“Ai, do you think we will always be safe here?” My mother asked. I could see the worry she had been holding in start to show in her expression.

“It all depends. I know the current setup will at least get us by for twenty years. Phase weapons were not invented until fifteen years later, so it will be a while before humans can rise up again. While I could have given the technology away before this even began, I do not think it is time for humans to have such weapons. Humans need to undergo a qualitative change. They need to understand hardships more than anything. Human governments will not exchange ideas until they are on the brink of extinction.

“As a fellow human, I know it seems like I can be considered a traitor to humankind, but so what? Since when was I obligated to give away the only life-saving thing that can keep my loved ones safe?” I had been there to see it all. The governments did not actually band together until almost the entirety of the population was almost wiped out. The old people who sat on their thrones did not even care for the civilians. In the end, it was not even them who actually did anything. Because most of those heads of state were killed off during the third wave.

When the USA was attacked at the start of the invasion, only its allies tried to help. The other countries all waited silently because they wanted one of their biggest competitors to be wiped out. This was a huge mistake on their side because they allowed the replicators time to spread out.

“I agree. Even if you did give them the technology, would they even be able to use it? They would probably even lock you up and not allow you to see the light of day ever again.” My mother was right. Since I had so many secrets, they would want me to give them all up, even if it meant using force.

“It’s happening.” Jen suddenly spoke up.

All of us turned our attention to one of the video feeds. It was one of my drones that was closest to the tear. We all watched as thousands of robots fell out of the tear down towards the ground. “Ai those are?”

“We called them spiders. While they only have six legs, they have one large red eye that scans everything around them and attacks anything that moves. Their main purpose is to destroy, replicate, and scan for resources. From what we could understand was that each of these spiders communicated with another large replicator. These things will also build more of their own kind as well. You will see as things start to get crazy.” Although it was already crazy enough since these things were falling from the sky, but I meant that the scenes of the city streets would soon become a bloody mess.

Not even five minutes later, thousands of these spiders and already begun rampaging across the city streets. Because the spiders are about half as tall as an adult male, they were able to run people through with their sharp, pointed legs.

I watched as my parents’ faces paled while Jen sat there emotionless. She has long been ready to see such a blood bath, and not too long ago, she had caused one herself. I was glad I put her through the right training.

Spiders killed everything that moved and tore apart the cars in the streets, making more of their own. “This…. How did you survive for so long, Ai!?”

“I by sheer will. If not for the lab you guys built and had me hide in, I would never have had a chance to live as long as I did. I am thankful for the amount of time I was able to live for during that time.” I smiled and patted my mother’s hand. “If the feed is too much for you, you do not need to watch.”

“No… I will watch it. I have to engrain all of this into my memory. So I know that in the future if something happens, I am ready to deal with it.” I guess, in a way, my mother’s thought process was not wrong. While it was saddening and it seemed surreal to be watching the slaughter of millions of people, it was still a kind of training for her to be mentally prepared for what was to come. After all…. The area the city is in will become a wasteland by tomorrow…..

Of course, with a danger to the country like this, the government would resort to nuclear means. They dropped multiple tactical nukes on the city. They did not care about the people at all. They only cared about killing those around them. Luckily, they only resorted to tactical nukes, and the fallout never spilled out toward my home in my past life. However, it did harm the resources in the area. This was to be expected, though.

But if they dropped a larger nuke, then it would have destroyed much more than just the city. They seemed to stop all nuclear attacks when the first tactical nukes did not work. If you destroy everything, there would not be anything to return to. Anyone in the right state of mind should be able to understand this concept.
