The Different Versions

  • Chord Progressions and Strum Patterns - 1:01
  • Melody - 7:07
  • Chord Melody - 16:41

Today we are going to learn one of the most classic pieces from one of the most legendary instrumental musicians, Herb Albert & the Tijuana Brass with his classic hit Spanish Flea. Even if you don't "know" this song, you know the song, or at least you are familiar with the melody. Interestingly the song was written by the percussionist of the band, Julius Wechter, and it was recorded in 1965 and went all the way to number 27 on the billboard chart, and it went all the way to number 9 in Argentina, Argentines have always had a good taste in music.

For this Ukulele tutorial we are going to do two different versions, we are going to do a duet version that you can do while one person strums and the other person plays the melody, so you can jam it out as a duet and you can strum it and play the melody, then the second version is a chord melody version where you play both the chords and the melody together and it sounds great as a solo ukulele arrangement.

Will Improve

  • Playing fast
  • Horn arrangements for ukulele
  • Playing in Bb
  • Use of Borrowed chords
  • Advanced melodic phrasing

So cool. When I was a young child my mom routinely had the albums Beat of the Brass and the Brass are Coming on the turntable. Great memories brought up w this post. 👍
