As wonderful and beloved as this movie is, the film that beat it at the Oscars for Foreign Language Film is incredible - "The Lives of Others" (Das Leben der Anderen). I wish more people would react to or at least watch it.

Pan is the same as Faun. It's the difference as between Zeus (Greek) and Jupiter (Roman). It's also where the naming origin for the pan flute, since he's heavily associated with this style of flute. Although, his depiction here reminded me a lot more of Celtic folklore and less of how he is characterized in his mediterranean origin. But if the Mrs. didn't enjoy this one, she won't like any of the other Guillermo del Tor movies either. :(
