Undoubtedly, Major Dutch held a high position among this group of soldiers.

After he gave the order, Sun Cheng could tell that although others were concerned about the danger in the woods, none of them stood up to challenge his command.

Private Hopkins took out a bottle of unidentified drink from his tactical pouch and chugged it down. Immediately, he burped, and the strange combination of ginger and carbonation stimulated those around him to move away.

Black Sergeant Mike raised a heavy machine gun, indicating his good relationship with the chewing tobacco-loving machine gunner. Before leaving, he gave him a slight smile.

The three of them quickly entered the woods, but just a minute later, they all came out with gloomy expressions on their faces.

"Let's go..."

Major Dutch ordered coldly, "Pick up the pace and reach the research center as quickly as possible!"

Another African-American soldier in the team, Dillon, approached him without much tact and asked, "Where are the people?"

Major Dutch only gave him a cold glance without turning his head and continued walking to the front of the team.

Dillon felt a bit uneasy with Major Dutch's dismissive look and his chest heaved rapidly.

Black Sergeant Mike walked up to him, perhaps unable to bear seeing another person of the same race with an unpleasant expression. He quietly answered on behalf of Major Dutch, "We couldn't find Bernard inside. We followed the trail and found a tree with a pool of blood..."

He paused before continuing, "There were also some entrails and chunks of flesh..."

After speaking, he angrily took off his hat, held it in his hand, and gave it a hard shake before shouldering the machine gun and conscientiously walking to the back of the team.

Sun Cheng looked at the African-American soldier, Dillon, with interest. In him, he faintly saw the same utilitarianism and calculations as himself.

However, the difference between the two was that this Dillon, whose identity was unknown, had sensed from the beginning, when Sun Cheng first joined the team, that he was subtly being excluded and lacked the ability to stealthily hide like Sun Cheng.

But Sun Cheng quickly withdrew his scrutinizing gaze to avoid provoking the soldiers in the team. He quietly continued leading the way for them.

Having lost another soldier along the way, not to mention catching the culprit, Major Dutch was undoubtedly frustrated and angry. While urging the team to move faster, he was diligent in his duties, frequently patrolling with his gun.

Half an hour later, after Sun Cheng and the others emerged from a forested area, a brightly lit building appeared on the flat grassland.

The terrain on Nubra Island was very complex, with undulating hills, tree-covered mountaintops, sprawling canyons, and low grasslands. There were also lakes and streams. The research center happened to be located in a flat grassy area.

"We've arrived. That's the research center over there..."

Sun Cheng pointed excitedly to the five-story building not far away.

Finally, they had arrived safely!

Along the way, the radio had vibrated several times, but Major Dutch's constant pacing and patrolling made it difficult for Sun Cheng to discreetly use his Bluetooth earpiece to inquire about the situation. However, it was certain that danger was lurking around them, most likely from the covert unit.

Major Dutch raised his hand in a clenched fist, signaling the team to stop in unison.

He then raised his binoculars and carefully observed the research center for a while, as if assessing its safety.

After a while, he gave new instructions, "Move forward and reach the research center as quickly as possible..."

"Roar..."

Private Harun, upon hearing the words, let out an excited roar.

The other soldiers were no less pleased, as joy flickered across their faces.

Despite the distance from where Sun Cheng encountered them to the research center being only four or five kilometers, the terrain on the island was extremely complex. They had crossed several small hills and ridges, passed through two forests, and endured a downpour for over an hour before reaching their destination.

After being drenched in heavy rain for so long, even their sturdy bodies couldn't take it. Now, not only was Sun Cheng pale, but most of the others were rapidly losing their energy and their condition was deteriorating. Without finding a place to rest and recover, their bodies would give up, even if there were no other threats looming over them.

Therefore, upon receiving Major Dutch's command, everyone immediately hastened their pace towards the research center. They covered several hundred meters in just a short two to three minutes.

"The research center is the most well-equipped facility on the island, with offices, security, and dining all located here..."

Upon finally arriving at the research center and just stepping onto the stairs, Sun Cheng happily spoke up.

After speaking, he eagerly removed the curtain that had been wrapped around him all along. It was wet and heavy from absorbing so much rainwater.

However, he quickly realized that without its help in shielding him from the rain, given his physical condition, he would have collapsed by now. Besides, it could also conceal some of his subtle movements.

So after giving it a twist, Sun Cheng continued to drape the curtain over himself. It might not be elegant, but it still had some use.

Upon hearing him mention food, everyone swallowed in unison.

It's not advisable to eat immediately after exercise, but it depends on the situation.

Having run several kilometers in heavy rain, their bodies had not only lost a significant amount of heat but also expended energy. For any living creature, there was no more effective means of replenishing energy and restoring condition than eating.

Sun Cheng also touched his stomach and, although he had just had dinner three hours ago, he could feel a warm sensation in his stomach. Clearly, the exercise had accelerated the digestion of the food.

"Wait..."

Native American soldier Billy, who was the first to enter the research center, had just crossed the door and entered the lobby on the first floor when he immediately noticed something. He raised his weapon in an Onslaught-like posture and made a gesture for the others behind him to halt and be on guard.

"What's wrong?" Major Dutch cautiously approached and asked.

Billy didn't speak but pointed to a patch of gray-brown on the ground ahead. Major Dutch's face slightly changed as the experienced soldier immediately recognized it as bloodstains.

After making a gesture to cover Billy, he walked over, crouched down carefully, and reached out to touch the bloodstain, rubbing it between his fingers. Then he brought it to his nose and sniffed. "It's human blood, left not long ago, no more than an hour!"

Seeing only the bloodstains but no bodies, Major Dutch's mind raced. He then noticed two long drag marks extending from the bloodstains, with blood droplets along the way, indicating that the bodies had been dragged into the research center.

"There's trouble, prepare for combat!"

After standing up, Major Dutch coldly gave the command, his face flashing with determination.

It had only been a few hours since they parachuted onto Nubra Island, and he had already lost three soldiers under his command. This infuriated Major Dutch, who had prided himself on his zero-death record over the years.

Leaving aside how many other things were lurking on the island, the fact that his men died on the island was undeniable. Now, in what was supposed to be a safe research center, seeing bloodstains once again, Major Dutch burned with anger and silently vowed that those damn beasts would pay the price!

"Billy, Harun, come with me to take a look... Mike, Blaine, provide cover fire... Everyone, stay vigilant..."

After quickly giving the orders, Major Dutch took out several concussion grenades from his backpack and attached them to his waist for easy access. Once done, he took the lead and began tracing the bloodstains into the research center.

Sun Cheng silently followed in the group, and just within a minute of entering the research center, his Revenge, nestled in his arms, vibrated three or four times in succession, indicating that something important needed to be reported to him.

Just as he was thinking of finding an opportunity to ask and clarify, suddenly, Sun Cheng heard a few low curses coming from the front. Curious, he hurriedly approached Major Dutch and the others, who had already stopped in their tracks. He followed their gaze and looked ahead. Even though he was accustomed to life and death situations, he immediately felt his stomach churn and quickly turned his head away, unable to look any longer.

"Beasts..."

Black Sergeant Mike took off his military cap and threw it on the ground, then kicked the nearby wall with force.

Why, you ask?

Inside a larger office on the first floor of the research center, a pile of corpses had turned the place into a hellish scene. Three bodies were nailed to the wall, two were lying in a corner, and about ten more were clearly dragged from various places, stacked in the office after the furniture was pushed aside.

All of these corpses shared a common trait—decapitated heads and even their skin peeled off, the methods used were extremely brutal!
