Here's our coverage of a pro-choice protest two days ago in our hometown of Seattle, Washington, just around 48 hours after Supreme Court decided to repeal Roe Vs. Wade, featuring interviews with protestors, a couple pro-lifers, and an old friend. I know especially for a lot of y'all on the east coast it's pretty late, I just wanted to get this out asap.

Enjoy

- Andrew, Nic and Evan.

Great Episode❤️, I love how you capture both sides of the story and let the audience kinda take the information and form there own opinions. Keep up the amazing work!

Mike Paine

that last interview with the christians felt like they time travelled from the past, I didnt know they still dressed like that

Angel

It makes me sad to see all the women in this country fighting for something that was justified and humane to help them live there lives. Now that's taken away, what's next?

Anonymous

Damn this seems super quick after the announcement, glad to see it

Anonymous

damn I hope y'all post this on the youtubes quick, so many people need to see this.

It was amazing haha dude keep on doing the lawd's work y'all ✊🙏

I wonder how the lady at the end would feel if she had an ectopic pregnancy and she knew she would die as a result of trying to carry the baby to term. These people only think about the happy path of life. Amazing interviews as always, I love Seattle

Mark Unthank

Andrew this is why I love you so much. Turning away from the radical Christian while he’s talking to go get a more interesting opinion. Absolutely adore the disrespect, thank you!!!!

Anonymous

Who was that cult and where can I join.

Anonymous

Fuck that old world bullshit.

Joe King

That lady at the end would never be in a "bad situation" as you put it — ain't nobody tryna fuck that.

Duck

Whoa, that is where I live. Thanks for doing what you’re doing.

Bobby Styles

Christianity is a cult and it has fully infiltrated the U.S. government. None of them in this video believe one word of the bullshit they were spewing.

Heather Sullivan

Worst part of the pro life movement is they don’t give a fuck after these babies are born. Pro lifers in the words of George Carlin “If you’re pre born you’re fine, if you’re pre schooled you’re fucked!”

Anonymous

Thank you for the work you do, Andrew.

Anonymous

I feel like this needs to be pushed on to Youtube ASAP

The lady at the end is the face of the oppressed.

These are the people who nod their heads to the story of Abraham. Never mistake it for what it is. They will clamor over lives and corpses on what they believe is the ascent to heaven. Every christlike christian I've met ended up leaving the religious institution and now keep their spirituality to themselves.

Heather Luhn

Go off, Mads. Sounds like a rad guy

Anonymous

these people's opinions are horrendous but your comment is p sexist pal

Anonymous

Bro first off love everything you guys do great stuff and I understand it's difficult with subjects like these BUT a friendly reminder that one of your best qualities is your objectivity. My personal opinion (which can very legitimately be disregarded) is that the questions with the religious folks where a little leading. Again, just trying to share my humble opinion love your shit keep it up.

Anonymous

I'm 100% Pro-Choice but thank you for representing both sides of the aisle in this video, as usual. It's important for people to hear anti-abortion arguments so they can understand both how stupid they are and how to more effectively deconstruct them.

Anonymous

depressing as shit

Joey Planets

It sounded like he was passionate about this subject, and he did something similar during Uvalde. Andrew is doing what he loves and when there is something going on that goes against his beliefs, he doesn’t shy from using the medium he created to prove a point. Honestly, he sounded like me when I talk to my religious friends back home who give me the same ‘brick wall’ type answers.

Shala

I’m a patreon to support the channel, not for the benefits. I wouldn’t mind seeing this released to YouTube asap.

Robotoboy

While Andrew is "objective" he quite obviously believes in much more socialist, and progressive concepts. It's weird to me that people don't get that. Andrew is a humanist, which means he gives everyone a voice no matter how insane, or deranged their viewpoints are. He often takes a back seat to his own beliefs in favor of letting the person reveal theirs and letting us be the judge. Big thing to note though is that since he will feel quite strongly about certain subjects, it's going to effect his coverage at times.

Anonymous

Somehow, I don't think someone guys are lining up to impregnate that lady....

Wes Papes

I've seen a very "interesting" take on how to solve this issue. One person said "just don't have sex unless you want a baby". I sat there like "Wow, it's almost like people have sex for pleasure or something". But a woman should be in control of what she chooses to do with her body, as we all should. End of statement. Thank you for showing both sides, as you do.

Anonymous

I love that all the pro life reasoning stands behind “I’m a christian”. Who cares…. the separation of church and state is a blurred line, what a joke.

Anonymous

If you get bogged down in the question of when life begins you're gonna go back and forth for decades before anything happens, and a lot of people are going to die. Excellent coverage as always from Channel 5.

Anonymous

if any opportunities arise again around pro lifers please ask em how they feel about seperation of church and state

katrina

It’s funny how when you just let people talk certain sides stick out as more intelligent or articulate 🤷‍♀️😝🧚‍♀️

katrina

As a woman I think your comment is pretty sexiest...and also it literally made me laugh out loud. Pain + distance =comedy 😂😂😂😝

Jeremy

Will we be getting more Ralph?

Phoenix

The fundamental crux of their argument, the Christian Right, is whether the possible will of God supersedes the existing will of the human. You can interpolate a lot about a person’s moral principles from that alone.

Anonymous

Oof thank you guys made my day and am sure made a lot of women feel heard and respected :”)

Thank you for jumping out there and getting on the street. This is why I support you. Real coverage.

As always - getting the coverage we all need. Love it. Modest Proposal: Eat the Rich FETUSES (since they'll still have access) to fight food insecurity. That or roving, Mad MAX style, abortion gangs. I'm good either way.

Chad Vantine

"We are for anything that saves lives" So you are anti-war, pro social programs, anti death penalty??? Doubt it...hypocrites...

octopus

Love your work man. I think its best when you stay non-editorial, your best work is when you go to the people and present their opinions directly to the masses, in my opinion. I think religion is a mental illness, but especially in the last interview with the religious lady, it felt like you were pushing your side. I understand it can be hard not to, but again, I just think your work speaks the loudest when you let folks speak for themselves. Just a thought! Keep it up!

Anonymous

or if we had different church, same state. Would she let another religion control her body?

Andrew Matson

Andrew you said "contraception" I believe when you meant "conception". tricky fucking words!! nice work as alway.

Spirit molecule

it's always a good day when Channel 5 blesses us with a new upload. Much love to Andrew and the crew!

Anonymous

This is just incorrect. Fundamentalist women like this are traded off for marriage like cattle, and part of it is submitting to their husband's sexual desires at all times, including immediately after having a baby so the next one can be conceived as soon as possible. So really this woman is living in an ancient religious structure that was literally designed because people do want to "fuck that." Their entire lives are a bad situation.

Anonymous

So bizarre how channel 5 is the best representation of Reality in America. Love it tho.

Anonymous

I don't entirely agree. I interpret his interview style here, and in many other interviews, as getting the opinions people on one side of an issue have about some of the main arguments being made by people on the other side of that issue. For instance, he asked several people who were pro-choice what they thought about the argument that some pro-lifers were making about life starting at conception. That said, he obviously is pro-choice and so was able to push the pro-lifers a bit more about the pro-choice arguments than the other way around which is where the bias lies. That bias is obviously a con to taking this approach but I find it more engaging and honest when people are challenged to address the arguments being made by those with opposing views. So I think the small amount of bias it introduces is worth it in the end.

Anonymous

I am curious how these religious women would feel if someone they loved had an abortion. it's easy to say, "oh I know what I would do in this situation" and really believe that you would act that way, but I want to know what they'd say about how they would grapple if someone they loved dearly had an abortion

Desmond Hawkins

I wish Andrew asked these so-called "pro-life" Christians what the punishment should be for abortion, and why they're not answering "capital punishment" like for murder.

Anonymous

" i remember every one of your bars, man" was cute as hell

Chris

It's dangerous that these people have been misreading and not understanding their own bible for literal centuries. God does not tell them that life begins at conception, it says specifically that it is the first breath drawn that makes us alive.

Anonymous

Mads for congress

Anonymous

The interviews around 1:37 (“they were appointed at a different time in a different era”) and 4:00 (“boomer mentality, beyond boomer”) are kind of weird. Boomers suck, but this decision was the result of three Gen Xers getting appointed in the last few years. They aren’t very old and they were literally just appointed. It’s always weird to see people you agree with just totally out of touch with the facts or why stuff is happening

Logan Fredericksen

The reality is a lot of anti-choice people have abortions. Then they blame the government for letting it be legal, so they can push all their guilt on other people. They blame the doctors and say the doctors failed them for not talking them out of getting an abortion. They hide it from their churches or their families, some of them even pick the picket sign back up and harass other women seeking abortions. The hypocrisy that exists around these people that use the fetus until it is born, at which point they couldn't give a single fuck about the child, is astounding. These people need to be shamed for their evil. Why do we allow this kind of evil to exist in our society? Shame them all. Shame the ignorant who refuse to read book. Shame the ignorant who reject science. Shame the ignorant who reject doctors. Make it harder for them to express their views for fear of being publicly humiliated.

joshua barach

I would like to know more about the fundamentalist group dressed in gray. What sect are they? They don't really look like Mormons, not that I can tell by looking who is one or not. They seem Mennonite or something. Ideas?

Anonymous

Not offended. He's revealed himself to be a shallow thinker. "Abolish" people are living in lala land

Anonymous

Just to clear things up, the SCOTUS decision was to abolish the Federal right, which was in place because of Case law (Roe v. Wade), not any Federal statute/law. So the person talking about how SCOTUS can't made laws... They didn't. They simply reversed prior Case law. It's an obvious scumbag political move but it is nothing new, SCOTUS interprets the law and doesn't make the law. And SCOTUS Justices have lifetime appointments in order to insulate them from politics. If the SCOTUS Justices needed to run for election, they would be simple politicians who would just look at their next election, like the terrible Congress we have today. But clearly, the lifetime appointment DIDN'T work out as intended.

Paige Bowman

these systems have failed us over and over again, though. what would you suggest as an alternative?

Love the work keep it up <3

Michael Karger

It seems like a lot of people on both sides don't really know what's going on even if they have strong beliefs one way or another. SCOTUS is functioning properly even if we hate their decision--it's not law making to decide the constitutionality of something since that is literally the constitutionally described job of the judicial systems. The arguments made by Pro-lifers don't make sense in relation to other non-human animals. Humans are not special because we have human DNA. If the right to life begins at conception, then all other animals also have the right to life beginning at conception.

FrivolousExamination

I would have liked to hear the pro-lifer's stance on abortion in the instance of a fetal death creating a threat to the life of the mother. That's what's going to really hurt. Women will not have access to life-saving care. Doctors will have to let the mother die from sepsis as the fetus rots away inside of them.

RD

Problem is the Supreme Court has violated the 1st and 9th amendment in its ruling. Abortion access is written into numerous major religions holy books and allowing states to deny access means denial of religious freedoms. The 9th stipulates that just because something isn’t explicitly in the constitution or bill of rights it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist.

Michael Karger

But that's an issue of interpretation rather than a dysfunction of the court itself. I agree the decision was terrible and I think the way originalists interpret things is hot garbage. But the court is doing exactly what it's supposed to do.

Bowserjr711

I wish he talked more with the Christians and maybe had some protesters talk with them also. Great video Andrew :)

Big agree. Really feel that Abso Lutely Productions POV rubbing off on what has generally been the only trustworthy source of news

Oden

these christians pulled up in the DRIP damn!!! where to cop??

Anonymous

I feel as though both sides butt heads at a single point around when life atually begins. Some say at contraception, some say at birth, some say somewhere along the way. Is it not beside the point though? Regardless of when life begins we all agree there is the potential of a life to be had. I wonder if the pro choice argument would have more traction if this point was ceded and the focus was shifted to the hardships that come with an unsupported and unwanted pregnancy for both the mother and child, and how this can create issues for societies lasting generations. I just feel as though a lot of the time I see discussions around pro choice/pro life the subject of the debate is focused on something that is unbudging on both sides.

Jace

The only ppl I see making “arguments” about “when life begins” are anti-choice fundamentalists. Of course the fact that unwanted pregnancies so often lead to extremely poor quality of life for both the mother and child is by far the best argument against forced births.

Anonymous

Exacly, Its not Pro-Life vs Pro-Choice anymore. Its Forced Birth vs Human Rights

Loren Carvalho

Personally I think the shit about when life "begins" is asinine. If someone needs a kidney transplant to live, even a child, another person cannot be forced to give up their kidney. The same is true for pregnant people - even if you *believe* life begins at conception, why is it suddenly okay to take over someone else's life for a minimum of 9 months? What's the difference?

Anonymous

Generally parents are required to care for their children, or make arrangements for them to find care elsewhere if they are unable to. It's not similar to two adults fighting over a kidney

Anonymous

I mean, sure, but it's also all edited by left-leaning editors

Wearing my Channel 5 Hat in Knoxville, TN and I've already gotten positive comments.

Anonymous

Plus like, ok... maybe a fetus is alive technically. But is it human? Can it conceive of itself, does it experience emotion, can it do anything that defines being a human? I guess you could argue that an acorn is alive but you can't say it's a tree. It requires soil, sun, water, nutrients, all externally provided. In this case a fetus never ever turns into a human without being formed into one by the mother's body. Maybe abortion is the ending of life, but we as a society and species are clearly ok with ending life in some circumstances. It takes countless plant and animal deaths to keep a person alive. We condone wars and by and large the "pro-life" crowd also condones the death penalty.

Anonymous

This was fantastic as usual but damn I want more

Anonymous

It's a KEW

Anonymous

Isn't even the concept of "determining the constitutionality" of something up for interpretation though? Look at the intent of the founders for the constitution to be a "living document subject to the spirit of the times", then look at the "originalists" insistence that there's some past, perfect form of the law that we have to get back to and maintain, and tell me those aren't incompatible viewpoints, both in letter and spirit. "Proper function" isn't something that exists in a vacuum.

mickeymouse420

Yeah yeah legal but not so late. They want it to be a little late. Until it's pushed out? Really lady? Sometimes blows my mind how bad you can represent a good cause -- 3:24 Bunch of old white men ruled Roe v. Wade was protected under constitution. Three women, a black man, and a small bunch of white men overturned it. Andrew's rap was great

Michael Karger

For sure. It's all subjective. That's why there are different schools of constitutional thought.

Adam Davidson

Hey Andrew! I gotta ask, why did you throw softball questions at the Christians at the end? Why didn’t you ask about young women being the victims of rape and the pregnancy puts the life of the mother (an actual child) in danger? Like was the vibe that they were already kinda skittish and would have just shut down? I want to understand when you ask equally difficult questions to others that you interview.

Adam Davidson

You gotta rethink your stance my guy. She is so deep into it that she doesn’t even know she is being taken advantage of. It’s really sad. And if they are old order like that her future looks like she will be beholden to her husband over her needs

Adam Davidson

A good argument for pro-choice even after assuming life begins at conception is that if one woke up in a room one day and was attached to another human body that if the connection was severed the other would die. The first individual is under no ethical obligation to stay. The individual did not intend for this to happen and although unfortunate for the second individual, it’s also pretty scummy of them to kidnap another human being to have their own needs met (one might go even so far to say selfish). So if the first individual acts “selfishly” and unattaches themselves then moral equilibrium has been reached. (This is an argument I heard back in like 3 year uni well over a decade ago. I’m missing some steps but this is what I can remember)

Adam Davidson

No. AR, ID, MS, ND, OK, and SD do not. And more states don’t make exceptions for rape and even MORE states don’t make exceptions for incest

Anonymous

"Interesting😐" lmfaoooooo

Anonymous

The women at the end are the only ones who *didn't* get softball questions. Why did he not push back against the woman who said a fetus isn't a life until it's "physically pushed out of the womb?" It's a very extreme opinion that a day before their birth, a baby isn't alive

Anonymous

Where are you getting this seemingly incorrect information from? AR has exceptions to save the life of the mother - https://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2022/jun/25/state-abortion-ban-in-force/ ID allows abortions "in cases of rape, incest, and if the mother’s life is at risk." https://fortune.com/2022/06/24/abortion-laws-by-state/ MS banned abortions "except when the mother's life is in danger or a pregnancy was the result of rape or incest" - https://www.newsweek.com/nearly-all-abortions-mississippi-will-illegal-10-days-1719481 ND has total ban on abortion "except in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the pregnant person." - https://www.politico.com/news/2022/06/24/abortion-laws-by-state-roe-v-wade-00037695 OK has signed into law the "nation's strictest abortion ban", although, "the only exceptions in the Oklahoma law are to save the life of a pregnant woman or if the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest that has been reported to law enforcement." https://www.npr.org/2022/05/26/1101428347/oklahoma-governor-signs-the-nations-strictest-abortion-ban SD has made abortion illegal... "The only exception in South Dakota’s law, which the legislature passed in 2005, is if there is an “appropriate and reasonable medical judgement” that an abortion is necessary to preserve the life of the mother." https://www.dakotanewsnow.com/2022/06/24/abortions-now-illegal-south-dakota-following-supreme-courts-ruling/ Who has successfully manipulated you into thinking reality is scarier than it is, and why?

Some people can’t ride the fence on fking everything. Thank god Andrew seems to be one of them. Sometimes there is a right and wrong side to things. Not everything is “but muh both sides”.

Adam Davidson

A valid point in this cultural context. However other cultures believe that a baby isn’t alive until it draws it’s first breath and in others not until it laughs for the first time. In Iceland they wait to name their children thinking that it is bad luck to do right away. Possibly a tradition based in the number of children that died before they were 2 prior to modern medicine. Although granted he could have asked more about what she meant specifically.

Alden Rizor

Dude with the purple shirt on the skateboard was so impressed🤣🤣🤣

Anonymous

Huh, interesting cultural facts, for sure, altho not really applicable to the abortion convo. (Nobody's proposing legal abortion until the baby's first laugh haha). Iceland bans abortion after 22 weeks, giving less time than some US states

Anonymous

The woman in the final interview was being watched by a man in her church.

FrivolousExamination

The devil is in the details, my friend. https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2022/06/24/1107316711/doctors-ethical-bind-abortion. Mothers will have to wait until they're in imminent danger even if they know that the pregnancy will kill them. Imagine having to wait until a dead fetus inside of you rots until the point of you being on the verge of being septic. On the NPR podcast shortwave they interviewed a woman who had to cross state lines in a plane in this situation because her local doctors wouldn't operate on her. She had to have a emergency plan for if she went into labor on the plane. These are real situation with real people who are affected by laws that can make it easier and safer to go with a more dangerous situation. Edit: I can't make paragraphs and tried to make them by [enter].

6:22 - that dude's mind was fully blown by that rap.

Anonymous

A long time ago, a guy named Ross Ashby invented the "homeostat," a machine he claimed could think. It was essentially a bunch of batteries and wires that would try to reach a "balance," what he said was essentially homeostasis. It was created to challenge what we would call "alive." If this machine was brought to any pro-life person, they would probably immediately say it couldn't be alive. It wouldn't be for any logical reason, it would be only because they said it wasn't. My point is that they essentially have no actual standards for life; it's more about their want to dictate everything, and use an unquestionable divine mandate as a cudgel to shape the world as they see fit.

Anonymous

There are a lot of terms that you are using that really require both sides (“us” and “them”) to agree on a definition.

Anonymous

The definition isn't the point. It's how someone comes to a conclusion that is the problem. What I'm pointing out is that one side in particular is making gut decisions and backing them up with what they claim is objective superiority, despite the fact that there is a lot of debate on what life and even sentience is. Also, that if they say the machine doesn't live, then how does that square with a cluster of cells? It is a decision based on nothing; the decision they have truly made is that they will not actually make a real decision. What's even more disturbing is that it is seen as the correct way to think, and it must be enforced. It betrays a basic belief they all have: that the ordinary person is incapable of doing the "correct" thing, and must be made to. The other side also has a moral argument as well, but bases it in an examination of what life is and who has what say over another person's bodily and mental autonomy. It's also a side that says people should make a choice, as opposed to removing the option of one. The woman at the end pretty much makes it clear that their ultimate belief is that people should not be able to choose; anything that happens is the will of righteousness, and should be followed. It removes any idea of thinking and acting based on one's own ideas. You can see it even in how they are all dressed in the same colors, and have no personalized makeup.

Anonymous

Four white men, a black man, and a white woman who belonged to the cult that inspired Handmaid's Tale overturned abortion. The ruling was dominated by old white men. You're also twisting the words of that woman - she said that she believed life began at birth, not that a pregnancy should be terminated then. She has every right to believe that life starts at birth, as you do at conception. The difference is she isn't pursuing an agenda to legally force you into accepting her beliefs.

Anonymous

No sweat, commenting on Patreon stinks ha. You gotta go "Shift+Enter" Awful stuff, the women interviewed in that piece definitely all ask scary questions. It's clear though, none of them state what "will" happen, they just hypothesize the worst possible outcomes. And I hope none of those outcomes come to pass! Literally all of the interviewees in that piece work for Women's Reproductive Rights organizations, so it makes sense that they would paint the darkest picture possible in their sympathetic NPR piece. I hope the hypotheticals they drum up don't come to pass. Fortunately, the Oklahoma governor, while signing the strictest anti-abortion law there is right now, agrees with them, saying: "From the moment life begins at conception is when we have a responsibility as human beings to do everything we can to protect that baby's life and the life of the mother." It seems both sides agree: The life of the baby should not be prioritized over the life of the mother

The issue with the “shouldnt have had it” people is they don’t consider human trafficking, they don’t consider minors, they don’t consider abusive relationships, they don’t consider financial hardship, they don’t consider change in time availability because people do have less free time than they used to, there is so many factors they will ignore even if you bring it blatantly to their face. And most of all, almost all of them ignore the children once they’re born, and if they do acknowledge them, it’s usually with negativity. These are the same people who criticize single mothers for not having enough time to be there for their children because they’re working multiple jobs, the same people that criticize the teenager for getting into selling drugs because he’s too young to work but his family needs to make rent, the same people that criticize those who are left out and outcast, and like to act extremely shocked when the predictable happens: poverty, violence, overpopulation
