Jabba's Palace (Patreon)

This is a big one today! My Jabba's Palace diorama as well as a 'miniature' version just with the platform and the archways. You will need .5" thick foam core for the full size, the entire thing measures almost 4 feet wide, so I was surprised how many of you requested this!

Here is the "mini" version, no foam core required!

Construction:

This is all optional, but I used Wallboard Joint Compound to texture my scene, I used rubber gloves and smeared as thin of a layer as I could over everything, then I used a coarse sponge to texture (I just dabbed it all over). Once that dried I painted over it. Be careful though as it can flake away and leave white chunks behind after it's painted. I used Krylon texture spray for the throne and I like that much better, just make sure it fully dries for a few hours. If I were to do it all over again, I would use the Krylon texture spray instead of the joint compound since the color is pre-mixed (no white flakes).

There is a stencil file for the pattern around the top of Jabba's throne.

I used .5" foam core for the floor and then layered 4 of those to make the 2" tall area on the left half. Use the 3D printed pieces to trace out the size of areas you need to cut away (like the Rancor floor grate or the stairs). I used masking tape on the exposed sides of the foam core so the paint wouldn't eat away at the foam and to hide the layers in the 2" section.

I also used a mirror behind the stairs to add a bit more depth.

Lighting:

The ceiling piece is a .25" sheet of foam core, I printed the lighting grate STL and then traced it in areas where I wanted the light to come down, cut out those pieces from the foam and glued the lighting grate in.

I used this lighting strip that is taped strategically on top of the lighting fixtures, it has a motion sensor so it only turns on when I open my closet that this is in.
