“Master, this is my mother.” My mother stood at my side with her head lowered; she was very nervous.

“Miss Zhi, it is a pleasure. My name is Gu Xuan, your daughter’s Master. I am the only purple-grade alchemist in the southern area of the Qingyun Kingdom.” So, Master really was a purple-grade alchemist.

“Little Nine you are amazing you could tell at a single glance.” I couldn’t help but praise Little Nine. She had been able to tell her Master’s grade.

“Hehe.” Little Nine giggled. I think she was happy that I praised her.

“I am Ruo’er’s Mother, Zhi Xinyi. Thank you for taking us in, Master Xuan.” My mother finally raised her head and spoke. She gripped my hand slightly as she did. I think she was nervous that she might say something and make Master angry.

“Haha! No need to be so polite. I am the one who should be thanking you for giving birth to such a wonderful and cute daughter. Come! Come! I have cleaned the court yard out for you. The two of you can rest there. When Little Ruo, goes to the academy, you can just stay here with peace of mind. We have prepared many things for the both of you.”

Master seemed overjoyed. She had a big smile on his face as he turned and began leading the way. I really do not know what kind of luck I have to have gained him as a Master. He was beyond kind. Not only did he take me in as his disciple, but he also prepared a courtyard for my mother and me. It was beyond anything I could have imagined when I first left the village.

My original plan, while flawed in many ways, was to get an inn room and sell my pills. I would refine a batch of pills a night to sell the next day until I had enough money to buy a small courtyard for my mother.

There were many points I did not consider. Like safety, for instance. If I chose a bad part of town then my mother could have come to harm while I was away. There was also an issue with the two clans fighting one another. If, for some reason, they decided to fight in a place where my mother was located, she could end up hurt or, worse, die. There were too many risks I did not think about when I first decided on my plans that I am now reflecting on.

But with us being protected by the Heaven’s Pavilion, I no longer need to worry about any of that. Master seems to be a man of his word, which is a good thing. And as a purple-grade alchemist he would need to at least be a core formation cultivation.

“Here you are.” Master stopped in front of a half-moon door and opened it. Within was a cleaned stone path that led up to two different rooms. On the sides of the stone path were yinghua trees. Their colorful pink petals filled the courtyard with color. It was quite calming and relaxing.

There were even some areas that could be cultivated to grow herbs. It was really a nice place. On the right hand side, there was even a small man-made pond that had a bridge going over it. This place seemed a little too much to be given to us for free.

“Master, are you sure you wish to give us such a place?” I had to ask. It just felt too extravagant.

“Hmm? My disciples deserves the best! We may not have much here but this little courtyard is something I worked hard to clean up. Come, come. There are two rooms here. I already hired two little servant girls to help take care of your daily needs.” Master’s words made my head spin. I went from being poor, where I was forced to survive every day, to having two servant girls.

“Master…” I dropped to my knees and bowed my head.

“Little Ruo’er!? Why are you bowing to me!? Get up. As my disciple I will not treat you unfairly. You can think of yourself as the little princess of the Heaven’s Pavilion. I plan to hold a ceremony in the next few days to formally take you as my disciple. All the big names in town will be there. It is also a good way of making sure no one dares to lay their hands on you or your mother. I will have a seamstress here in the morning to have some proper clothing made. For now, Little Yi went out and got you some ready made clothing.”

I slowly got up in a daze and looked at my mother, whose eyes were turning red. I shook my head and held her hand squeezing it a few times as I smiled at her. “Mother, better days are already here.”

“Mmm!” My mother squeezed my hand back before bowing her head. “Master Xuan, thank you.”

“No need. No need. I am doing what I should do. Little Ruo’er, is a the disciple I have been searching for. She is so young but already a yellow-rank alchemist. Once you both have settled in I plan to have her take the test to become an official alchemist which will give her even more protection when she is in the academy. So you can rest at ease and live here comfortably. Now let me show you to your rooms.”

I once more pulled my mother along as we walked towards the first room. Our lives went from living in mud, huh, to living in a courtyard and even having servant girls. This was beyond anything I could have ever imagined. I would need to some how to repay Master for his grace of taking me in as his disciple and also taking us in and giving us a place to live where we could live without worry. This could be considered a life debt.
