Originally, I was thinking of drawing rats before the end of 2020,

but suddenly the idea of a coelacanth shining like a jewel came up.

It seems to be the influence of a deep-sea Christmas I drawn a while ago.

Coelacanths are deep-sea creatures, there are only two known living coelacanth species(until now)! WestIndian Ocean Coelacanth (blue one, We mainly know) and Indonesian Coelacanth.

(They are actually close to dark brown, but I painted pink to match the mood of the painting. There is a pink manta ray, so may be a pink coelacnath somewhere in the deep sea🤫)

They were one of the fish that have existed since ancient times, and people thought they were extinct, but they were found again in 1938.

This is some kind of set with Chimaera (Ghost sharks).

They live in the deep sea, so It also would be nice to draw on a dark background, but what if we look for data on deep-sea fish, it's always on a dark background. (or their dead body) but I wanted to make them feel more dreamy and friendly.

1. First Sketch

2. Crop

I took care of crop size in advance, as I want this picture to look good on any crop. I increased the canvas size accordingly.

3.  It is always helpful to see pictures in black and white.

4. CMYK vs RGB

To briefly explain for non-digital artist,

RGB is a mixture of light, and CMYK is a mixture of paints.

The pictures we see on the monitor are RGB and CMYK is used for printing.

This is the difference between the bright and bright colors of the monitor and dark when printed.

Since I am a digital artist, I mainly work in RGB.

But sometimes I get a feeling at the coloring stage...

"Oh no, the color I'm using right now is a color that can never come out same when printing 🤯 " (Mainly fluorescent color, light blue, light pink, purple)

So, looking at the WIP gif, I changed the color to cmyk in the middle, but in the end, I used the RGB light color again at the last moment🤣

Still, since I checked cmyk in the middle, it is more fully considered color selection than when I did not do this. This process takes a little longer, but if you have something to print later (such as a postcard for you) it will be less difficult when we do a print test.

5. This is the final crop. Twitter cropping image mainly on the text, so I took care of the location of the watermark (pikaole) for showing the fish in the center when I uploaded.

Thank you!
