Sorry for this being so late in the day, I am still fighting this stomach virus I got in the coast. I was super disciplined with the water, but got sick with the food in the airport. Anyways, feeling slow and down.. but not out!

The song is fairly straight forward, it has a legendary intro riff that we will break down and then after that it has an 8 measure verse, 4 measure pre-chorus and followed by an 8 measure chorus and then back to the intro riff. We will break down each piece, measure by measure with 4 of them on the screen at a time and after we break down each note, strum, everything piece by piece so you'll be able to play this song in no time.

It is important to note that we are learning how to play the song in the key of Gm, the song has been performed in many different keys, Gladys even played it in a major key, but we are playing it in G minor as I think this key does the best to grab the energy of the song on the ukulele.

  • Moving the G minor chord around the fretboard
  • Pre-pull off
  • Implying harmony
  • Unique C7 shape
  • Double stop riff

Heard it Through the Grapevine - Chord Melody Ukulele Tutorial

New Ukulele Tutorials every Wednesday and Saturday, susbscribe and learn! I recently taught this song on the guitar and I forgot just how much I enjoyed it until I picked it up and played through it, the melody is wonderful. So right after I finished the guitar tutorials I started working the melody out and by the end of afternoon I already had a very cool instrumental version going. Today we are going to learn how to play "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" on the Ukulele, but not just in any style, the chord melody style! That means you'll be playing the chords and the melody, at the same time! This is also referred to as fingerstyle, or sometimes solo ukulele.
