Hello my patrons! I was given this printer yesterday. I normally shy away from printers because they are big and of limited usefulness, but I couldn't resist this 1984 HP ThinkJet printer. As far as I can tell, this was the first commercial ink jet printer, at least according to some sources. 

It seems that it requires special paper -- although Marc's video doesn't mention that. 

I have no idea if this printer even works, but I do have a GPIB interface on my Windows XP box, so perhaps I can see if it wants to try to work. (The ink will surely be dried up.)

We used them for decades in my library. They are tractor fed, and the ink cartridge has a definite shelf life, when exceeded the membrane breaks down and dumps ink everywhere. They are rock solid reliable though. The line feed /online buttons plastic does wear out, but there are quality micro switches under them. They come in serial and parallel models if I remember correctly, we only ever used serial with our hp 2392a dumb terminals.

The ink cartridges are a very specific design proprietary to that printer as well.
