Today's lesson is "All Star" by Smash Mouth. We are going to be teaching you a basic easy strummer version great for beginner ukulele players, campfires, playing at the beach and Ukulele clubs. This song was really popular and you'd be surprised how many people will be able to sing through the at least the first verse. Too match the recording you need to tune the Ukulele down a half step but we kept it in standard tuning for the lesson just so you can learn how to play easily. The chorus is the same in both versions, and it has a C#m7b5 chord! Who would have seen that coming in a pop song! It is pretty amazing really to be honest, when I saw the sheet music I didn't believe it, so I played it and listened to it and I was blown away that that was it! Very uncommon in popular music to see such a dissonant chord, especially not used as a passing chord but for a full measure, and in the chorus!!!

After that I teach you the full version that focuses the rhythm on the hammond organ style with the guitar riff that is really just playing what the bass is playing. Once you have mastered the organ rhythm and the guitar riff we will put a drum truck out and we will put them together so you can see how all these pieces come together. Making it a classic song for 2, or even three Ukuleles if someone wants to strum the pattern from the easy version and two other people can play the organ and lead guitar rhythms on top.
