I'm so glad you're watching this one, too. That said, a word of advice : you have seen "The Haunting of Hill House" and this is more of the same in terms of storytelling. So, if Mike Flannagan shows/tells you something, he's doing it for a reason. - and not necessarily the reason you might think. As with "The Haunting of Hill House", this show will be very rewarding in a re-watch since there is so much stuff that you'll see with a different perspective the second time.

With "The Haunting of Hill House", I love the story the most. With "The Haunting of Bly Manor", I love the characters the most.

Watching your analysis, it looks like you might have forgotten that there were multiple references to the parents dying "abroad", not at the house.
