hope we get a Pouya interview y’all!

Anonymous

He should ask Pouya why he s*xually assaulted my friend in VA Beach!

Anonymous

I'm the girl in red. A little bit. What do you mean exactly?

Anonymous

Andrew advising the man in the porta potty to talk to Yeat normal is the best thing that’s happened this year

Anonymous

Go find Sharkula!

Anonymous

By meeting "them", I understood you ment channel 5? Well, one of the interesting questions is: if you look at your behavior after the fact, would you say (a) this is just me or (b) this is just me at a festival or (c) this is just me being interviewed by Channel 5 (at a festival) or something else. Which said in another way, means "I'm always like this", "I'm like this in very specific conditions" (festival), "I'm like this because a camera/microphone was pointed at me". When you said "I didn't know how to react", it felt you might imply the third of these things.

Frei Kjær

broooooooooooo i could barely watch this vid, they were so fucking cringe, like i get being excited to meet someone you look up to but jesus christ lmao.

Anonymous

Giving fans a chance to facetime with Yeat was such a good move. Makes for good content, the fans like it, and Yeat can hang up when it gets too wierd.

Spirit molecule

the people talking to Yeat was super cringe and hilarious! Nicely done.

Vinny vinson

The suit comes back on. Like a superhero

Anonymous

When I first met Channel 5, I recognized Andrew I just couldn't realize from where. Then I was lowkey under the impression they were news reporters from tv or something. The dots connected shortly thereafter lol. I wasn't super shocked that I met Channel 5 because I saw them all over the festival all three days. However, I started to freak out because he said we could FaceTime Yeat. I told Andrew I loved $not specifically and that I was mainly at the festival for him. Then Andrew surprised us with $not. We had no idea we were gonna see him at all and he came out of nowhere. At that point, my brain wasn't even in my head lol. I was so excited and shocked that I didn't have time to think through anything. I was just trying to seize the moment and not think about the cameras as much.

The Irony Giant

Sitting here at home, I physically leaned away from my computer screen so Yeat wouldn't see me on facecam.

Anonymous

At first I didn't understand the tie, but it really tied it all together. And when Andrew said he Believed in Interviewing and Yeat respected that haha.

Anonymous

I'm sure if you wanted your part cut they would do it if you messaged them they seem like good dudes

Anonymous

The Bulls entrance music when you suit up is fucking epic. I weirdly got goosebumps. We out here feeling things.

Anonymous

Why do the people being interviewed like Yeat and $not? Their intentions and appreciation seem unbelievably vague and indefinable to their own self. Is it purely clout-chasing? Is the Vibe the only thing that matters? I can understand being starstruck and not knowing what to do or say when you meet your hero, but damn...no one interviewed could give a coherent answer about why they were there and what they were looking for. This might be one of the darker NGNB/Ch5 vids ever.

Anonymous

those 2 yeat groupies look like theyre majoring in clout chasing

Chris D'Antonio

Fwiw his advice was "for the kids" - I think it's reasonable for somebody to make it big under the influence (drugs, alcohol, whatever) and still provide advice that they didn't follow because they're the incredibly rare exception, not the norm.

Anonymous

pt. 2 soon?

Anonymous

Yeat is the most apathetic person in existence

Anonymous

feels like you’re reading way too into this. Also based on your last sentence maybe you should watch some more of Andrew’s vids lol 👀

Anonymous

I’m the girl in the red. I told Andrew as soon as I met him that I was mainly at the festival for $not and that I loveeee him so much. Andrew surprised me with $not but the conversation regarding it was not included in the video. I am a fan of Yeat, but I recently started listening to him. However, I’ve been listening to $not for years. So when I was surprised with $not I was in complete shock! And as for the FaceTime call, I was just grateful to get the chance to do so. I hope that puts it better in perspective.

Anonymous

With that being said, a lot happens off camera. Additionally, cutting footage is inevitable. They cannot possibly keep everything in the video. I was unsure of which clips would actually end up being used. I’m grateful for the opportunity and it was so much fun.

Anonymous

This seemed so half hearted. Not the best video form Channel 5

Anonymous

Cant wait to see pt 2

Anonymous

Amazing video as usual, Andrew's tie was beautiful

Anonymous

These videos give me so much second hand embarrassment, it was funny seeing Andrew break character for a second because he was the one getting the second hand embarrassment

Anonymous

Andrew really highlights the best of Gen Z

Joseph So

THE SUIT

Joseph So

I do, however, feel him on frosted flakes. They're great.

Anonymous

Can we even say there's a genuine culture on display here? Seems like a lot of vapid bullshit signifying absolutely nothing.

Anonymous

I thought maybe I was missing something with the latest rap/hip-hop movements. Turns out no.

Anonymous

people will idolize anybody that gives them music that they love man

Anonymous

ok ovahdar the obtuse, ruler of the zyphaltron empire in the virgo supercluster

Anonymous

L take. I have never and would never react this way to meeting anyone.

Anonymous

Prime Andrew. Love your work.

Anonymous

Girls were 1000% not “of age” but respect it

Anonymous

the male Yeat fan in the kilt or whatever was giving major school shooter vibes. Hope Chicago PD has eyes on that dude.

Anonymous

I'm happy for those girls they had a religious experience

Anonymous

Not me just sitting here judging these fans for acting all weird and everything meeting their idols even though I'd do the exact same thing if I ran into like Paul Thomas Anderson at a film festival.

Anonymous

I think its straight up bull shit that yeat is actually on drugs dude looks sober af
