First time being first?

Anonymous

Oh boy here we go

Anonymous

Despite the somewhat low efficiency, i think steph is finally breaking out of the slump: he's starting to wet some of the threes he was previously bricking

Anonymous

Wiggins ought to be going to the hoop and searching for contact, but he seems satisfied with stepback jumpers.

Anonymous

I can't recall a championship team ever losing a game like this, especially at home. This team has "fraud" written all over them. I guess it's fine once you accept they've been overachieving. But all the momentum has come crashing down, Steph isn't the same player, and teams are reading all their offensive actions now. I no longer have expectations this year, and the playoffs will be fun with no expectation. Hope they can get one more ring in the next 3-4 years with this core. 30-35 games is not enough time for the core to get their chemistry back anyways.

Anonymous

For now, I think we’ll just have to expect them to win and lose at last season’s pace for the time being. With the injuries and the reintegration of Klay, we may not see the team play consistent basketball again until like March.

Anonymous

Pacers shot 43% from 3 bucks 44% from 3 Memphis 41% 3. Over helping on defense leaving dudes wide open. Draymond covers up so much of this bs.

Musab imran

those lineup choices were atrocious

Anonymous

dude, it is only one game!!! we dont have green, Klay still searching his shooting. Wait until everyone is health.

Anonymous

I think this is the worst loss of the year imo

AK

This game was so damn tough to watch. At one point, they must have had a string of 4 alley-oops with JTA in there. And don't get me started on Bjelica. Brought in to be a shooter first, playmaker second. Yet, he hesitates on every decent look he gets and is a sieve on defence. That wasn't the case necessarily in this game but we've had a huge sample size of that. Smdh, obviously they can turn it around but man @ least its pretty obvious how much draymond means to both the offence and defence

Anonymous

We turned it over and every 3 they shot went in and every 3 anyone not named curry shot missed for us, if literally just 3 of those 3s fall we win comfortably. On top of that the refs were doing that thing they do for almost every nationally televised game and started a barrage of whistles every time one team got up by 7 or 8 just to keep it close. With all the bs our roster is going through this doesn't concern me at all, just win enough to get a top 4 seed and hopefully we'll have a decently healthy roster

Siddhant S

Boy the help defence slider needs to go down to 10, we’re at 110 right now. SMH

Anonymous

I could really feel the frustration in your voice with this one. I don't blame you

Anonymous

That one was a little painful to watch. Maybe Kerr just went with Juan T to 'keep him ready' and make him feel like more than a bench warmer. Silver lining was really to see that Steph had a pretty efficient game and shows signs of coming out of the slump.

Thomas Ogas

Been sitting here waiting for this to drop. Good that they lost, but fearful that this won't be a "wake up call" that we think it will be. Because we all know (fans, management, players) that they have a damn good squad that plays a near unstoppable brand of basketball. We've seen it for 2+ months. This recent ho-hum blah brand of lazy execution is about effort/focus, not talent. But it does highlight one of the Warriors biggest problems. They are not "more talented" than most other NBA teams. They win with focus and effort. If that's not there, then it's an L. AND if key guys are out of the rotation, it seems to be really hard for them to lock in and play their roles.

Anonymous

Maybe I'm overreacting but Idc, Pooh Shiesty had me ready to rip my tv outta the wall at points especially when he missed that layup at the end of regulation... Smoking a cig in the cold after I told myself I quit, talking to myself saying they deserved to lose smh lol this is one anxiety inducing team smhhhh...

Anonymous

There's just no excuse for Kerr to not put either GP2 or Kuminga in the 4th smh

Anonymous

Your comment about curry’s mental is concerning I see it too, you just have to wonder. I’ve seen him on the bench plenty at at time he does look like he’s in lala land but idk lately man you gotta wonder

Ezra Abbey

dubs acting like they won the chip before the all star break, shit is crazy, i feel like draymond gives us that fuel and without him we have no vocal leader/heart. gonna be an interesting few weeks...

Anonymous

Another character building loss, my only concern is that it's gonna be a whole new adjustment once Dray gets back, and then again with Wiseman. Just really hoping we can get some consistency with the rotations in the final two months of the regular season. I think JPoole is in the frustration period of the role adjustment, reverting back to his old ways a bit. Still not worried with his work ethic though. As for the final regulation play, hopefully this is the last time Kerr chooses not to foul while up three. Steph deserves blame for losing his man, but if they foul Jackson after that inbound then they're celebrating a win. Also, why didn't Steve sub out Steph for GP2 on that play??? We still had a timeout left if we needed to get him back in the game. He's always all about "valuing every possession" at the end of quarters, but not at the end of the fucking game???

Anonymous

The first step to solving any problem is recognizing that there is one. So in light of that, I'm just going to point out what I think is a big flaw of some of our players that is not heavily discussed, in hopes that someone relays this to the warriors organization and corrects it. Wiggins settles a lot; he needs to take shots he knows he can make, not take shots that is a maybe. He needs to use his physical gifts to try to get to his spots. Also, he always misses by being short and hitting the front of the rim. Poole should always take advantage of his quick first step, he should always look to slash in if he isn't initially open when he gets the ball, if he doesn't shed his man, it will for sure break down the other team's defense a little bit and then his playmaking can shine through. He should also just keep it simple, do one move and burst to the paint. DLee overhelps towards the paint too much, and it always results in a wide open 3, and he's useless in the paint besides helping on rebounds. JTA also has the same problem, leaves a corner shooter open too often to help in the paint. Offensively, I think it's just all in his head. These are just my opinion, but I notice this happen at every game and it's frustrating.

Anonymous

Since Kerr knows GP2 is a proven commodity, maybe he wanted to see if Juan T can be relied upon when its crunch time. And resist the temptation to overuse GP2 and save him for the playoffs. Just a thought. I wonder if he'll try this with Kuminga next

Anonymous

Turners outfit was damn atrocious. What is the point of having a lot of money for outfits if your fashion sense sucks?

Anonymous

Feels like Kerr desperately wants JTA to be mini-Draymond with the way he lets JTA initiate stuff on offense.

Anonymous

Not fouling while up 3. How many times has that come back to bite us? The ball even went to the guy who was damn near 50% from the line last night, and kerr doesn't foul!!

Dami I

games like these make me wish we'd fire kerr

Anonymous

Exactly, Jackson was struggling all night from the ft line. Kerr always does this bro.

Anonymous

I mean tonight he's probably like, I'm giving you 39 and we're still in a close game with the damn Pacers?

Anonymous

I agree with your take at the end. This team has no business winning that game with how lack luster of a focus they entered it with. Even though it was the worst loss for this team in a very long time, I think they really needed to be hit in the mouth. This isn't 2015-2019 where they can just come to the arena half-assed and expect to win... they are a completely different team, timeline, league, etc. from those years. Kerr has been really weird with rotations throughout the year, he always love to give random bench guys their moment, and that's his fatal flaw.

Anonymous

Word going around Kerr benched him the second half because of getting that tech on lance

Anonymous

"smoking a cig in the cold after i told myself to quit" im fucking dead bro lmao

Anonymous

This isn’t the 2016-19 era….you don’t have to play a flawless offense to win the chip…bucks were and are still meh sometimes….i think we have a solid team not a great one…we can win in the playoffs…kerr just need to figure out his playoffs rotations…he can’t have wig, klay and curry on the bench…that’s simply not possible….

Andreas Wiedemann

I was only able to watch the last 5 mins and overtime, but shit it was ugly. At the end of close games they seem not to know what to do. And I seen this before also with draymond on the floor. there was 1 instance when wiggs got an open 3 passed it up, drove and kicked it to jta who missed a worse 3...It just felt like wiggs wasnt mentally ready in this moment. I think this is an aerea where he has to take over, because he can score in iso situations. also poole in ot. he looked like he was already in the shower. If kuminga was there and he gets an offensive foul on the last layup, im good with it but this was hard to watch and i think kuminga just hammers the win home..

Paul Hanson

Great breakdown Uncle Alch. Here's a quote from Bay Area columnist Monte Poole that seems to be true and I hope it indeed is: "‘Don’t talk to me right now. Don’t talk to me. I’m gonna go sit in my car and sulk.’ -Warriors CEO Joe Lacob, after a cordial fist bump, on his way out of Chase Center tonight. Damn right! I would do that too or scream at somebody if I owned this team. The energy, the vibe, the feel on this team is literally nearly all gone from those halcyon days of November. Never mind the 2015 team's young pup energy. The core of that energy is Stephen Curry-and something's up with that energy even when he has a decent if not efficient night. It seems as if he knows somethings not right. There's a fine line between finding that old 2015 'share the ball, turn down good shot for a great shot' mentality and realizing that 'we're living in the past. It's all in how they play-almost not even about an opponent. Any team can be any other team-any team can lose to any other team. It's all about taking every opponent completely seriously and not assuming you can just waltz in there and win-as if KD is there to bail you out. As if David West is there on the inside to lay a beating on someone. They aren't good enough to just waltz in there-obviously their shooting hasn't really happened-and they neet to let Kuminga play on the inside more throughout the entire game. I totally agree that JTA is being a very marginal NBA player right now-it was almost that his story last year was good enough to whet the appetite of the Dubs fan in a year where they weren't going anywhere anyway. Damion Lee has never been one of my favorite players-he has won some big games with clutch shooting in some games but...GPII is a real dynamic force. Much more dynamic. than Lee. Again-the main problew was attitude towards the opponent. They are not good enough to survive not taking the opposition seriously. Their first bunch of games are not the true barometer of how good they are. They had that 8 game homestand and that may have set up false expectations. We will see soon. Having Draymond back obviously changes things becuase you then will have Draymond yelling his ass off and that would be an im,provement over the smooth jazz approach this roster often takes to seemingly lesser opponents.

Anonymous

To add to coaching decisions in the moment, I wonder how vocal Mike Brown (D chief) was about GPII, JK to close game, fouling at end of regulation, etc...Yes, Kerr is openly taking blame right after the game, but I'd like to also hear from Brown and Steph on last play of regulation, among other choices/mistakes. I'm deeply confused on why JK sat most/all of the 2nd half after going 5/6 from line, 5 boards, and 3 assists in first half, on top of solid and improving D. Thanks AA!

Anonymous

Is it possible that Kerr is “light years ahead” in terms of playing JTA down the stretch? As far as his code to give the vets the first crack so he can say to JTA, look we want you to be Drey lite but you ain’t it, now it’s Kumingas turn? Like he knows if we lose this it ain’t the end of the world and it’s important to sort the pecking order in a “fair” way? Let the results speak for themselves and make adjustments off that?

Anonymous

It boggles my mind, if we can see it why can't Kerr, he continues to ride with Juan T and belly instead of gp2 and JT. Kerr has been a great coach over the years but his man management this year has been awful

Anonymous

I have a question Alc. So apparently, Steve benched Kumings for some of his defensive lapses( A few missed rotations was all I saw). I get Kerr is trying to instill discipline in Kuminga and teach him that he has to always be locked in defensively when he's in the game. But I feel like this approach could frustrate Kuminga and maybe even cause a strain in his relationship with Kerr. Like the dude is already one of the best scorers on the team. And I know he must feel a type of way getting benched for a few defensive mistakes while having to watch Bjelicia and Lee make even more engregious defensive mistakes and not getting that same treatment.

Major Powers

Nice breakdown of Steph blowing defensive assignments. I only saw the last one live.

Natto Santo

Fxxx JTA, his fundamental is so bad, he needs to go back to middle school and learn how to dribble and not travel. I am done with this clown. I do not care to win any more. Just don't let any of these dumbass clown to play and I can take any L.

Anonymous

Is it a bad idea if we go back to the switch everything strat when our starters sit and we are on our second lineup against heavy pick n roll teams? We already have a size problem, so why not just go small(or medium). Let the other team's big be their main scorer. I think it's the lesser of evils. I just notice our defense breaks down too much against pick n rolls. Even if there's no miscommunication, pick n rolls gives an angle advantage to the opponent, and that's why I think we get in foul trouble; The helper gets a bit out of position and end up having to foul to not give up an easy basket. Anyway, it's just an idea.

Hg80

Good point made at the end Alch; we’re too cocky, the FO and the coaching staff act like we’re unbeatable. We have some serious flaws to rectify before we can act like true contenders.

Natto Santo

I think Steph and JTA are the ones that leave the other team open a lot

Anonymous

Here's my theory on Steph's slump: It all started when the race to 2974 began. This solidified in Steph's mind that he was finally approaching his goal of beating Ray. As long as he was chasing Ray, he had motivation to play. He had something to compare himself to. And so to extend the chase for as long as possible, he subconsciously starts missing shots, tanking his % and adding just a few more games to the chase. He finally catches Ray at MSG and quickly realizes that what he feared most was true: His motivation to play the game was to beat Ray, and now that that's over, he's finding it very difficult to care about these games. Even that motivational speech he was giving on the sidelines during this game looked like he barely cared. Until Steph finds a new reason to play, I'm afraid he's going to look like this - 3 mediocre games followed by a relatively efficient 1. It's possible the playoffs wake him up, or Klay gets back to himself and forces Steph to compete with him to give him motivation.

Anonymous

Y’all see Steph arch his back when he fell with like 25 seconds left in the fourth? When he got that and one. I think Alch right, dude might be nursing some injury. It looked like when his tailbone was still broken and he was playing through it. The local channel showed a good replay Maybe Kerr is banking on Young Glove’s consistency come the post season. Has YG come out once and looked unprepared? Kerr has to know that Juan looking like a shell of himself this season so maybe he’s willing to let Juan shit himself during in January to see if he can right himself by post season and then give him a much shorter leash. No idea what’s up with Beli over Kuminga though…

Natto Santo

Kerr: Why not foul when we are leading by 3? why benching Kuminga?

Natto Santo

Steph fake effort on helping defense is spotted. Also DLee dumb effort on D,causing dumbass foul.

Natto Santo

I would rather we lost to HOU then seeing JTA playing one more minute.

Anonymous

Yup, well said Alc. Frustrating game all around, regardless of the final score. A loss is a loss, but this stung more considering Indy was without practically it's entire starting lineup. Steph finally had a good game, yet he blew the rotation on the Holiday 3 (though to be fair, it should have been GP2 out there considering Steph had played the entire 4th). This better be a wakeup call for tonight's game. Hopeful to bounce back tonight, but Houston just beat the Mitchell-less Jazz, so who knows.

Anonymous

I kind of missed those Steph lapses on defense so that was a good catch. I remain convinced however that Kerr's decision to not foul when up 3 cost us a chance to win this game. I know we play great D so there is all the reason in the world to trust it most of the time. But damn with so much money and effort put into building these teams I remain mystified that simply taking chance out of the equation is the correct decision every time. You up 3, you foul and just remove any chance they have to tie the game. At the end of the day I agree with you though Alch we needed to lose this game if only so that maybe Kerr and the FO are motivated to do something before the deadline. If they literally just fall back on things will be good when Dray gets back then I don't know what to say.

athleticalchemy

I think for certain matchups that would be better.. say Houston tonight no real big. But let’s say Sabonis did play last night, a guy like that would just punish the switch on the glass if not getting the post and seal. But you did say bench to be fair

Jimmy Ji

Interestingly, Draymond was not courtside for tonight's game. Kerr was simply outcoached tonight by Carlisle. He deserves the most blame especially considering how these two teams played in Indiana back in December. We managed to sneak out a last minute victory but it appears Kerr forgot all about that. Kerr was ill-prepared to coach this game and I hope Joe Lacob chewed his ass out after this debacle.

athleticalchemy

Let’s not get carried away.. but he definitely seems to have regressed to where he should be break glass in emergency

athleticalchemy

Shades of Cweb Nellie.. I think JK is far less entitled tho. But you are right this is probably the number 1 thing that causes issue with a young guy and coach. Being held to a different standard then others

Anonymous

Tbh I don’t think we need to make a move unless it’s getting someone for JTA and The Cheese, but we’re already struggling to find minutes for everyone. I think the recents struggles boil down to 3 things: No Draymond, Klay trying to re-establish himself, and Curry going through God knows what in his personal life. I also think u been hating on big belly tooo much. I mean he don’t look pretty, but he is one of the best rebounders on the team. I think he’s only second to Looney in terms of % of rebounds. I think the biggest mistake of this game was not letting Kuminga play more. He had so much energy in the 1st quarter. I think we as warrior fans have gotten spoiled, and we’ve lost the ability to have any patience through adversity. I think as long as Curry can get past whatever the fuck is happening and Klay settles in we’ll be fine. But idk that’s just my two cents.

Anonymous

The three point shooting is clearly a problem that needs to be addressed, hopefully bob answers the bell. Why didn’t we foul at the end of regulation though??

SAOpp

Alch, question about Kuminga. It seems to me that when he runs up the court (without the ball) he has a really short stride. Almost like a shuffle. Do you notice that? How does that affect him when he has the ball in his hands and makes a basketball move? Does it help him stay in control? Give it a look tonight.

Anonymous

Funny thing is Kerr said post game that he was a foul guy at that situation. I don't believe it! We had like 3 losses last season because we don't foul when we needed to seal the win. They could have fouled as soon as the Pacers got the ball inside. What a tough loss to swallow.

athleticalchemy

Good point.. will never know, but feels like if Atkinson was on the bench we’d a seen a different rotation.

athleticalchemy

If we know one thing.. Lacob ain’t having it! That makes me feel better about the situation. But you are right, the energy is off.. and starts with Steph

athleticalchemy

It seems like they are waiting for Steph to bail them out. We know you have to force feed Wiggs

athleticalchemy

It’s as if he knows what it’s like to sit on the end of a bench.. he’s got a soft spot for those guys. I know Kerr was no scrub.. but at times he was a bench Warmer

athleticalchemy

Great recognition Adrian! Spot on with all those.. now that you mention Dlee.. he is the biggest culprit in over helping

Philip Heston

That Ayesha joke had me dying 😂😂

Bailey

FOUL UP 3. Keep Kuminga & GP2 in the game. Coaching staff chose to make it harder on themselves. Always. Every. Single. Time. No Draymond means there's no floor general. They can't skip practice. For a 6'2" guy, Steph is exerting excessive energy on defense. The shooters on other teams don't. Just like last season players are utilized incorrectly or in the game at the wrong time. I read this season the coaching staff is relying on the analytics crew more than ever. They've crunched the numbers and want the team to shoot more 3s. Somehow this results in a team-wide shooting slump??? Fuck the data and just hoop.

ethospathostacos

I never comment, or like to complain, but man, the reffing was so inconsistent last night. There were some ticky tacky calls against both teams, but it seemed that Indiana was really getting the benefit of the doubt. That JTA layup was smoked, sure, but there was a lot of contact that play that had just been called against GS like 3 minutes beforehand.

Anonymous

This roster actually needs Kuminga to win games. Sure there’s a steep learning curve for him, but Kerr needs to change his approach to Kuminga, or make the same mistake Del Harris did with Kobe. Also, GP2 is the type to swing a game in the playoffs on his own.

Bailey

Crazy thing is he has a stylist (Ian Pierno) lol

Anonymous

We need to see whole lot more JK and Moody. and less D-Lee, Beli, and JTA. We are struggling with shooting, so why not give Moody some run to see if he can help us? I like Moody, but having seen Duarte play on several occasions, I cant help but wonder how good he would have looked coming off our bench. Just had to last one more pick, but that's how it goes sometimes. Having said that, Moody needs to get some run to see if he can help us this year.

Anonymous

Foul. Up. 3.

Anonymous

This game was frustrating to watch. In a game where steph shot well, nobody else showed up. Idk why kerr insists with giving JTA that many minutes when he's been flat out bad this season. GP2 or Kuminga should have closed that game.

Anonymous

Man, i'm so fucking sick of seeing JTA. Dude, literally doesn't have a brain just does shit and sometimes it works. Plus DLee and Belli, if they aren't hitting shots they are practically useless.

John Z

Prisoner of the mind shit I swear Kerr.

Anonymous

Our no.2 defensive rating is overrated/deceiving, we give up open threes like no other teams in the league (maybe only detroit is worse than us).

Anonymous

Even without Draymond, the Warriors should have won this one. I thought it was a poorly coached game. I know Klay may not like it, but Poole should be starting right now. Poole seems to be struggling off of the bench. Anderson wasn't able to score at all. Why not give Moody a shot? They need to make a change. I mentioned this previously, but a trade for Valančiūnas for Wiseman and Moody. The Warriors weren't really going to develop either one of them either way. Wiseman may not even make it back before the playoffs regardless. Moody is too good not to be playing more. If he was drafted by the Pacers, he would be starting. The Pelicans get more young talent they can try to grow because Zion is one foot out of the door. I think this is a win-win.

Also just wanted to mention I love the content and look forward to every post!
