For today's lesson we are going to break down the coolest scale that you have never played... the Phrygian Dominant! I know, the name is terrifying, you can also think about it as the Arabian scale, the Flamenco Scale, the Gypsy Jazz scale and for all my theory nerds, the 5th mode of the harmonic minor scale. The scale has a very unique sound and the second you hear it you will have feelings of the Arabia, the desert, Aladdian times, but you will also hear it in Flamenco and Rumba music, both have a massive influence from northern Africa as well as Turkish and Balkan ideas, even influence in areas like Yugoslavia and the Slavic nations. In this lesson I will show you how to play it, show the intervals that are used so you can play it in any key, the chords associated with it, the most common chord progression used, how to improvise with it and even how to practice with it, so buckle up, it is time to travel across the world!

I'm one of the outliers. If Harmonic Minor was good enough for Randy Rhoads, it is good enough for me. So I have been playing it and its near relative the mixolydian b6 for years. And I will not lie; it is my favorite.

What a cool scale. I would love to see a flamenco theme tutorial some day
