(part 1 of 2)

Today I'm joined by Dakota (@DEEP_RED_BELLS) to discuss the musical group Death Grips. We talk about our personal experiences listening to them, the band's history and then discuss the band's familiarity with chaos magic(k). Then we get into some song analysis. I tended to focus on Exmilitary out of sheer familiarity with it but we do talk about various eras between the two episodes.

Finally, we ask the important question: folks, are Death Grips members of a "Mansonoid conspiracy"?

Note: I say 'sigil' weird in this; I know how it should be pronounced in general

When Part Deux?

I've always assumed, without any real proof, that besides rigor mortis, "Death Grips" as a band name refers to the phenomena, popularized by Dan Savage, whereby one is jerking off often enough to porn and with a "death grip" that one desensitizes oneself to the point where you can't cum with a partner. It seems to play into Death Grips' general obsession with the ways the internet shapes (largely for the negative) and distorts our lives. Again, I've never heard the band themselves say anything along those lines, it's a connection I've always drawn and it seems reasonable to me that people as online as the members of the band seem to be, they would know about this as well. Great show
