Today we are going to learn how to play "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen on the Ukulele, but we are going to be rocking it out in the chord melody style! This is a great song to get introduced to the this style of play, and while it wouldn't be a beginner ukulele song, it could be considered a beginner chord melody song. There is only one barre chord, the E7, which is the same shape as the B7 just further up the neck, one of the easier barre chords to play at an easier spot on the fretboard pressure wise, and there is a G chord shape that is just like the Eb that might be new, but once you get it it it isn't hard to play. I am playing this on a soprano as well to show you that you can play this chord melody arrangement on any size ukulele, you don't need a big tenor to do so.
This is the only song that I can think of that actually sings out about the music theory in the composition while it is playing that part of the composition, and I love it! The 6/8 time might be a little tricky if you are new to it but with a little bit of practice you'll get it down every quickly. The vocal timing repeats throughout the song as well, making it easier to get it down. Enjoy!
