Night's Watch : Sworn Brotherhood who hold and guard the Wall to keep the Wildlings (free folk who live beyond the wall) and White Walkers from crossing into the Seven Kingdoms. This is why Ned beheaded the guy in the beginning. As a sworn brother leaving the night's watch and the wall make you a deserter, which is punishable by death. Dothraki : Nomadic horse-mounted warriors in Essos, the continent to the east of Westeros (which is where the Seven Kingdoms are located) across the Narrow Sea. Locations : Winterfell - Northern Kingdom, seat and ancestral home of the Stark's. It is part of the Seven Kingdoms. King's Landing - Capital of the Seven Kingdoms, home of the King and Queen and the Iron Throne. The Wall/Castle Black - Homebase of The Night's Watch The Eyrie/Vale - Seat of House Arryn, part of the Seven Kingdoms.

I’m gonna rewatch this with you guys, can’t wait! Here’s a little breakdown so far: The Starks: Lord Eddard (Ned)- married to Lady Catelyn (Cat’s sister was married to Jon Arryn,the Hand of the King who just died) Jon Snow- not technically a Stark bc he’s a bastard Robb Sansa Arya Bran- the one pushed out of the tower Rickon The Lannisters: Queen Cersei- married to King Robert Baratheon Children- Joffrey, Myrcella, and Tommen Jamie- Cersei’s twin brother Tyrion- the dwarf (Their father was Hand of the King to the former King (Targaryen) for 20 years) The Targaryens: Viserys and Daenerys- their father was the King of the Seven Kingdoms before King Robert. He lost a war to Robert and Ned, and he was killed by Jamie Lannister. Now they are across the Narrow Sea from the Seven Kingdoms, and Viserys wants to go back with an army of the Dothraki and retake the crown. King Robert knows they are out there and wants to kill them, but Ned thinks he shouldn’t bother bc they don’t even have ships to cross the sea. P.S. do we have to blur out all the sex? Maybe you can put a parental advisory or something? Those are my favorite parts 😂

Highly recommend watching this with subtitles (if you’re not already doing that). There are many names, locations etc. that are hard to digest and retain, so the subtitles always helped me with processing and remembering the information. Just a suggestion.

I was just like you Asia, this was a show that I had never heard of and never planned to watch, but then we had a family gathering and my brother suggested that we check it out. After a few episodes, I was hooked and couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. I ended up binge watching it. The show was in season four when I started and got caught up pretty quickly. BJ was right when he mentioned it’s a game. There’s all kinds of plotting, lying and backstabbing from people to get what they want… to sit on the Throne. Lord Eddard (Ned) Stark and his wife Caitlyn (Cat) are one of the main families of the show. Ned has 6 children: Bran - the boy who was pushed Sansa- the pretty red haired girl Arya - the little tomboy girl Robb - he is the oldest and he was in the room when he saw the fire outside, you were correct when you saw those two young men hugging and wondered if they were brothers. They’re half brothers. Jon Snow - is Ned’s bastard son which is why Lady Stark wanted him to leave. Rickon - the last of Ned’s kids and he is the youngest at 6 years old. Because Jon is a bastard, he cannot use the Stark name and bastards born in the North use the name Snow. In other parts of this world bastards would be called River or Sand etc depending on where they were born. Jon Snow left WinterFell to join the Night’s Watch, who is a group of men who take an oath to protect the realm and he is stationed at the Wall where the men were stationed at the opening when they saw the dead bodies. The Lannister siblings Cersei pronounced (Sir-see) - the queen Jamie - the blonde who got in Ned’s face about being old, pushed Bran and yes, was seen by Bran having sex with his sister, the queen. Tyrion - the dwarf Robert Baratheon is the King and yes, he loved Ned’s sister, but she died years ago Targaryen siblings: The young guy with the very blonde hair is Viscerys. He arranged for his sister Daenerys (Dany) to marry Khal Drogo in exchange for Drogo’s Army to win back the throne. His father was king, but was killed and Robert Baratheon won the throne and forced Viscerys and Dany to flee, he wants to kill Viscerys and Dany to keep them from taking back the throne. Ned’s wife, Lady Caitlyn Stark (Cat) got that message from her sister that her husband, John Arryn, the previous Hand of the King was actually murdered by the Lannisters (the Queen and her two brothers) which was why she burnt the message. To answer your questions at the end: There are different storylines going on in different parts of this world at the same time. Ned Stark and his family live in a place called Westeros. WinterFell is a part of Westeros along with Kings Landing and other realms and Robert Baratheon is the king of the 7 different realms. Ned Stark agreed to be the next Hand of the King, so they were traveling down to Kings Landing which is the Capital and along that journey is when Arya’s wolf bit the prince (Joffrey) and she sent her wolf away, but as you said, the queen mentioned Sansa’s (the red haired sister’s) wolf Lady and Ned was forced to kill Lady. The other Stark children still have their wolves, Bran’s wolf killed the man who tried to kill him. The two blond siblings Viscerys and Dany were across the sea in a place called Pentos and the brother is trying to get an Army to take the throne back. The opening when those men found the dead bodies, they were members of the nights watch at the wall and they went beyond the wall to search for “wildlings” who are people who live beyond the wall and they found a group of wildlings who were killed and that one guy believed they were killed by White Walkers (We learn more about them) and he deserted his post and death is the consequence. I think that was everything so far. Using subtitles will help and watching the “previously on” will help as well to remind you of what’s happening.

Episode 1,2 of Season 1, I know, it's kind of luke warm, because the story is only starting, and they are introducing all the characters, places, factions, etc. So, it's kind of a slow start. But, like Breaking Bad too, you will get drawn into this with every episode after this!! :)

Regarding kingdoms, the opening credits, graphics and music show the various kingdoms on a map. King Robert Baratheon, who recruited Ned Stark to be his Hand, is a high king, meaning smaller kingdoms and lesser kings must pay him homage. He seized the Iron Throne from the House of Targaryen, and Aerys II was killed. Aerys’ surviving children, Visarys (son) and daughter Daenerys (“Dany”), are in exile but Visarys plots to retake the throne by marrying his sister to Khal Drogo, of the Dothrakis, in exchange for an army.

Such a great series. There are 4 main Houses here in the beginning - other houses are introduced in later seasons but these are the main 4 - I added the sigils here because it will help you during battles and just in general knowing which house they belong to -- the sigils are on their flags, armor, castles/houses, etc. The Starks - their sigil is the DIREWOLF as you know - Ned and Caitlyn (parents) - (Kids - Sansa, Arya, Bran, Rob, Rickon, and Jon Snow (Ned's bastard). The Starks reside in Winterfell. The Lannisters - their sigil is the LION - Jaime, Cersei, and Tyrion are all siblings. Cersei's kids - Joffrey, Tommen, Myrcella, and the son that died as an infant. The Baratheons - their sigil is the BLACK STAG - Robert Baratheon is the current king on the Iron Throne (Ruler of the Seven Kingdoms), his Queen is Cersei Lannister who is having sex with her twin brother Jaime Lannister who pushed Bran Stark out the window when they got caught. The Targaryens - their sigil is the THREE HEADED DRAGON - Daenerys and her brother Viserys who married her off to Khal Drogo so he could gain the Dothraki army because his plans are to go to King's Landing where Robert Baratheon sits as king of the Iron Throne and take it back - The Targaryens ruled the Seven Kingdoms before Robert. Can't wait for the next episodes, this is such a good series. I think you will like it more and more as the seasons go on. Lots of shock and awe to be sure.

I almost stopped watching it because of the way they killed the innocent direwolf, Lady. I cried so hard. Someone encouraged me to keep watching so I did. I too was shocked by the attitudes and language and violence, but you seem to have realized that was how things were. Different cultures and customs. Different religious beliefs and values. But there are people who are good hearted and those who are not and it is not difficult to figure out who is which.

There is no back then , it is a fictional place set at a medieval sort of level of development with magic & shit. I used to make bucks burning dvd's of stuff like this for cut the cord folks & seen almost & maybe absolutely everything from 1960- 2014. The author of this fantasy series, George R. R. Martin, (was he copying JRR Tolkien?), did lift some plot lines from the Wars of the Roses, a real life Medieval war to seize the English throne between two families, the House of York and House of Lancaster. Even the Houses of Stark and Lannister sound similar. I won’t give out details of what he copied until after you watch more.

I really hope people don't frigging spoil this for them. It's also a good idea to use the captions, makes it way easier to remember names and catch what people are saying. You could miss two lines of dialogue and then not know what the heck is going on later.

One thing you have to do for Game of Thrones is watch the intro/credits/song all the way through - don't skip it, please! Lot of fans love the intro part because the little toy-ish map thingy - it's a little different every time and there are clues in it, and they usually highlight which towns/kingdoms are important in the current epsiode. Plus, it is just really cool artwork. And the intro song is a really iconic part of the series - when you hear that playing you are stoked for it to start.

(And Asia, you are amazing, but pls pause the video and go take care of your eye instead of struggling and being distracted with it for like an hour. You're normally a very perceptive person but you missed so much because of that.) Pls get some moderators so you don't get spoiled. And hopefully they can explain the set up to you. I think you'll really get and love the show once it's formally setup for you without spoilers. Game of Thrones is amazing but the beginning can be confusing. It's a huge cast w a lot of backstory. You have to be fully there at least at the beginning to enjoy it. And if you do that I promise it will be among your greatest TV experiences.

First time I have ever joined anyone on thus platform. I had to see your reaction to this. So looking in the comments I didn't really see any tips for you. So here are some things that might help. Jamie and the Queen are brother and sister. - John Snow is a Stark. All baztardz in the "North" have the last name of Snow so they won't be mistaken as a true blood - There are 7 "Kindoms" Ned Stark is the Lord, or King, of the North. All 7 Kingdoms are ruled by King that sits on the Iron Throne in Kingslanding. - The White Walkers that are north of the Wall, the land, and all the other people North of the Wall (Called the Free Folk) are not part of the 7 Kingdoms.- The Night Watch protects the Wall. - Daenerys and the Dothraki are in lands that are across the sea and not part of the 7 Kingdoms either. I'm probably late with the info but I hope this helps some without giving away any spoilers lol Best Wishes !!!

Is it an America thing this blurring a soft-core sex scene or some other reason? Gutting to beheading and a wolf tearing out a throat is okay, but sex a step too far?
