For today's Ukulele Tutorial we are doing another Melody lesson where we focus on how to play the melody to a song on the ukulele over a backing track. The song we are working on today is old English Hymn, published in 1779 and turned into an immensely popular song in the U.S.A. both in churches and for secular purposes, Amazing Grace. The song is in 3/4 time and isn't too tricky, you should be able to pick it up fairly quickly and play along with the backing track relatively easily. It is in 3/4 timing which might feel a little strange counting at first as you don't count the 4 just to 3, "1 2 3" for example. Most of the melody happens on the 1st and 3rd beat with a couple of slurs taking place on the 3rd beat that you'll need to play 8th notes over.

Will improve

  • Playing Melody in G Major
  • 3/4 Timing
  • Melodic Slurs
  • Hammer On
  • Pull Off
  • Sense of timing

Thank you for putting this up.

Seems like all of the final notes in each phrase land on chord tones. 1,3,5
