I only have one thing to say. I love Simon Pegg's talent!

Prior to this series winning in the polls, this was the only entry in the series that I had seen start-to-finish. The reason for this is I was flipping channels about fourteen-fifteen years ago looking for something to watch, caught the opening scene which got its hooks in me, and got me to sit down and watch the whole thing. I’m told this is one of the more celebrated entries of the series. My brother says it’s one he quite liked, and he also says that it’s at this point that the series starts to find its footing. J. J. Abrams did well in his directorial debut in film with this. Certainly, as I see Ryan mentioned, my brother concurs, Owen Davian emerges as probably the BEST villain in the series. I know it’s a bit presumptuous for me to concur with that prior to finishing the series, but I’m inclined to concur. Philip Seymour Hoffman was amazing as Davian. This is on full display in that opening scene, which is so terrific, it had you in stunned silence, which was astonishing to see. Watching this again, it makes me miss Philip, and it hurts to think it will have been ten years come February since his death. I love that you love Philip; that he’s one of your favorite actors. And your reactions to his performance as Davian, and everything you had to say about Philp’s performance as Davian, all of it was magnificent, Jess. Especially your reaction to how unbothered he was, up to and including after he got hung out a goddamn airplane. Or hell, he didn’t look all that concerned when his face was about to be caved in by the truck at the end, your reaction to that being spectacular. When you said you lived for him, and the airplane scene gave you so much life, I was victoriously yelling, “YES!!” a few times. I loved how you said you didn’t feel great for rooting for the bad guy. As someone who does so often, it ain’t exactly a cake walk for me, Jess; it’s not like I do it for my health. Great to see more of Ving Rhames as Luther. I’m with you on loving the team in this one, Maggie Q’s character especially. Lovely to see Simon Pegg. Laurence Fishburne is fantastic. I love his lines, especially the one where he describes Davian as, “He’s a goddamn invisible man. Wells, not Ellison, in case you want to be cute again.” I figured you wouldn’t be too happy with no Thandiwe Newton returning. Disappointed in that though I am as well, I do like Michelle Monaghan in this. She’s done good work in everything I’ve seen her in, here is no exception, and her character stepped up to the plate at the end. I was very impressed, and your reaction to that was lovely. I also loved your reaction to the revelation about Billy Crudup, great to see him too by the way. Watching this again, when I caught Keri Russell’s name in the credits, I thought of you, Jess, and then remembered what happens to Keri in the film. It was a continuous thought, “Oh, right, I forgot Keri Russell was in th...Oh! And Jess loves her! Especially in The Americans, well, th-Oooooooh, SHIT!” Subsequently, seeing you get excited, and expressing love for Keri and her character was getting to me. I said, “Damn it. This is going to hurt a little, isn’t it.” Then she dies, you expressed disappointment about that, I said, “Yup, this hurt.” And of course, we continue to showcase how batshit crazy Tom Cruise is. Though he does kick it up a notch, acting-wise in this one. One complaint I have is that Eddie Marsan, VASTLY underrated character actor that he is, is given little to nothing to do here as, I assume Davian’s right-hand man. Weirder still is his character wasn’t killed. Or I don’t know, maybe he was, and I missed it. But far as I could tell, he doesn’t get a death scene, we don’t see a body, nor do we have a scene of him being arrested or in custody. And to my knowledge, Eddie’s not in any subsequent film in this series. I would love to be wrong about that and see Eddie return in some capacity. Preferably with a more substantial role, as like I said, he is a VASTLY underrated talent. Small sidenote, I share your discomfort with the needles. This is three films in a row with needle related scenes leading me to think this franchise has a needle fetish, and I don’t appreciate it. This was a fun reaction, Jess, thank you.

Keri Russell got her start in JJ Abrams' show Felicity, and he still loves working with her, having also brought her into Rise of Skywalker. Her role here was deliberately designed to be as shocking as possible, as Abrams was well aware people would be expecting him to give Russell a huge role after their past work.
