Blues Challenge is back in September! What should we do? Another key? Something like the Crossroads Challenge? A particular player or style? Let us know if you have any suggestions in the comment section.

Today we are going to learn how to play a flashy and fun fingerstyle blues in the key of E. I wanted to try incorporate some of my favorite blues playing on the guitar into the ukulele but I am also trying to incorporate some of my own original ideas to make it sound fun, funky and, well, original. I have some really cool chromatic chord changes and I am using a town of chord shapes to make this happen. Leaving the blues scale and also using the major scale, mixolydian scales and some other arpeggio and cool ideas. This one is a ton of fun to play but it'll take a little work, once you get it down you'll have a really fun 12 bar that you can play as a solo in the key of E, you an sing over it, you can modify it, you can take some of these ideas and put them in other keys.

Will Improve

  • Multiple chord shapes around the fretboard
  • Using the Mixolydian with the changes
  • Passing chords
  • Double Stops
  • Octaves
  • Triplets
