Hello my patrons! Since I'm getting ready for my trip to VCF Midwest and the Apple II clone repair series took all my time, I lagged a bit getting this second channel video ready... but here it is!

I found this monitor in the trash, about to get recycled, and thought the cubicle metal case would be a good candidate for reuse. Upon further investigation, it turns out this monitor is way more capable than I ever expected! A bit of a gem!

So watch for a future video where I do some mods to this thing -- I kind of love it now!

I recently found this monitor in the trash, and first though that it was going to be a good candidate to have the guts swapped out, only reusing the cabinet. I was looking for a nicer CRT but gave up, then I went hunting for an LCD that could handle 15khz instead. I recently came across the ViewSonic VX2476-SMHD 24 Inch 1080p monitor. It's 16:9 and IPS, buuuuuuut... it absolutely does go down to 15khz on the VGA port. I've only had it a few days but so far it's running just great with my unmodified Amiga 1200 in PAL and NTSC (50/60Hz) at 15khz. I haven't had time to hook up my BBC Master to it yet but I don't see why it wouldn't also work. It even supports sync on green - amazon linky: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GV9H1RS

That's pretty wild. How did you even figure out it could do it? Seems like details and information is so scarce on which LCDs can do it.

I have a Kawarii, and would love to take advantage of the PAL capabilities, but it's really the monitor that's getting in the way of that. Your comment about how new CRTs are not being made can't be overstated; they will eventually run out, and keeping one going is just going to get harder and harder. Finding a "modern" solution that works would be a bonus.

Yeah what we have left is what's left. Luckily millions and millions have been made but indeed they are being recycled at alarming rates.
