Hey folks - if you follow Patreon much or support a number of projects, you've probably heard this already, but since I don't want anyone taken by surprise, be aware that Patreon will be changing their payment structure soon. Up until now, creators have been responsible for paying all payment processing fees out of their pledge amounts, usually ranging between 5-10% of the total pledge value (some quick math indicates that this is about 6.8% of Coup's total pledges so far).

Starting soon, it will be patrons paying for these fees rather than creators. This means more funding for project commissions, but at a higher price for our supporters. Tier amounts will be roughly:

  • $1 - $1.38 (38% more)
  • $2 - $2.41 (20%)
  • $5 - $5.50 (10%)
  • $10 - $10.64 (6%)

I know this may cause some people to choose to cancel their pledges, and it's a particularly (relatively) large increase for those in the $1-$2 range. However, I do of course hope you'll stick around and keep supporting; our project is at the level where literally every dollar that comes in is a cause for celebration, and a 6.8% loss or gain is nothing to sneeze at.

While I don't talk much about the project's financial details, I do want to note that I've not made any money off of Coup and quite likely never will - everything's been reinvested in commissions and assets, along with a fair bit of change from my own pocket. That said, reaching self-sufficiency in funding is still one of my major goals for the project, and every bit helps bring us closer to that being a reality. For everyone who chooses to support the project - Thank you!
