Hello my patrons! This keyboard repair was originally part of the main Apple II clone repair video series, but in the end, I felt this would be more useful to people as a standalone episode. This is especially true in the future if someone is trying to fix one of these keyboard (any Alps keyboard) so they can reference this much shorter and easier to consume video.

What you will see in this video is why those keys aren't working -- this poor keyboard has been savaged by water and corrosion... but it's OK in the end, and should server the Clone machine for years to come.

Thanks for your support!

How to fix and repair Alps SKCC keyboards

On today's video, I'm fixing a computer keyboard that uses Alps SKCC switches. While repairing the Apple II+ clone computer this goes to, I determined that several key keys were not working. This board shows obvious signs of corrosion, so let's dig into and find out why it's not working. The techniques here apply to any Alps SKCC board. If you're worried about the way you're getting in being wrong, Nope! It's the standard way that Deskthority suggests: https://deskthority.net/wiki/Alps_SKCC_series As for that funny LED on springs? It's not aftermarket! It's stock from ALPS themselves: https://deskthority.net/wiki/File:Alps_SKCC_Cream_LED.jpg

I have a number of systems with these keyboards. Good to know what I'm in for if I ever choose to pull one apart.
