Trayce Jackson-Davis scouting report

Comments

Thanks for another scouting video Alc. Comparing TJD to Kris Murray, TJD has the advantage athletically but I think Kris is the better basketball player and fit for the Dubs right now. Speaking of the draft, Kevin O'Connor recently released a new mock with Colby Jones going to the Dubs at 19. I don't know if you'll have time to scout him before the draft, but what are your thoughts on him? Think it would be a good topic for the next pod.

athleticalchemy

Yeah it feels like 5 years from now will look back and say both he and Kris should a went late lotto. But we know teams are going to favor young upside. I’d prefer Kris for our roster, but I wouldn’t be disappointed if Trayce was the pick. I haven’t looked at any guards yet. 2 weeks to go I may have to do a guard comp video of a few in our range

Agreed. Regardless of who they pick, I just want them to pick someone who can contribute and play right away, and not another project to stash at the end of the bench. Only exceptions would be Lively or Miller, but there's a very good chance both will be gone by the time the Dubs pick at 19.

looks kinda stiff too, dk how he guards in space, rather trade the pick then do sth else than picking him. hope Lively falls to us

Jello Smooth

Lively will not fall. The writing on the wall is clear and I am sober. Because I want the warriors to draft a PF / C so bad... To be clear a PF/C that does PF/C and center things... Block shots, Rebounds, and puts little dudes in the basket when they get the ball in the paint. I would gladly draft TDJ or Miller.

Jello Smooth

Alch... who is the better athlete between Kris and Jet?

Connor H

You bringing up amari just made me realize how underrated he is today. Could you imagine him ballin in the modern nba? BBQ chicken

lots of great prospects.. I think we may have to use our pick bro

Anonymous

Not sure if you’ve watched tape on Scoot or Brandon Miller but who would you take with the number 2 pick and why?

athleticalchemy

Jet is more athletic in terms of getting his shot off. But Kris is probably the better athlete overall if you measured them out. And that really shows on the defensive end. But.. that gap from 19 to 23 a lot of progress can be made to the body.

athleticalchemy

It’s a deep draft.. plus the cap situation has become like football. We need rookie contract contributors

athleticalchemy

I’d take Scoot not because his ceiling is higher but because his floor is so much higher. I know that is opposite of how most think with that high a pick.

As a contender, you may only house a few young strays under the roof during a title window. Sure, we've seen a few games from rookie Christian Braun with the Nuggs, but how many rookies or even rookie contract players have been contributors throughout their season and playoff push? We even saw them unload their most promising young backcourt prospect in Bones simply for cultural reasons and to create more minutes for their two-way vets in Brown and KCP. With the last year's Celtics, how many young rookie contracts contributed? One in a serious way with Grant Williams and one in a smaller role with Pritchard. It's true, the Dubs need to find affordable and creative ways to fill out the roster slots 11-15 once the second apron restrictions are applied in the 2024-25 season, but a passion project at the 19th pick in the draft is still costly. Especially since Golden State already has a surplus of project pieces varying from athletic freaks to long hypothetical 3-n-D wings. The 2 to 4 young contributors are already in-house. Kuminga and Moody are the obvious two lottery picks, but PBJ, Rollins, and G-league-proven Lester Quinones and Gui Santos are players with upside and would cost significantly less than the 19th pick. The picks must be used as ammo in a package on the trade block. If you want development pieces, develop the surplus already in-house.

If we draft a project player - I’m throwing a fit. How’s a project going to help us in the playoffs? The max we can wait for a draft pick to develop is 1 year. That also means that Rollins and PBJ need to deliver this year or they are out. Dual timeline doesn’t work y’all. If you need to watch some young players then tune into the Magic, Houston, Spurs or the Pistons.

athleticalchemy

If you look at there workout list ton of SR. I doubt its a project unless they are treating it as an asset flip. A lotto talent slides

athleticalchemy

SR where you been?... No doubt plan A is trade for a vet. Easier said than done tho. Kris, Jackson-Davis, Jaquez there are plenty of intriguing grown men in our range and you look at there workout list its almost all older players.

some heavy family stuff, even had me miss the Warriors' last games and watch them days after the series had ended. Things have started to settle though. What are your thoughts on these prospects in the upcoming draft in comparison to Gui Santos, PBJ, and Lester? Santos' highlights are fucking wicked, but we know those highlights sometimes (most times) are deceiving. The two-man game of him and Quinones seems promising. Everyone keeps referring to trade The pick, but it really only has value when packaged with future unprotected picks. On Dunc'd on they said we can actually trade 4 picks if unprotected on the draft, 23, 26, 28, and 30 but it still seems confusing with the protections on the 2024 pick owed to Memphis. Regardless though, Poole plus, 2023, 2027, and 2029 can without a doubt bring in a big-time addition if the new front office is willing to overpay in draft equity. If only looking to trade the 2023 pick, I agree, might as well draft a ready-made rookie.

athleticalchemy

Sorry to hear that…. I’m not really counting PBJ as a viable rotation guy until he can stay healthy for a couple months. It’s not just the ankle, he seems like one of those it’s always something guys (AD syndrome) I really liked what I have seen from Gui. But I like all the guys I have looked at so far better than those two. To be fair I have chosen guys I am intrigued with.

Honestly, it's possible they could have both since the 2027 and 2029 unprotected picks have exponentially more value than the upcoming 19th pick in the draft. And though Indiana likes Turner on his new team-friendly extension and OG seems to be valued more internally than what was offered at the deadline, nobody has ever offered 2 unprotected future firsts for either of those B/B+ talents. And it's arguably a huge overpay in draft capital, but future equity to gamble on the draft board is irrelevant to the window and either of those who could juice the frontcourt, especially if Draymond is retained as well. Agreed on PBJ, also didn't like how flat the shot looked at the end of the year while he was dealing with whatever he was dealing with that week. Also, think in a trade he may still be seen as a plus to be added in as a sweetener. The Lively kid looks sick, a young mature 5 could be an interesting use of the pick for sure.

Great report Alch!

Anonymous

yup, that's my concern with him. He's so upright. I really wonder how he can guard.

Anonymous

Alch with the reports that Kuminga is on the trading block, and considering that Steph said he wanted to become Scoots mentor, is it possible this is all gonna result in a trade for the 3rd draft pick giving away kuminga and maybe some other stuff for Scoot? I’m worried and excited this could happen

Anonymous

Let me recede my statement, Kuminga isn’t on the trading block per se but the warriors have considered trading him

Anonymous

Whos here after we got him

Prophetic

Connor H

Way more excited about this cat then the jack Harlow looking mf. Just hope he is closer to John collins then Jordan bell lol

Jansen E

Because of his lack of offensive game, I’m kinda scared he is just a better Bell and a worse Collins. I need to see his defense and BBIQ though

Daniel Fries

Somebody in the organization is watching your vids

Carla Davis

Hey Alc, did you know that Tracye Jackson Davis is the son of Dale Davis? I never heard you mention it, at least I don't think, so this is why I asked. This explains his aggressiveness to me.

Carla Davis

Did he? 😆 smh, and I watched the video. My mind most have been somewhere else. Thanks.
