(Sorry this is a repost because Patreon is terrible and won't let me edit the video URL!)

Hello my patrons! On the next SMMC video, I try out both a Pentium Overdrive CPU upgrade and a Floptical drive. It was interesting testing out the Overdrive chip as it seemed to identify that there are some issues with my 486 board I used for my test bench. As for the Floptical, well I flounder a bit but perhaps I can get some infight from the community on what I was doing wrong.

I may or may not release this video as the next video on the second channel -- I may release something else instead. We shall see! (I like to keep everyone on their toes! Oh who am I kidding!) LOLOL

Summer is upon us in the northern hemisphere and I hope everyone in the US has a nice memorial day weekend! Time for friends, family and good BBQ.

0062 A Pentium 486 Overdrive exposed issues with my 486 motherboard

On today's SMMC, we have a Pentium Overdrive CPU (For the 486) that when tested revealed some issues with my 486 test bench! We also have a Floptical drive that I test out. -- Video Links Compaq Presario 425 Series: Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfBRfp9IRlM Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPw-g2hUzUI Part 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgxFL0zSW-w The retro web: https://theretroweb.com/ Adrian's Digital Basement Merch store: https://my-store-c82bd2-2.creator-spring.com/ Support the channel on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/adriansdigitalbasement Adrian's Digital Basement (Main Channel) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCE5dIscvDxrb7CD5uiJJOiw -- Tools Deoxit D5: https://amzn.to/2VvOKy1 http://store.caig.com/s.nl/it.A/id.1602/.f O-Ring Pick Set: (I use these to lift chips off boards) https://amzn.to/3a9x54J Elenco Electronics LP-560 Logic Probe: https://amzn.to/2VrT5lW Hakko FR301 Desoldering Iron: https://amzn.to/2ye6xC0 Rigol DS1054Z Four Channel Oscilloscope: https://www.rigolna.com/products/digital-oscilloscopes/1000z/ Head Worn Magnifying Goggles / Dual Lens Flip-In Head Magnifier: https://amzn.to/3adRbuy TL866II Plus Chip Tester and EPROM programmer: (The MiniPro) https://amzn.to/2wG4tlP https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33000308958.html TS100 Soldering Iron: https://amzn.to/2K36dJ5 https://www.ebay.com/itm/TS100-65W-MINI-Digital-OLED-Programmable-Soldering-Iron-Anti-static-Structure/113382669853 EEVBlog 121GW Multimeter: https://www.eevblog.com/product/121gw/ DSLogic Basic Logic Analyzer: https://amzn.to/2RDSDQw https://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-Logic-DSLogic-Basic-Analyzer-16Ch-100MHz-4Ch-400MHz-Xilinx-Spartan-6-FPGA/202543965672 Magnetic Screw Holder: https://amzn.to/3b8LOhG https://www.harborfreight.com/4-inch-magnetic-parts-tray-90566.html Universal ZIP sockets: (clones, used on my ZIF-64 test machine) https://www.ebay.com/itm/14-16-18-20-24-28-32-40-pin-IC-Test-Universal-ZIF-Socket-Fs/303206721971 RetroTink 2X Upconverter: (to hook up something like a C64 to HDMI) http://www.retrotink.com/ Plato (Clone) Side Cutters: (order five) https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-2-5-10PCS-Micro-Scissor-125mm-PLATO-170-Electronics-Cutter-Side-Cutting-Pliers/163458746184 Heat Sinks: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32537183709.html Little squeezy bottles: (available elsewhere too) https://amzn.to/3b8LOOI --- Links My GitHub repository: https://github.com/misterblack1?tab=repositories Commodore Computer Club / Vancouver, WA – Portland, OR – PDX Commodore Users Group https://www.commodorecomputerclub.com/ --- Instructional videos My video on damage-free chip removal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQVjwPsVFd8 --- Music Intro music and other tracks by: Nathan Divino @itsnathandivino

Philip from New Jersey

HI Adrian! This is Philip from New Jersey. I am so glad the parts I sent you arrived safely, and that they are all working! Well, mostly I guess. That L1 cache issue is very strange. Couple of other things I remembered with the Pentium Overdrive when I last used it all those years ago: - The chip was known as the "P24T" while in development, and many motherboard manufacturers referred to it as that in their manuals. Might be worth a shot to try the P24T jumper settings you found. Though the MR BIOS could be causing issues also. - The driver disk also provides a fan monitoring tool if you install it under Windows 95. It adds a fan icon in the system tray that will alert you if the fan has failed. I learned a lot of things I never know about the chip in your video though, including the CPU throttling when the fan stops! I hope you can find a Floptical disk somewhere, I would love to see that working as intended, as I never actually used it as I mentioned in the letter.

It's kind of funny to me that people are sending in stuff like relatively modern 500G drives 😅
