Loved the pod, Alch. The part with JP's trainer was fire. I think something that's super underrated in all this is JP's ability to learn. I am a teacher of sorts myself (nothing related to sports), and a large part of learning is being able to unlearn the bad habits. This is the part that's actually tough, and JP seems to be doing this in really good time. Think about how meteoric his rise in shooting percentages was. And think about how little time he had to actually improve it (just two off seasons and half a season in the G League). Draymond on his pod today mentioned JP's "irrational confidence," and that has a lot to do with this growth.

great point.. and thats the thing with trainers. You either get it or you don't, after that its kinda up to the student. No magic bullets.

Great podcast. Hey I love Jordan Poole but someone needs to tell him to change his shoes. He wears the kobes and no one wants to mention this. They are not bad shoes but I don't think they fit HIS style of play. I thought it was something wrong with chase center's floor but it's not jordan slips everywhere he plays. I think its his style of play and he needs a grippy-er shoe. I'm afraid he is going to get hurt or it has also been the cause of turnovers. Just something I've been thinking about.

This is a tricky one. Very grippy shoes for explosive players can mean you stick landings after dunks and layups way more than you want to, and it's led to injuries in the past. I think the slipping is also how absolutely horizontal the guy gets going around screens and turning directions.

damn that was tight. loved this

Carla Davis

Good point I didn't think about that aspect. It is tricky because I would think he would also not want to slip so much but maybe he is having to choose the lesser of 2 evils

athleticalchemy

Yeah he try’s to bend corners at extreme angles.. but he could use a shoe with that upper inner toe grip like the kyries

Jeez that was an amazing pod! Grateful for everyone involved in getting that interview. Really enlightening perspective, you can understand why players/trainers have a bag first mentality as he mentioned jamal craford and boogie's careers in that context. Im going to have to relisten to those lines he drops on jp's in and out. Really valuable stuff TY Alch!! Also yall se javale pick lukas pocket then dribble coast to coast for the jam?

Fuck the grizzlies. Might be the most pissed of I’ve ever been in sports. We lost GP2 man

I been saying FUCK the grizzlies. This shit don't surprise me, that's the moral fabric of this team. They was all dapping brooks up after that. They deserve no love or success. They the new Houston. Period.

Anonymous

I hate them more than Houston somehow, Houston was whiny and cheap but they weren't blatantly dirty

The warriors vs grizzlies game 1 peaked more than the Disney nba finals. Which says to me they will try to push the warriors to the finals.

Mannnnn....GP2 will be missed!! But mostly feel sorry for the guy. He was destined to have some great moments in this playoff run.

Hey Alc, around the 34 minute mark, the trainer says that the wing players should post right up on the sideline to stretch the defender. I wonder, does it ever make sense for the wing to hang out out of bounds, quickly establishing inbounds when the ball comes to him? He’d theoretically have more places to catch the ball, since the one place he isn’t catching - where he is - is out of bounds.

Honestly i think his trainer definitely has his best interest at heart. I would tell JP the same shit. Get the bag, let them know who you are.

athleticalchemy

There goal is currently the same. But it doesn’t always stay that way. You always here players say the NBA “it’s a business” … so is training

athleticalchemy

But to be fair idk! They could be childhood friends and it could be a super pure relationship. Just when he talked about adding to his bag. Too me, JP bag plenty big. I wouldn’t be focused on his ball handling. Again it’s a business as well. You want to be kept around
