Today we are going to learn how to play Ooh La La by The Faces. I think this is a song that most people don't know the name of, but can sing along to it when it comes on the radio, at least the chorus. I was sitting in an old pub in London last year when it came on and I just knew in that moment that I had to go back to Colombia and teach it, the only problem is that it took my a long time to figure out that really cool melodic riff in the lesson, but I got it and we are breaking it down today! This one is a ton of fun and really easy to play for any skill level. When I travel around and do Ukulele festivals I love having a handful of two chord songs that I can jump to so that everybody there can play-along with us. It also makes a great foundation for me to solo over as well. The riff is based primarily on chord tones with a couple color tones used for passing like the B, the 6th interval, over the D and the F#, the 9, played over the E minor, when played in time it sounds great and makes for a great intro and interlude as well.

If you are not familiar with The Faces don't worry, neither was I! Also, I just found out today that they aren't "The Faces" but rather just "Faces" which kind of makes it hard to talk about bands that don't use the article "the" hahaha. There are some members in the band that you might know, Ronnie Wood, the guitarist for the Rolling Stones played in the band and the singer was Rod Stewart!

Will Improve

  • Adding emphasis to strums to modify grooves
  • Two chord song
  • Syncopated riff
  • Mixing up the strum pattern to modify the groove
