Today we are going to learn how to play "Count On Me" by Bruno Mars in the chord melody fingerstyle. That is where we play both the chords and the melody at the same time, a popular and fun style of music to play on the Ukulele. Because the original key of C would've required us to play on the 15th fret of the ukulele on the A string, a note that is essentially not audible and doesn't even exist on many Ukuleles, we transposed the lesson down to the key of G.

One of the cool parts about learning this style of music is exploring the the cool new chords and chord shapes that we get to to learn, so we will start there.   Next we will learn the verse.

The verse (3:27) has a fun progression that follows a I-iii-ii-V-IV pattern with the ii and the V lasting 2 beats a piece. A fun chord progression that is both uplifting and has lots of movement. We will walk you through a version that has less strums and is primarily in quarter notes and then after I will show you a performance version that I do that adds some extra strums. I strongly recommend learning the easier version first and after putting in the extra strums.

The verse is followed by a pre-chorus (14:39) that rises through the chords starting on the ii, moving to the iii, IV and then V.

Next the chorus (18:07) that has a very fun run over the IV chord that moves through the IVmaj7 and circles around and the goes all the way up the neck for the falsetto part that Bruno is singing.

Lastly we will break down the bridge (28:04) which has some very interesting movement over the minor chords in the key.
