“Oddly terrifying” is an apt description for this episode. I thought this was a hoot of an episode. I’ve not seen Annie Murphy in anything before. I know stuff she’s in, just haven’t seen any of it. I thought she was great in this episode. Similar to what you said, though I didn’t find any of this boring, I was wondering what direction it was going prior to the twist being revealed. I was invested in Joan’s situation. I nodded in understanding when she mentioned not feeling like the main character in one’s own life, and I said, “It has been a familiar feeling for myself many times, yes.” You mentioned wondering who was playing Joan in the Cate Blanchett variant of the show. I was curious about that myself. Given the deepfake nature of the computers in this episode, I suppose you could use anyone. Even resurrecting actresses past, such as Bette Davis; her in this scenario is a mesmerizing image that’s now stuck in my head. Salma Hayek was a riot in this. The terms and conditions’ part, that was hilarious. I’ve not read, though I skim through those. The thing of devices listening to you leading to the plots in these fictitious shows, once again, makes me glad I don’t have a smartphone. Given the nature of how someone can be perceived, how a narrative can be twisted, I had suspected that you’d gravitate toward that aspect of the episode. I loved everything you had to say about that. This was a solid season opener, and a most enjoyable reaction, Jess, thank you.

I've never seen Black Mirror, yet Charlie Brooker is well known here in the UK for a bunch of stuff. I don't know if he's still involved in this show however, but I really should check it out sometime. I believe its blackly comic and I watch something similar here in the UK with Inside No. 9; so I think this may be right up my alley.

Mark McKeown

He still writes a good portion of the scripts. Yes it's very IN9, love that show too :)

He's still involved, good to see. And it is akin to Inside No. 9 also. Ok I may have to start this soon then! Thanks for letting me know.

Reiterating what Mark said, Charlie Booker is heavily involved in this still. Presently, I’ve only seen the first two episodes of this season of Black Mirror myself. What I’ve seen was excellent. Thus, I’d recommend giving the show a shot if you want to.

Yeah I think I may do that. Have been catching up on a lot of old British war movies this week, so will finish them off first, then look to head into this. I believe Aaron Paul is in one of the episodes too playing a spaceman! Jesse did alright in the end! :P
