Of all the questionable writing decisions in this season, the one that baffles me the most is giving the exact same dramatic weight to Dean's harrowing adventures in Purgatory and Sam's dull romance. Without giving any spoilers, I'll just say that at this point in the show's run, when we truly had no idea what was coming next, a ton of the fans were convinced there had to be some huge, devastating twist coming with Amelia to justify spending all this time on her.
