On initial airing, the show was able to get away with being coy about who Ahsoka was sending them to, because we all assumed that Rex was brainwashed by Order 66 like all the others. Unfortunately, it does require some clunky writing as she only says "Trust him" rather than actually letting Kanan know he'll be dealing with clones, for no reason except keeping the surprise for the audience. Also, going back to this episode it can seem strange how Rex implies that he and the others somehow took out their own chips, and it's likely that Filoni hadn't yet come up with the idea that Ahsoka had done it. Though with that in mind, their reunion at the end becomes even more emotional now that we know the last time they saw each other. And there was one other delightful unintended consequence of bringing Rex back, as some fans quickly noticed that a background extra in the Rebel army in Return of the Jedi bore a striking resemblance to his new look, and wondered if it could now be canon that he was actually part of the battle that took down the Empire for good. Filoni of course couldn't give a concrete answer on that without revealing if Rex would survive that long, something he may not have even known at the time.

I was waiting so anxiously for you to get to this arc. Watching you react to Rex is giving me life!

Hehe Chopper's lack of maintenance on the ship annoying Hera, always fun to see, what a little scamp he is! Rex mentioning The Siege Of Mandalore confused people who first watched this, as there was no season 7 of Clone Wars back then, but it ties in beautifully to the last arc of Clone Wars now. This show ran from late 2014 to 2018 and season 7 of TCW (though it would have been in development) didn't air until 2020, which can be confusing, but fun to work through the timelines of what happens in this show and how much it ties in with Clone Wars. Gregor's tanktop has a logo on it from the same diner he worked at in that droid arc in TCW. When he ask for help and Kanan saying 'no thanks' it shows how the latter is not happy to be in the presence of clones, as Jedi should always look to help people. Ezra is actually the Jedi leading the way between the two in this arc, as Kanan is blocked due to his issues with the clones. Also with Gregor having amnesia, then getting blown up; he has now lost a few marbles, but in a fun way! All the clones in their own way have scars about what happened, with Wolffe being scared of retribution from the Jedi, hence why he made the call to the Empire, and Rex struggling to process the reasons why so many of his brothers died in the first place. The Jupa hunt is directly taken from Jaws, where they try to bring the shark up with barrels. Wolffe was Plo Koon's second in command as he didn't have a padawan. We don't know what happened with him and Order 66. In the movie Plo was shot down and killed by pilots from his squadron, and Wolffe was never a pilot, though I wondered since he was the second in command, whether he took the order to fire, from Sidious personally. He'd feel awful about it all, especially with how caring Plo was to his men. Horrible. Hearing Rex speak about Anakin, shows how much even a legendary soldier such as himself, idolised Anakin. I love him being the one leading them into the dust cloud and Kanan questioning it. Kanan did fight in some campaigns, but it was at the end of the war and he was an inexperienced kid around Ezra's age; but Rex has worked with Jedi throughout the whole war, and knows how to get the best out of the teamwork of both clones and Jedi. Ezra has no idea the honour of wearing Rex's helmet! The music in the background as Ezra uses the force and takes the shot, is directly from A New Hope where Luke switches off his targetting computer on the Death Star trench run. I like that Agent Kallus is a capable and competent imperial officer, who against other foes would win, but against these exceptional individuals, he is kind of the General Grievous of the show! I cry every time Ahsoka and Rex reunite, and I've seen Rebels through dozens of times now. You have followed their stories, their trials and tribulations, and to see them meet again after everything both have went through, is heartwarming. And now both Ahsoka and Rex are in the Rebellion! Its the little things that make Star Wars for me these days, not so much the big epic fights, or spectacle, but the characters themselves, and thats what Clone Wars and Rebels do so well, the longer format story telling fleshes these characters out to make them memorable and beloved (or detested in Vader and Sidious's cases).

“Equally excited and terrified” is about the feeling I have with most new Star Wars material anymore in that I'm excited for the great content, and terrified by the idea of the shows or films being emotionally devastating. First off, I knew you’d notice Sabine’s hair change. I can safely say a lot of us were looking forward to this reaction. Seeing you instantly clock who Ahsoka was referring to, then proceed to not get your hopes up, and then seeing your reaction to Rex saying his name was one of the sweetest things, Jess. I love Rex having the moment of “7567. Now that’s a number I've not heard in a LONG time. LONG time.” Good memory on Gregor, who yes was the clone with the memory loss previously seen in the Beep-Boop-Beep-Boop arc in the Clone Wars. Sad to see the state Wolffe is in. It makes sense as though we don’t know where he was when Order 66 happened, he undoubtedly feels the guilt over our beloved Plo Koon’s death. And though we know Jag was the clone who killed Plo, we still don’t know if Jag was or was not one of Plo’s Bros. If he was, like I said, the guilt would be unbearable. I love how all three of them are enthralled by the AT-AT and clearly want one, leading me to observe, “Men after my own heart.” Yes, Rex is quite the dandelion of joy. I think Rex would appreciate the name. I definitely think Temuera Morrison and Dee Bradley Baker both would love it. Seeing them again comes with the bittersweet feeling of due to their accelerated aging, seeing how old they’ve physically become. Seeing them here, I would judge them to physically be in their seventies now, and nearer eighty than seventy. Concerning the big dramatic reveal, more specifically Ahsoka being vague, I assume she knew that if Kanan knew they would be dealing with clones and would refuse to even take part in the mission, hence the circumspection on Ahsoka’s part. Like you say, it does make sense Kanan’s distrust and discourtesy towards the clones, especially when you hear him speak of what happened to Depa. Even with that understanding, I love how your protectiveness of Rex was threatening the claws coming out. I liked how Hera is understanding, and for his part, Rex expresses understanding as well. It's funny how fans come back to this and accuse Rex of lying when he said he didn’t betray his Jedi. To which I say that his Jedi was Anakin, and Rex never betrayed him. There’s also the fact that on Mandalore, Ahsoka was serving in a military capacity, and explicitly did NOT identify as a Jedi. So, what Rex told Kanan and Ezra was true, from a certain point of view. In retrospect, I jump more on his line, “Didn't you hear? The Emperor said the clone army has outserved its purpose and retired us.” and I say, “Technically, others said that, the Emperor simply twisted the narrative to his advantage, but we’ll get to that later.” Yeah, a bit weird no one else was all that bothered by Zeb being bait. I am laughing at how thanks to his appearance in The Mandalorian, Zeb is now your comfort character. Such as here, your just thinking, “There’s no worry. Zeb doesn’t die in this show, he’ll just get very big boo-boos.” Zeb is my favorite of the Shady Bunch, so this makes me so happy, in all honesty. Your reaction to Rex and Ahsoka reuniting was EVERYTHING, Jess. Now we have the Fifth Brother joining the hunt, here played by Philip Anthony-Rodriguez. You saw him in the Obi-Wan show played by Sung Kang. Like the Grand Inquistor, there were fans who had issues with the casting change. I had no problem with it as I do like Sung, and he had some good moments as the Fifth Brother. I know it’s not altogether a shared sentiment, still, like I said, I was unbothered by the casting change. This reaction was a most lovely reaction, Jess, thank you so much.

Yeah, “scamp” is an apt word for Chopper. It did help as I recall, Filoni did offer a vague outline as to Mandalore, though certainly, it’s better now we have the arc in The Clone Wars. Something I love about Kanan’s troubles with trusting the clones is that by the end of this two-parter, he’s not completely over it, and he freely admits to it. Yeah, the Death Star music is great. Equally as great is Kevin’s Clones theme playing at the end. That reunion doth open a wellspring of tears. Yes, the fleshing out of the characters we love is so great. Of course, in my case, there has NEVER been any detesting of the Emperor or Darth Vader, the overwhelming love for them has been ingrained in me since preschool.

I imagine had Ahsoka told Kanan they were clones, he likely wouldn't have even gone, he might not even want anyone on their team to go meet him. I feel like now is a good time to remind you of The Clones accelerated aging, which doesn't stop, so that in only 10 years since they were created, they aged 20 years to fight in The Clone Wars. That's why Rex already has a white beard, etc. even though it's only been 15 or so years. Also, If you happen think that new Inquisitor looks familiar, you are right, he does.

Yeah I seem to recall Filoni mentioning something about a storyboard for the Siege Of Mandalore, and we saw some of the unfinished stuff too that got redone into the Martez sisters arc with Ahsoka, where it was one guy that was helping her instead of Rafa and Trace. I think Kanan has been burying that part of him these last 15 years or so now and has never dealt with it, hence when he is forced to work with clones here, he is very blocked about helping them and a bit snippy. Jess may go after Kanan these next few eps with him and Rex, and great though Rex is, Kanan is also awesome, and I'll defend him to the hilt! :P
